The green makeup looked so natural I thought they might have tinted her skin in post production to maintain her natural tone variations and lifelike qualities. Body paint like that can look very different from skin if not done well enough.

@samt7341 I don't understand your comment. Can you clarify? My point was that her skin looked very natural despite being green, which means the makeup was done very well and didn't hide the details of her features. That can be done digitally, but they didn't.

Shows the value of hiring singers who can act over actors who can sing for these kind of demanding voice roles. A lesson they did NOT learn on Les Miserables. Everything was sung live in that production too and it was a disaster. Even the great voices of Huge Jackman and Anne Hathaway sounded mediocre and anyone worse than them sounded terrible. Jackman has the bare minimum professional singing experience for that kind of role, having been in a few Broadway musicals for limited runs.

@@Sam_on_KZbin 100% Professional singers have to be casted for musical genre films. Ie. Wizard of Oz had to be done by Judy Garland, regardless of producers back then thought Shirley Temple was a sure win for box office. I said exactly the same thing after watching Wicked... Les Mis was a disaster lol La La Land was quite poor imo since both actors can't sing esp they did so many scenes that reference classics like Singing in the Rain. Every singing scene at Les Mis and La La Land was a melt down of what pros can do.
@Sam_on_YouTube2 ай бұрын
@maniaweng I don't think casting actors who can sing instead of singers who can act works in the right circumstances. But the singing can't be too challenging and you can't mix and match. Joaquin Phoenix sang just fine as Johnny Cash opposite Reese Witherspoon, but from what I heard, singing opposite Lady Gaga in Joker... not so much.

When you say that Ariana improved with no script, that's a generalization, cause it's only some parts. She absolutely had a script, and they would do takes with her sticking to the lines written, then they did separate takes where they let the girls play, improvise, etc. They often used the takes that had improvisation in them because they're incredible actors with great comedic timing.

This "NO CGI" trend must end once and for all: of course they built huge sets and did many many things practical but saying they didnt almost use CGI is an insult to the 300+ VFX artists that worked on the movie.
