"Wicked Game" Josefin Taljegård performs her 2024 Short Program

Swedish national champion Josefin Taljegård skates her 2023-2024 Short Program to “Wicked Game”
On a trip to New York last July, Josefin and I recorded her then-new show choreography to “Wicked Game” • ‘Wicked Game’ - Josefi... . Because of that video, Josefin told me, she decided to make the song her short program for the season. Fast forward to March, and I got to watch her compete “Wicked Game” at the 2024 World Figure Skating Championships in Montreal. After the competition, Josefin said she would be visiting NYC again, and I started looking for ice time where we could create an archive of her season’s routines.
We’d only overlap in the city for a day, so the morning after her 9 hour bus ride from Montreal, on very little sleep after her competitor's banquet, we met on the 6am session at Sky Rink in Chelsea Piers.
“If try to do the full routine in one take, I'll probably be sick,” Josefin told me, so we decided to film it in parts, starting with the beginning, two jumps and up to the spin. But after that, Josefin kept going!
“After the spin, I was going into the double axel without much speed, but I went for it anyways. And then, I kept going element by element, just like I do in competition.”
It’s always an honor when skaters are willing to do a full competitive program in one take for the camera. But it’s even more special when it’s unexpected! Thank you for filming your 2024 Short Program with me, Josefin!

the thing is, with the state of figure skating nowadays there are very few performances that move me. this is one of the very few. i'm in tears everytime when i see josefin skating this programme. i wish we weren't deprived of skaters over the age of 25, because when you're older the expression is just so so so much deeper. ❤️
