I for a fact have heavily underestimated peoples interest in a wizard of oz movie. I mean it makes sense the original is a movie I loved as a child (despite the scary monkeys) and it was probably the first colourful movie a lot of kids back in the day watched. So it has a following

Make no mistake when John said he was no longer interested in a Wicked after Cynthia Erivo made her comments, John thought at that point that Wicked would not be a hit and that he wouldn't have to talk about it. When he ate crow, it was cause he then realized how big it would be and knew he'd have to talk about it on his show every week. Tbh the nerd voice he does for his loser fans is actually just him doing his own voice.

The "controversies" were so laughably and transparently blown out of proportion that they fizzled out as close as a month away from the premiere. Theater fans with their dramatic selves certainly didn't care.

so wicked is the most popular Broadway show of all time... the second is Les Misérables, (the first in some categories) which made 442 million in theaters.... i can understand wicked has more appeal than Les Mis cause of Wizard of Oz, but more than half a billion....

Are you kidding? There have been touring companies in the US for years, there is a standing production in the UK, there was a non-replica production in Brazil in the last year or so. Not sure where elese, but likely has been in Australia, and possibly other places. People definitely know Wicked internationally.

Yea I absolutely loved it I was very split on the play I did not really get into it till part 2 the second act when they show everyone transforming into and becoming there wizard of oz characters and Dorothy comes in with Toto yea this a billion times better then the play and brought in a lot from the book it works way better as a big massive blockbuster movie like this it’s a 10/10 it works for everyone there is nothing in here that is for just one small group if you know absolutely nothing about the story at all there is plenty there and when part 2 comes out next year it’s heavily focused on the story everyone knows
