I had moister in the deck of my 88 C30 in the same spot in front of the traveler except on the starboard side. It was caused by leaks under the traveler track. I actually had over a gallon of water come out of the through bolt when I removed it. I was able to dry the deck by applying an HVAC vacuum pump to the deck and pulling a 30" vacuum on the deck to "boil" the moisture out. I would suggest pulling the traveler track and rebedding it to prevent more water from getting into it.
@billhayward15856 жыл бұрын
my guess about the moisture in the cabin top over the galley is, over time the steam from cooking was absorbed because of the different temperatures inside and out of the boat.Nice boat have fun.

I just gave my tall 30' away it was a 1986 ,I brought new , my age and wife don't sailing anymore we like the big ships now, enjoy your boat as I did. Roy

That is a Universal M25-XP with an Oberdorfer 202M-15 raw water pump (the good one). The M25-XP is a marinized Kubota D-950 diesel so you can buy most parts from a tractor supply at 1/3 the cost of marine parts. Make SURE that the trailer-plug connectors for the engine gauges have been replaced with terminal strips, and if there is an ammeter, replace it with a voltmeter. Change the oil every 100 hours, the coolant every 3 years, the raw water pump every 5 years, and it will run forever.

Nice purchase! I sailed a Cat30 for about 13 years. My kids basically grew up on the boat. Great boat. I sailed her through some of the worst conditions and she took good care of us. Enjoy!!

That bobstay is hell-for-stout, a wooden dock plank stood no chance. Cograts to the Salty Crew! Lola really deserves 1/3 credit in all production!

Yahoo! Glad to see you as boatowners again :) Remember, never dock faster than you want to crash. And often the best way is to get a spring line on from an amidships cleat running aft. This way even if the boat is locked in forward you can control it's forward momentum some. All the time people try to get the bow line on when it does very little other than hold the bow close to the dock.

Congratulations on being official for-real owners again. There can be no doubt that it has been a trial, but you have come through it. Take the lessons you learned and leave the stress and pain behind you. Ignore the haters, either they have no experience, or they forgot how they got it. You have new insights into your own strengths and those to be found in each other. May you now be blessed with fair winds, following seas and new adventures.

To be fair as far as the insurance goes leaving a sea cock open when no one is on the boat is negligent. I am surprised that you didn't have issues getting them to pay out on that claim. That being said congrats on the new boat.

Congratulations! Catalina's are great boats. My first sailboat was a Catalina 27. I currently have a Catalina 36 and absolutely love it. I've heard people who have never sailed or owned one say they are lightly built productions boats, but in fact all of the gear is name brand; Lewmar, Garhauer, etc. And the winches, turnbuckles, wire etc are larger than the same size Beneteau or Hunter. They are also roomy and comfortable. Good job, and good luck.

We have two Catalina 30's in our fleet. We have found them to be extremely reliable. The diesel is a workhorse and can take abuse. We have had members forget to open the seawater intake with no long lasting adverse effects. We have other members in the club that can tell you anything you want to know about that boat. If you have any questions, I can see if I can find out. I've had these boats out many times in rough weather - they are solid.

OK, its official.......I fancy Kate :-) Dammit I think Im too old !!! I used to own a Catalina 30. I loved the layout but the shoal draft did not go to weather particularly well. I think you two will do just fine with it. Such a great boat. If you want to make some sailing upgrades- number 1 would be adjustable jib sheet cars. Garhauer marine will have them for a very reasonable price. Good Luck Wes and Kate

I have been living on and sailing a Cat 30 for 5 years now.. I know what everyone says about these boats.. But im so very happy with my Catalina and would never go another direction.. That being said im one of those people that if im leaving the boat for any amount of time all thru holes get closed.. they are a boat main weakness i have seen so many boats sink because they left thru holes open
@SailingInconceivable6 жыл бұрын
Gratz guys! Looks like a clean boat. The 30 is laid out nice. A lot of boat for (hopefully) not much $. Those damp core spots are failed bedding related. And, if one fails, they are all about to. Start rebedding everything, and keep a maintenance log.

As a Catalina 30 owner myself, super happy to see you two cruise on one. I have beaten the crap out of mine racing . BUT I ďo do a lot of maintenance. I sail in Lake Huron and the boat has taken 10 foot waves on occasion . But the ocean..... I think I would beef up the standing and running rigging and maybe even the bulk heads. I ve often wondered if it would be big enough for 2 adults to cruise on Now hopefully I get to see. Congrats
