Thanks for posting this video!!! I am going to try your techniques later today. I got a few questions for you; 1. I am painting dirt bike helmets and metal mailboxes, what primer do you recommend? I prefer water based. 2.How important is a ‘base coat’, and what do you recommend? Once again I prefer water based, but not mandatory. 3. I think that the helmets and mailboxes need an auto grade clear top coat. What do you recommend? Yup, I prefer water based, but not mandatory. 4. I want to spray metal flake, what would you recommend for a nozzle tip size for metal flake and top coat? I saw the video for the paint stirrers and the lazy Susan….. brilliant!!!! Thank you; Tony

Base coat and prep (sanding) is very important. If you don't have a spray gun setup you can get away with rattle can primer and a good brand paint, I usually go to my local auto parts store. You have to use exterior grade or automotive grade paints. Water based paints just don't have the UV protectants and durability. The only water based paints I would use is the airbrush paint, in my case Createx Wicked. Now, you could use Createx Autoborne sealer for the primer which is water based but you will need a spray gun to spray it. As far as the metal flake, It really should be sprayed with an automotive gun with at least a 1.2 needle. Now depending on the size of the flake I have already been successful with my .8 Paasche mini gun. And lastly, YES a 2k clear is a must. I have videos on 2k clear in a can (Spray Max) I love the stuff for small jobs. Spraying Auto clear through a spray gun with or without the correct set up is difficult (orange peel). I hope this helps and thanks for the feedback on the products and thanks for watching.

@@TheAirbrushGarage Thanks for getting back to me and good answers. I am using Wicked Air and Sealer Silver, only Createx products. I have a .5 and a .23 mm airbrushes. And a 1.0 mm touch up gun. The big picture is down the road I want to airbrush flames on my dirt bike hauling pickup, along with a total vehicle paint job. So I am kinda leery about several cans of 2K to top coat my truck. So I might as well buy a cheap spray gun and use the 2 part clear coat, since I am gonna be painting the entire truck. I kinda figured that the 2 part top coat was the way to go, I was hoping there was a product that I was not aware of. Your technique for cutting masks and tape has been very helpful. I think with a bit of practice I will be ‘scar free’. Thanks again; Tony.

Tony, absolutely. I only use the 2k in a can for the smaller projects like a helmet or a guitar. When it comes to the bigger stuff, I go with an automotive setup. Good luck, and if you have any questions along the way, just give me a shout.

will this film work with irregular contoured surfaces?

Hi Tony. It does not do well on contours if you are looking for a wrinkle free surface. Thanks for the question, and thanks for watching.

Good morning brother I’m curious I did buy some Frisket 24 by 150 feet hope I didn’t waste my money. Is contact paper better then Frisket. They say Frisket has too much glue I have seen videos where you can cut the Frisket then dap it on some clothes, sheet that goes on a bed to get rid of the excess glue on the Frisket. I truly thank you for your advice brother Dan Eager to learn.!!!🎣🎣🎣

I think the addheasion on contact paper would be to strong. Frisket is made to be a paint mask. As you know by now I like transfer tape. If you like the transparency of the frisket the do make a transparent transfer paper.

When painting goalie masks no matter how hard I try, using fresh blades//very light pressure...I always run into some delamination...not AS much if its directly on autoborne sealer...more so if ive coated some other colors (wicked jet black for example) and then have to re-mask and cut, thats when it gets scary (and thats letting the paint dry overnight too). I do find it much easier using Crepe tape to mask/cut as it doesnt seem to have as much of that 'glue' material then the paper pre mask, but much harder to draw on. I really wonder if Im missing something when I see some of these mask artists masking the entire mask and cutting their entire designs without any delamination.

dallasstarskillerfan, are you scuffing the surface (taking the shine off) before you paint? also make sure you pull the masking back on it's self.
@dallasstarskillerfan2 жыл бұрын
@@TheAirbrushGarage Yes to both things. Ive been through a mess of different things to try and determine a sure-fire way to avoid any de-lamination or peeling and still theres always some sort of problem I run into. Ive got very good at fixing mistakes but ideally not running into any would be the best thing. A lot of it happens not from the primer but coats on top (I even scuff the sealer).

Are you using high tac tape? If so, try using medium to light tac. High tac is used for transferring vinyl.

Another idea is to use transparent sheet like vinyl and on top your favorite masking material

Probably helpful to stick with using the same kind of tape all the time too. No pun intended

EA, the masking is over an aluminum panel. The mat is just on the table I am working on. Thanks for the comment.
