My cornsnake is definitely squirmy to handle and never stops moving, however he's tame as can be and has never struck or shown any defensive behaviour. Which is surprising given he's a wild rescue (he stowed away on a shipment of plants up to Canada so I ended up taking him in when he was found).
@gah1000k3 жыл бұрын
Ya, my cornsnake can be squirmy. Easy to handle and never have struck at me. I find them similar to Kings but dont have to worry about accidental bites. Also, very inquisitive. Surprised corns were below Kings and hognose. My hognose can be defensive and have had a bite.

I really enjoyed this ranking video. I think it's the most "practical" ranking list I've seen. You simply explain why you they ranked them against each other the way you did and in a way that people can really understand and use ("He bites. He just sits. She's cranky. They're easy to care for..."). Most lists are either too generic or mash too much together to result in a useless final score. (ie - cost or availability is interesting, but in the end, does not really matter all that much and artificially affects their over all score or rank to something that doesn't in the end tell me the basics). In the end, we want to know: do you enjoy the animal and why or why not? (And in THAT light, care, friendliness, activity level, etc. means something. ) This list did it perfectly!

I love my ball python, so far self managed, since we got him he struck at me a few times before shedding, but right after now fully social to the point of coming out of tub to your hand. I haven't yet had to deal with feeding issues as he eats 2 times a week. BUT I bought a baby corn snake who a week later in trying to handle it bit me and squirmed out of my fingers and is now roaming my Basement. Too tiny to find as of yet. I give this snake a F on cost, and handling. Paid 90 for corn snake, and 70 for ball python.

Oh no! I hope you find it/it's ok. I bought a baby corn and I heard they're really flighty especially while young and they need a lot of handling training. I guess they're hit or miss. Mine's a little over a year old now and doing great and hasn't struck at me.
@arpadungvari71603 жыл бұрын
I put the cornsnake on the A, maybe S too (mine is a super chill one, never bite while he was on shading state neither) and dartfrogs... I put them on the B or C rank for the diet and the high huminity needs. Cornsnakes has easy avalable diet and not really huminity needs, and you could handle them too (I mean frogs are anfibians so you can' t handle them)... But of course it's your list. :) :)

I really like you and what you have put online. I don't agree with what you have said and where you put the common boa, I've kept them for years to me the size and there beauty makes them top of the list. To me any snake that gets bigger is still at the end of the day still a reason for worry know matter how much i love them. At the end of the day they still have a wild side. It's better to be safe than sorry. Like I said I'm now a big fan of you and love what you do x

I have a ball python and a California kingsnake, and I prefer my kingsnake for the exact opposite opinion mentioned in the video. I like that I rarely have to worry if she will eat, and she's curious. She's my little explorer. She gets into everything wanting to know what everything is, and I find that more interesting than my ball python. He's so chill. He gets "outside cage time" and I never have to find him because he will be in one of two spots and doesn't move, or explore. He's "boring", but I still love him.

Regarding the Common Boa/BCI (now BI technically): The different localities need to be split up if you want the whole picture. Basically the "pet shop boa" is a mixed bag because you don't know what size it will reach etc. They're usually mainly of Columbian descent but there's all sorts of mixes. When you're talking about the pure locality boas, some of the dwarf localities easily are an S. I personally only have Tarahumaras and I absolutely adore them. They're so docile; one of my four hissed at me the first two times I handled him, nothing else. No attitude after that. Even though I kinda miss it sometimes, it was just so adorable. Zero problems with feeding, the only thing to consider is to keep your hand away from them when feeding them. You can chill on your bed/sofa, watch a video and just let them explore, climb up your legs or whatever they wanna climb up. They're very slow movers, so you're not at risk of losing them behind your furniture (unless you fall asleep of course). Very slow metabolisms, basically poop once or twice a month, 2 meals per month when they're young. They're about as hardy as a snake can be, there's a huge temperature span in their natural habitat. No problems regarding humidity, just a big water bowl will usually do the trick. All around just perfect. I'm currently building new enclosures for them, already looking forward to having them move in.

there was a point where i didn't agree with you on rainbow boa requirements since im a huge BRB enthusiast, these things seemed easy enough to me. I would put BCI and BCC in different categories. I handled both, and the BCI was holding itself stronger on me and always seemed a bit more nervous. It was very tame, but it could not be handled by a younger person because of how fast it could end up wrapped on a wrist and then squeezing (just to hold itself, no harm intended, but it still was a very very intense grip). On the other hand, BCC are more potato-like. They will slither more loosely around your body and eventually just find a spot to rest. Unless they are curious about something. Then they will just proceed to go there. sloooowly.

Great list and I actually enjoyed hearing your opinions on care, temperament and overall experience. We are experiencing the hunger strike situation that makes ball pythons so fun 🙄 habit checks out as far as humidity/heat and hides, he’s just kind of new to our home and wants live lunch like at his previous home but we really want to get him switched over to f/t for obvious reasons. The spotted pythons sound amazing 🤩 not sure if you’ve done a care guide for them yet but yeah, great list and hope you do another. Would love to see if anything changes position on the list.

I don't know if I could decide. My BP is easier to take care of because she doesn't nose rub, eats very well for a BP, and doesn't make a mess of her enclosure. I almost never actually see her in the enclosure, but she's lots of fun to let loose and is very active when exploring. My BCI is fun to watch in the enclosure, but he frequently rubs his nose and has been to the vet a few times in the 4 years I've had him, and falls off his perches so I'm usually worried he's going to hurt himself. He's fun to watch explore outside of the enclosure but doesn't move far away

Here’s a little change for aquatic turtles, they’re actually quite affectionate and are very interactive. No many people made videos of interacting with aquatic turtles, other than a video of a person who hand raised and gave love and affection to a snapping turtle. Yes they made the snapping turtle very docile and said person of said snapping turtle, named Gizmo. KZbinr is Jeffrey Perico and they showed a aquatic turtle it’s friendly side who grew accustomed to their owner.

@@ilovebooksandmycats669 my crestie boy is a year old now and he still has my heart because of how cute his little face is. He tried sitting on my thumb like he did when he was a baby and he’s bigger than my thumb now 😭

From my experience I think uromastyx are one of the best beginner lizards. But keep in mind your energy bill will sky rocket due to the extreme heat they need.

I thought Diamond was gonna go on the S category for sure since he's your favorite. I could hear his gasps of betrayal. 🤣

As much as i love my CRB i'd probably agree with the C rating. Mine's fine with handling as long as he's not in shed but the care requirements are way different than anything else i own. I live in the desert so keeping humidity up was a challenge at first and maintaining it is definitely more involved than any other snake I own.

Antaresia as S tier is 100% accurate. Best snake I've ever owned (so far) is my Children's Python. She's super active, great to handle, rarely ever refuses food, and almost any time I walk into her room she'll come out to see what's going on. I honestly don't know how these snakes aren't more popular. The only downside I've experienced is that they can be very nippy as juveniles. They are so small that they literally cannot hurt you, probably not even while full grown honestly, but if you're jumpy you could potentially hurt them at that age.
