Was a scary situation for sure, esp with the step/little drop right beforehand! But the crash itself was pretty mild - he did a good job not posting with a single arm on that rock. Got low, faced away and chest bumped what was left of the velocity/energy after the initial impact. Props!
@jeremyread2616 жыл бұрын
Ummmm is it just me or was that totally avoidable by going left instead of right around that rock. Brian sort of went the bad route and hit his brakes right in the middle of it right?

Lunch Loops is the best! I was out there the last week of April riding in Fruita cuz my best friend lives in Grand Junction. Never rode the ribbon since i dont have the fitness or experience just yet, but i had a ton of fun riding all the intermediate trails they have in that area. Lunch Loops has the craziest terrain! Those mud hills are so strange and man are they slick if they arent super dry. The top might be dry, but if its wet 2 inches underneath your wheel just slides out. Also, rocks rocks rocks and rocks. Never seen as many rocks on a trail in my life! Granted I have only lived in illinois, but still it is so rocky. Tons of fun!

Those trails looked like a blast! Nice riding. Nuts when the guy just hammered into the rock right beside you! I wonder if that part that keeps coming loose would accept some Loctite 222 on it just to keep it from vibrating loose? It would break free with very little torque on it with a wrench, and it isn't corrosive. It should hold it in place so you don't have it back out and fall off. Or...you might call Orbea and order a spare, because occasionally they have to get parts from Spain and that would STINK if by some bizarre circumstance you had to wait that long.

Thar wierd stuff at that huge climb at the end of the Ribbon is bentonite. It is crunchy when dry but you don't want to ride on that when it is wet....it is super slippery and gunks up on your bike and wheels...i mean it cakes and stops all moving parts and it dries like concrete. We hit that in 2012 and it was like being in the movie Platoon in that climb up...folks sliding on their rear ends and sliding down a few inches for every foot advanced. We spent an hour at the top with sticks freeing the wheels, derailleurs, and all,moving partd from the caked on bentonite

3:43 A tip for overheating brakes: You guys need to pull hard, reduce the speed significantly, then release, let the speed to increase and the brakes to cool, then repeat-pull hard for significant speed drop and release. It's usefull to have a quick look behind, not to surprise anyone that wants to go fast, or shout "braking hard" before you squeze. This braking problem was surely caused by massaging the brakes for a long rock slab descend with heavy rider onboard. Once really needed, brakes were gone. (100kg is heavy considering majority of Europe is 65-75kg, don't wanna offend anyone) That technique is also used in cars for heavy braking from a high speed run, makes a massive heat dissipation difference.
@bkxc6 жыл бұрын
Definitely a good call on that. I was on the brakes the whole time, but I think being a bit lighter and having the XTR brakes kept me alive!
