greasing the steering cable (and throttle cables): 1. take a garden hose, 3/4" will do for a steering cable, attach to one end a compressor air fitting and a shutoff valve 2. disconnect the steering cable end (transom side) and pull over the said hose with the other end on the cable, clamp the connection to seal hose\cable connection 3. open shutoff valve and fill low viscosity motor oil (like 0w30) or atf to the other ned of the hose 4. close the valve connect the compressor, set the psi so as to not rupture the hose. 5. Open the valve to let oil under the pressure in to the inner part of the hose, try moving the steering wheel to speed up the process. After a few hours the steering cable will be like new

😅pick up some Wesley is white wall cleaner at your auto parts store, spray it on your fiberglass swish it around a little bit have a little drink of beer, and then scrub off all the dirt, I’ve been using this stuff for 40 years I can’t find anything better. (After 40 years I am not looking anymore). Lol. I am over 70 and boat less , but I have Bought and sold more than 12 boats, Mostly sailboats and two trawlers in the 40 foot range, enjoy your boat , and many more to come , get a sailboat you can go further, without worrying about fuel. Lol

I’m not sure what kind of material your cover is but I recommend trying 303 Fabric Guard! You’d want to lay the cover out, scrub it with some soap and water and let it dry out. Then apply a good amount to the cover and let it dry. Does a great job of repelling water. Another big factor is the pitch of your cover. Support poles in the right areas are key!
@BoatRestorationbyBen
@BoatRestorationbyBen Жыл бұрын
Thank you for this! The bungee does a great job but a support pole or two would help. The cover is made out of semi truck grade load cover material. Very thick rubberized material.

Hey there, love your videos. I was wondering if you would be able to give me some advice. I have a 1991 Monterey 206 SCR and I’m having intermittent starting issues. I can give you a rundown of what I’ve done so far. Really looking for some advice.

Send me what you've done so far. To get the Sea Ray running right we replaced... spark plugs, rebuilt fuel injectors, replaced ALL battery cables, removed and replaced all fuel and fuel lines/filters, fixed up fuel pump, tested all ignition coils.

Heads up. When you sell the boat, someone is going to show up with a moisture meter and tell you that the stringers and the transom are rotten. They won’t be lying because it’s a 1990’s SeaRay. Don’t dump too much money into it.
@BoatRestorationbyBen
@BoatRestorationbyBen Жыл бұрын
Surprisingly enough, I've tested them. They are dry. I have used a meter as well as taken samples. It's hard to believe it but I'm lucky. I'm sure someone will bring it up but I'm glad I can at least speak to it. Thanks for watching the videos brother.

Have to be honest for such a cool boat and a guy that knows a lot about working on things and does a lot of the work himself. Your work is extremely shotty. Your dash looks horrible. It’s like you start a project and don’t finish it. Lol give me a call I’d be more than happy to build you a schedule in a timeline and force you to stick to a blueprint?
@BoatRestorationbyBen

Hey Sean thanks for the comment. I do what I can with the time and the resources I have. Cosmetically the boat could be a lot better but I tell you what that's all a part of the journey. The main focus over the last couple years has been the mechanical and electrical side of things. Now that the boat is reliable and running well, I will take the time and go back to correct some of the cosmetic items that I rushed through. Keep watching and enjoy!
