This is the German production, the entire new arrangement, staging, special effects and some new choreography were altogether just phenomenal. The wire was not that visible in reality, and it was thrilling to see Elphaba flew away over the audience. People were like, "Wait, where are you going, we were not expecting this!!"

Seeing this live was so amazing. As a fan of the original show I was a little skeptical in advance if I would like this version or not.... But I really loved it - it really put more magic in the show. Flying out of the scenery over the audience was really amazing. I saw the alternate Elphaba and her high note at the end was better. I watched Wicked several times in London before (which is like the Broadway show) and now that I have seen this special version I do not want to see the original production again because this was really amazing!

Unfortunately never saw this version of Wicked. I love the special effect at the end. I have read before that there was something special about "what's happening in the background what not many would notice" and just now when this show has ended I found out all of it 😂. If you don't want to know it, please don't read on from here). SPOILER! So at the moment Elphaba is about to go upwards, you can see Glinda and the guards securing themselves in the back of the platform. I did not notice this until watching videos last week. Then when she sings: "... erreicht mich oder oder fängt mich ein.…" you can see the platform is tilted. It is a brilliant effect! Wow!

Wires look fantastic, but they make it harder for the singer to get enough power in their singing because they're not standing on solid ground. I always notice that the singing is gentler and a little more fragile in this song in productions like this one or in Brazil compared to the original staging. No fault of the amazing singers of course! That's the reason Broadway chose to do it with a lift.

They lift her up on wires during the hardest part of the song? That's criminal! While it sure is a cool effect, I'm pretty sure the original production used to platform to ensure the performers have the physical support needed to belt those notes out. Now, the notes sound thin and strained and not because she can't sing them. She has a powerful voice and has always had good control of her upper register. You loose so much breath support when singing like this, it puts an immense amount of strain on your voice and throat. I hope this won't give her long term damage, cause it sure isn't healthy for her voice.
@boxcowfish2 жыл бұрын
She isn’t straining at all, she’s using mixed voice on the F and the belt sounds clear and open to me on the rest.
