Just picked up those same VPAs, got em in 250gr with 1¼" cutting diameter. Ive taken 2 does with my recurve in the last 6 days since the broadheads showed up on my doorstep. Both full pass throughs with about 10" buried into the dirt afterwards. Tons of blood, fly great, easy to sharpen, and tough as nails. Couldnt be more impressed by these heads. Recurve im shooting is 70# @ 28"

Food grade mineral oil helps prevent rust also.

Thanks for the video! I’m going to use VPA 3 blades this year. Just followed your instructions and I’m shaving hair off my arms! Thanks again!

Just bought 300 grain vpas ,was using 300 grain tuffhead single bevel, had really good success with them but want to try these out seems like they will tune better.

Nice job! Use unscented chapstick for the preservative.

I really like the VPA. But I use the Valkyrie Jags & they have a little different design. The sharpening system is a little different with 2 wheels but the results r awesome. The difference is that the Viking Centerpin system just keeps the whole system passing through & into the ground with a great wound channel & no failure which is common right behind the insert/outsert. Even with perfect flight & a heavier arrow with more momentum there still r scenarios where u have a sharp head but the arrow fails right behind the head. Vibration free glue on the outsert is all that is needed.

Great broadhead! Easy to sharpen! I use a similar method, with variables. Good vid🏹

You’ve got a fantastic method as well and I know you put those babies to good use 👌🏽

If u know of Jeff Phillips he has a video where he shoots a fieldpoint, a single bevel & that 3 blade VPA. All 3 shots exit through the thin but dense target close to each other. But that 3 blade VPA has exited substantially more. I have arrows too stiff & heavy for a recurve. But with a compound I have on video where I shot a branch halfway between myself in a 🌳 & a 3D target. I hit the 10 ring & right after the arrow hit the target the branch fell to the ground. About 100 times better than a Robinhood. No arrows were damaged in the process. 👍

Best sharpening video I have seen! Do you have one on a single bevel broadhead?
@SeasonsChange242 жыл бұрын
Thanks brother! Glad it was helpful. I currently do not. Overseas right now but I plan to make one when I get back. I’m the meantime check out Clay Hayes. He has some good single bevel sharpening videos.

On the mill file. Is that fine, medium or coarse?
@SeasonsChange242 жыл бұрын
I’ve got the coarse file but I’m sure medium would work as well. You’d need a little more pressure initially but you’d get a finer grind pattern on the steel potentially making it sharper overall and reducing your strokes required on the strop. Hope this helps 👌🏽

Is this the carbon tool steel head?
@SeasonsChange242 жыл бұрын
It’s the 200gr non vented 1 1/8” cut high carbon steel. 50 Rockwell hardness. VPA doesn’t list it as a tool steel.
In my opinion stropping a 50 Rockwell edge is unnecessary. I prefer the toothier edge of a medium diamond stone. If it was a high 50s Rockwell or maybe 60 then stropping might be beneficial.
@SeasonsChange24 Жыл бұрын
Seems like you know a lot about metal. I don’t. I do know that stropping seems to give it that extra edge (pun intended) from before and after testing. Thanks for commenting!

Not a clue what I'm doing wrong. I follow your instructions and they still can't slice through paper. Frustrating to say the least!
@SeasonsChange24 Жыл бұрын
A lot of it is in that initial grind on the file. You’ve got to use a moderate amount of pressure to do actual work to the metal. Sharpening is finicky and took me years to be good at. I wish I could help you more. Can you see the grind pattern change after filing?
@danielloomis1654 Жыл бұрын
If your file is not cutting that will make it frustrating ya never will get it sharpened.
