I've also looked at the Raynox HD-6600PRO-49 Wide Angle Conversion lens, 0.66x selling for about $140 in the US. In any case, thanks for your excellent video showing a range of conversion lens for the x920...I've subscribed..!!

I use a video camera solely for our dancing lessons in Style Dancing and being at 60 years young, the brain cells are not as youthful anymore hence quick-snappy actions within a time-frame of 0,5 to 1,5 secs is essential to flip out and film to capture sudden instructions our dance instructor displays when we stop to watch.... I found a compact size and good value with adequate results could meet this challenge at any dance course without the tripod. :) Thanks again for the valued info. :)

TQ Graham as I am still on the path finding out as much as I can thru DD prior to my purchase on the Panasonic X920 pretty soon. Agree very much on the 30mm claimed wide angle from Panasonic while I'm looking something lesser than Sony's 26mm wide angle which I have through the 260VE i bought 4 months ago and learning to appreciate more on video than just still shots from a semi DSLR camera. As my captions are fundamentally within a 5m to 20m range max. for qik candid filming. - 2B Cont'd..

Graham, have you been able to use the X920 much since you previous comparison video? I'm very interested in buy this as a second camera to my 5D MKII. Would like to see what the camera is cabable of in low light for instance. Also a a more detailed tour round the camera would be useful. No pressure :) I always like your videos as you give such an unbiased and 'clean' review in your videos. Thank you in advance.

Brilliant Video Graham its very useful. I have a quick question. Do wide conversion lens work on the principle that the lower the number the wider the lens (field of view)? So a 0.5 lens would be wider than a 0.7? Also has anyone tried zooming in with the konica lens? was there much distortion? Thank you

Hi Graham, a shot in the dark about using a wide angle converter on the X920. What if I use a Digital King 58 mm lens and use step up ring to go from 29 to 58mm, do you think that will help to cut down the cromatic abbertions at the edge of the lens?

I own the last one of the conversion lenses and use it on a Panasonic HC-VX878 and a Canon EOS 600D (Rebel T3i) and don't see any vignette. The only time I can see this is when I activate the 4k recording on my Panasonic and I don't think that a 4K conversion lens exist or if so, nobody could afford it I think. So, I'm really impressed with this conversion lens and would it buy again :)

Now that you have mentioned videography in landscape...I think you just woke my mind up. Since Ive been using the 550D as my video support, I come to realize that the complexity of the DSLR camera and affordability of wide angle lenses , plus accurate focus, makes me want to skip DSLR landscape shooting, into Panasonic's HD camcorders, :\ much easier to cope with I think and the wide angle distortion is minimal than it would be on a DSLR.

Graham hi there,great review.I will be 2 months in Bolivar salt lake desert self doc challenge to walk 1000 miles solo.my camera of choice is panasonic x 920 for ease of use,class 10 sandisk cards.What do you think of the Hoya ND filters 77mm dia with step up rings,this will allow the rings as a kind of hood also.i would like to keep the filter on during shoots and not keep changing stops,what do you think ?so a variable type perhaps will work ?

I've just done a comparison for another viewer against the FZ200 ( not sure why the viewer wanted it as they are different altogether) I shoot a bit of video with the MK3 but it doesn't compare to the ease of shooting with the X920. I'm doing a further video review with some of the features (good and bad) explained and that should be up early next week.

I haven't any experience with the semi-fish eye converters as I don't have the specific need to gather extra wide angle shots. The are all going to give some distortion (in chromatic aberration terms) as well as the curvature of field. maybe Amazon is the best supplier where you can return it if the results are not what was expected.

Graham Houghton A friend uses a 0.43 on a quadcopter but the 0.7 gives a more natural perspective. I bought from SRS.

Graham, I use the Panasonic VW-W4907 wide-angle convertor lens with my X920 (and AG-AC90) camera. I'm pretty happy with the performance. I've been thinking of getting a second lens (for the odd occasion where I'd like wider shots using both cameras at the same time, such as event videography) and the Minolta ACW100 looks good. One question though.., does it allow 'zoom through'...i.e. while the convertor lens is mounted, can you still zoom and get a sharp image...? The Panasonic VW-W4907 allows this, although there is some softness at the higher zoom 8~12x zoom... the Panasonic lens sells for about $249, and the Minolta (used) can be purchased for around $100...

hi Michael, yes the lens will focus through and although I haven't done a focus test it does look sharp at full zoom on the camera lcd screen

I'll go for the Digital King DSW Pro as price-wise and immediate availability. It will obviously be cumbersome with the Konica-Minolta ACW-100 but will probably stock it later as a standby spare for our vacations on the panoramic sights abroad. :) 2B cont'd...

There is no mention of a filter thread on the lens on the Panasonic web site. If the lens has a 37/39mm thread then you can use wide angle conversion lenses otherwise it will be difficult to attach them without making some conversion system

Hi Graham, I am using a 58mm Super King 0.7 converter on my HC-X920 and I notice that I can only zoom to about 4x without loosing focus. You may ask why use a wide angle with zoom, but I do find it useful, for example, when shooting a church which has architectural detail which I wish to show via a zoom from the general view. I used to use a Sony camera with a .45 converter and this would focus throughout the 10x optical zoom range. Can you explain the science for me? Thanks. Ross.

Ross & Diane Ord, the Raynox 6600 Pro works in the same way, only being a partial zoom-through while remaining sharp. This type of optical design ensures the least amount of barrel distortion so is favoured by many, but if you don't mind bendy straight lines, you can choose a total zoom-through converter.

Dear Graham, I have a Wide angle Lens which I obtained some time ago, its called a Canon Converter Lens WD-H58W 0.8x it was puchased for my Canon Legia HF G 40 CAMCORDER, but this year a decided to buy a Panasonic HC-VXF990 So for I managed to charge Batteries,as it seems very fragile so i will give it some additional lens and Camcorder support.....? if can find the right Step up lens from Panasonic Camcorder to Canon Converter lens,as i have tried myself from Photo Factory Ltd, but failed to get it Right, Kind Regards. You didn't mention anything about the lens coatings, and with wideangle converters this is an important issue. A Raynox 6600 I had had a coated front element but an uncoated exit element, a bit cheap I thought. Also, while I'm here, it would be good for your test shots to include a telegraph pole or something at the frame's edge, that way we could judge the barrel distortion issue more easily.

Panasonic list a wide converter for the camera but you didn't test it?

Yes the LTW55 is the same 0.7x magnification as the minolta lens I used here, the results will be the same

unlike the neewer converter (which is PURE SHIT) this one is a valid wide angle without any aberration or vignetting. However I accidentally touched it with a finger and cleaning it was an indescribable hell! Whatever you do with a cloth or breath will only make things worse as long as you have the lens full of halos. The most absurd thing is that nothing seems to exist to protect it
