I think your new skull is better!!! I dig the sketch and would love to see a grim, dirty and “dark” version! Okay...now to check out the video production!!! Hahaha! :) Go Trevor!!!

Thanks Brandon! I did paint the version of the skull shown in this video and it wound up being more on the darker side. I'll share the end product in the next video. At the end of the day, I wasn't happy with it though. I made some changes to the sketch and painted another version that I like a lot better.

Great video and very informative. I lighten the Saral lines by going over them with the kneaded eraser and sometimes a light wipe with wax and grease remover will lighten the lines. As an alternative to Saral, I bought a graphite stick and rub it on the back of the drawing and wipe off the excess with a paper towel. I continue to wipe off the excess graphite until it transfers light enough to see it, but easy to cover with the paint. This method provides a bit more control of the line darkness than Saral. Thanks for your videos.

I've found it's best to cut the sheets down into smaller pieces and transfer the image by sections. More room for your hands to work and not cause smudges.

Time to give that eraser the good old-fashioned blue-jean clean. Heh! I know it wears them down, but gets them squeaky-clean "new" looking and most importantly clean. Eh?!? Not the gum one, but they typewriter one... Man! I found the BEST erasers at a local art supply store. Do NOT have their name(s) but are literally triangular in shape, white and/or gray, they fit neatly in the palm of the hand (so they are relatively "big") and it's easy to hit those tough corner areas... Oh!!! And black!!! If you can find those danged "BLACK" colored erasers... TOPS!!! They look like the old, old grade-school erasers, that are a long, rectangle in shape and "chiseled" on the ends. But instead of gray they are a DARK-black colored eraser. But I haven't seen those around in YEARS! Use to go to the local Art School and buy them, in their store. They've closed about five years ago (Art School) and haven't seen them since. But they worked freaking GREAT!! Just a few more "tips for the pros" out there. :) | Looks awesome and can't wait to see the finished project! : ) -EB

Hey EB! Yeah, with the world moving ever closer to completely digital it's getting harder and harder to find really good erasers for art purposes. I prefer to purchase erasers from a local art supply store too because there are increasingly more and more counterfeit products available on the web. Unfortunately, even the local art supply store doesn't carry that may options anymore.

I think you're thinking of carbon paper my friend. Both products have been around for a very long time. Carbon paper is similar to Saral Transfer Paper, but it's not exactly the same. Saral Transfer Paper was developed for artists and crafts. It's safe to use on a number of surfaces, even fabrics. Saral is also easy to erase. Carbon paper is not easy to erase in my experience.

a pity you needed to change your design, but it made a great how-to vid :) nice tip on how to lock down the graphite and reduce the lines. as Dennis Scott allready suggested, I usually use a bit of painter's tape to remove the excess graphite when using Saral paper.

Hey Trevor!!!! Sorry to hear about the copyright thing!!! Ughhhh. With all the technology that is easily available, such as 3D printers, plotters, and printers, etc, what are your thoughts on airbrushing becoming a lost art? Spray on and rock on!!! Tony.
@wickedartstudio
@wickedartstudio 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Tony! The airbrush has already become a bit of a lost art from my perspective in the automotive industry. Vinyl has won a lot of business in that arena. I don't think airbrushing will ever become a lost art in the fine art realm though.

I've been relatively pleased with the quality of the samples I've ordered. It's definitely better to order large quantities of merch from a local print shop as far as controlling quality is concerned, but that requires me to sit on inventory and fulfil orders/shipping products myself. I just don't have the time or the resources necessary to do that at this point. Print on demand is the best solution I've found so far.

It’s real funny how broad the copy right terms go just because you have long drippy teeth on a skull it can be called infringement many and I mean many years ago in high school I did a character I was told if and when Disney finds out I will be sued I live in Canada back then a small city less than half million people how are they going to find out nope it’s infringement so I get where you’re coming from on the what how why and just go with the change to your original skull design
@wickedartstudio
@wickedartstudio 3 жыл бұрын
It didn't become an issue until I monetized the design through the Teespring store and began to make a little bit of revenue from it. As I said in the video, Teespring chose to take down the design based on their own policy. I can't really blame them for wanting to prevent their own company from getting dragged into a lawsuit if Marvel or Disney ever elected to pursue a trademark claim against me. I think my interpretation falls under "fair use", but that would ultimately have to be decided by a judge, not me or the trademark owner. In your example, it is highly unlikely that Disney, or any other large company for that matter, would come after you for a one off drawing. It becomes an issue when you try to sell the product. It all comes down to money in the end. If the intellectual owner believes you're essentially stealing money out of their pocket by selling something very similar, the odds you will be challenged go up substantially. And due to the fact the world is now connected more than ever through the internet and social media, it's relatively easy for the intellectual owner, or their attorneys, to find those "questionable" products.
