The Little Mermaid Characters: Good to Evil (+Sequels)
The Little Mermaid is one of Disney’s most iconic and successful films to date. Released in 1991, it booted Disney out of its Dark Age and into the studio’s Renaissance Era. Afterall, we all remember the wonderful song “Under The Sea”.
But… one of the things that lurks under the sea is evil… as well as good. Today we’re going to dive into this underwater world full of merpeople and magical creatures and find out who they really are. Which of Atlantica’s creatures are good? Which are bad? And who is the most evil?

Fun fact: Ursula and Morgana have the same voice actor, Pat Carroll. Morgana may not be as interesting or well-liked as her sister, but she is no less effective at manipulating her protagonist. Also, no one can say that Ursula left Ariel for dead while she executed her takeover; Morgana did that to Melody by sealing her in an underwater cavern with little time left as a mermaid. That's MORE RUTHLESS in my opinion.

Ariel is good-hearted and likable, but I wouldn't call her selfless. She's unaware of how her actions affect others and unappreciative of everything Sebastian goes through for her. Being willing to make sacrifices for love is admirable, but she still abandoned her father and sisters without a thought of how worried they'd be when they didn't know where she went. When Sebastian was venting about the trauma he suffered in the royal kitchen, she just goes to bed and falls asleep, completely ignoring him. She has lots of good qualities, but selflessness isn't one of them.

Sebastian is such a likable character. He may not have approved of Ariel’s dreams at first, but he still attempted to change himself for the better by making it up to her for accidentally ratting her out. He’s such a sweet character and feels torn between the King and her. Sebastian had 2 options to tell her father about swimming off to Ursula and when first getting her legs, but he didn’t. He made a choice.

King Triton isn’t a villain. He was just trying to protect his daughter, Ariel and keep her safe. Ariel is a spoiled, selfish brat because she only likes the guy’s looks and abandoned her family. She is also reckless and careless because she was exploring dangerous places and put her family in danger. She was also disobedient to her father because she never listened to her father and was not following his rules. She really should have listened to her father more. King Triton is a good-hearted and wise sea king even grumpy and short-tempered but he was trying to keep Ariel safe that’s all. King Triton is a hero. He’s a good guy. He wanted to protect his family. He is a responsible father. He just wanted was best for his daughter.

I think Ariel should have been above Melody. Sure, they're both good people, but while both did deals with sea witches that eventually put the ocean at risk, Ariel's tipping point was much more emotional than Melody's. Ariel had all her belongings destroyed, which was pretty shitty from Triton; and you can tell Ariel doubted whether it was a good idea to sign before she accepts. Also, Ariel didn't have the chance to hear her dad apologise or try to approach her before she agreed with Ursula. Melody did however. She escaped home after a simple, much less dramatic argument. She accepts stealing Triton's trident (Ariel never committed theft) and rejected listening to her mum when she appeared seconds before she surrendered the trident to Morgana. To me, Ariel's action seemed understandable or relatable, even if a bit rash, whereas Melody's where just plain stupid. Although you could argue that Ariel ought to have learnt to listen to her daughter and not make the same mistakes that Triton did.

I haven’t watched the sequels or any of that, but I do remember the original movie, so for the characters I do know, here’s where I’d put them morality wise: Flounder - Neutral Exalted Max - Rebel Exalted Sebastian - Lawful Good Prince Eric - Lawful Exalted Ariel - Social Moral The Princesses - Lawful Moral Scuttle - Neutral Moral King Triton - Absolute Impure I forget his name, but he was placed right after Triton - Social Neutral The cook - Neutral Impure Glut - Anarchic Neutral (honestly, he’s not necessarily evil, just that he’s a shark and sharks are brutal predators by nature) Flotsam and Jetsam - Social Evil Ursula - Neutral Vile

oooh19 This is the D&D moral alignment chart, except it’s expanded into 7x7 rather than the standard 3x3. For law and chaos, it goes from Absolute to Anarchic while the moral axis goes from Exalted to Vile. Just look up the 7x7 moral alignment chart and you’ll see what I’m talking about. 😊

Sure, she has some faults, but I don't think it knock her down to 7). Melody is worse because she is naive, impulsive (more so than Ariel herself), and let's be honest, she almost doomed both kingdoms, though she did make up for it, she still did it. Another thing why Ariel is more good, is that she's willing to help those who don't deserve her help, like those "cool" mermen in the episode "Eel-lectric City", or the evil Mantaray's son. Hell, she even managed to get everyone (at least in her kingdom) to put aside their differences and live together in harmony, hence the song. There's so much potential Ariel has as a character. So to put her at number 7 feels harsh considering how much she's done.

I agree with their first choices sans our fav crimson calypso crab but check some of the other comments AND the future ones to yet undisclosed topics. I went to this cause it was recommended and "curious" to see where Ariel ranked. NOT surprisingly number 1 I figured they would put her at a WORSE place say # 13 In short Ariel is flawed BUT DESEREVES A LOT more praise then she gets In short Disney's answer to Gidget hence WHY I think Sally Field should have played her mother TRIED to get a job at Disney...…………………………………..How do you think THAT went????????????????
