Dorothy coming to Oz inside of a giant TV playing the 1939 movie is one of the weirdest ideas I’ve ever heard. I’m not sure I like it. It does look pretty interesting though haha.

@IHARumor2 жыл бұрын
@@ryanstauffer119 yeah same. I don’t hate seeing Dorothy, it connects the musical more closely to the original story, especially for people who aren’t as familiar with the original 1939 movie or book but have a rough idea of what the lead character from The Wizard of Oz looks like.

I wonder if this production had to get permission from MGM / WB to use the ruby slippers. In the original production they got away with it by not mentioning the name (ruby slippers) and by merely shining a red spotlight on the silver shoes during the scene where Elphaba casts the spell to help Nessarose walk
@CaseyBlizzard2 жыл бұрын
I didn't realize they were avoiding ruby slippers. I just assumed they used the silver because that's what they are in the original Baum book. The red spotlight in the spell being a wink to the movie, or almost an origin story for the ruby color.
@pedroxavier60092 жыл бұрын
I actually always thought the red spotlight were only a way to emphasize Nessa's line: "What have you done to my shoes? They feel like they're burning" and they were just sticking to the original book's silver shoes.

I really like the idea of the tv tbh 🥰 but I don’t get why they couldn’t have nessa spin around across the stage as the tornado spun that would have been really cool. And towards the area the television landed so it looked like it fell on top of her.

Glinda’s gown is confusing. The bare legs are odd for what Glinda is trying to appear as at this point. She’s trying to be a respected politician. Is this some commentary I’m missing, or is it just weird. Why not give her a full skirt. Or maybe a skirt that split along a front seam. It’s just a little odd.
@Glindaful2 жыл бұрын
Exactly, also why red!? I love a lot about this new version but the costumes just don't make sense
@IHARumor2 жыл бұрын
A lot of Glinda’s costumes in this version of the show consists of short skirts and booty shorts so the bare legs are part of this Glinda’s style I guess. She just likes showing off her legs lol. They made the gown pink as a reference to both the 1939 movie (Glinda wore a pink gown in that) and the fact that pink is her favourite colour.

What’s wrong with showing some skin? Times change and I think they wanted to show that
@robwilliamson50822 жыл бұрын
@@IHARumor I mean nothing wrong with showing some leg, it just is very different and feels a little more “teenager.” I know Glinda is still relatively young but I also just feel like she’s been put into this position of power, and is trying to be more adult. I think the dress is lovely but I guess my personal style would prefer a subtler center front slit or maybe a dramatic side slit. Instead of the full open front. Or a really dramatic high low.
@robwilliamson50822 жыл бұрын
@@paprikaghoul nothing wrong with showing skin, I think it’s the way the skirt is done. A really dramatic side slit, or a subtler front slit that showed the legs at it moved but closed a little more to look like a full skirt when standing still could have been amazing, and would allow Glinda to show skin, while also presenting herself as the sophisticated public figure she’s trying to be at this point in the story.

0:34 if the actress playing Dorothy is an understudy for Elphaba I’d be satisfied because JeffersonFan99 ships the scarecrow (Fiyero) with Dorothy and compares them to Lumiére and Plumette from Beauty and the Beast, and I ran into a fanfiction with Lumiére and Plumette as Fiyero and Elphaba. But I still like both Fiyero shippings better. Matthew Hedrick, Jr. please reply.

@romansmith84862 жыл бұрын
maybe she sing the part quite good, in fact i've got some goosebumbs at the time (perhaps by the music arrangement idk), but she did NOT PLAY , she did NOT ACT like ppl in distress, unlike other original Elphabas. Where is wavings of the cape in the final of the NGD, whrere is acceptence of the 'wicked being' with witch's cackle in voice? So many people likes new vision of the play, but i don't understand why - new music effects are quite good, but in oppening overture unlimited part is missing for what?; costume design didn't work - in original musical desigs where inspirited by classic movie - they where magicly fairytale-ish and charm, pointy hat had a POINT (OMG), in this case i can see som sexualised Glainda's dress in some-plastic material, very soft hat point and less fairytale-style of vision, more like fashion-something; and the acting skills of the leading character is way to much lower then a high-school productions of Wicked. Wicked is more than just a show about a classic villain character, Wicked have a backstory - Wizard of Oz, and that reason why show must have a responsibility: costumes, setting, places etc. Unexpectically from german guys - the give a Willemijn Verkaik to world of Elphabas! She had a talant a lot, nd not for the germans, also for half of Europe, i don't want to comper 2 voice and acting skills, but it happens by itself, i can't do or undo this feeling (What is this feeling?) Why am i whriting this - because it's important to me watch some quality products, and i really want pay respect to original production, because in the compare with alternate versions i can say - the did a great job back in to 2003, and that's a standrt for all countries, that's how the Wicked must look like
@antheiheiant2 жыл бұрын
Do you speak German? Because she's definitely acting. Maybe that would come across more if you understood the language. Intonation is different in different languages.
@romansmith84862 жыл бұрын
@@antheiheiant if i didn't understand what i hear, i'll not start a comment. I listen every song of the musical in several lenguages, and german was the second. And again - Gutes Tun bei Willemijn ist besser als Gutes Tun bei van den Bosch, Sibina Wickerlng's Gutes Tun better then this, and reason why is obvious - the play a Wicked Witches. Again, Maria Lucia Heiberg play'd better in danish production, Elis Ochmanová play'd awesome in czech version, tbh i didn't like finnish cast, BUT also they was better in acting way (but scenic design and costumes - they s*ck :c ). And information - information in different lenguages can be different, but english-german - they are quite similar, and man who knows english technically can understand german speak, and backwards (like russian and polish), and i can say. that the acting, that performd van den Bosch is less colorful in base, not in lenguagical way

You can stop clutching your pearls. The Broadway production still exists and isn't going anywhere. This was a one-off reimagining after twenty years of the OG production with a lot of interesting new additions. You really ought to give them credit where it's due instead of clinging to nostalgia. Judging this based off the OG simply isn't fair.
@antheiheiant2 жыл бұрын
@@romansmith8486 You can definitely not understand German unless you speak it (+maybe Dutch?). Sure, they're both germanic languages, but that doesn't make them universally understood. Just like we wouldn't understand Swedish, Africaans, Danish, Norwegian or Jiddish. Those are germanic languages too. But feel free to prove me wrong and translate part of those lyrics back to English (without using Google). Or you know.... Show me your PHD in Linguistics, because you're making some really bold statements if you're not well versed in the matter.
