That is a great ideal, I do some boaring on my drill press I'll have to make a setup like that. Thanks man.

I like you're thinking, I'm always trying to get my limited machinery to do more too. I wonder if you were to swing the table to the left, say 45° and clamp a longer and lower jig out to the right in the fresh air, you could gain quite a bit of height by making the jig less tall as the end of the boring bar would pass into free space and not bottom out on the table ? It would give you a bit more room for inserting the MT drills too ?

You made a line borer, we do this horizontally for when buckets ears, bearings, etc. go out of round on buckets loaders, and or anything with such...cool use.
@WideVisionMetalFab7 жыл бұрын
I really hadn't thought about it, but you are correct. I did a series of videos about line boring a tractor axle housing if you're interested. The videos are way too long. I keep thinking I should condense it to a 10 minute video.
@eddietowers55957 жыл бұрын
Thanks, for responding. I thought it was a cool idea, thinking outside the box, if you. I've been binge watching your vids, and at times, I think many people with channels, such as yours, filled with good content, aren't long enough! I remember, back in the eighties, watching this "Old House" with Bob Villa, when the show was over, I was like, "aww, man" I have to wait til' next week!? youtube changed all that, specially for the machining community. and I've been hooked onto longer videos with great content, so...no complaints here. keep up the good work.

alittle effin around but works very well and helps to have a good sized ridged drill press also...keep up the awesome work

Rotorbrotch cutters, so much simpler, cheaper and more accurate. Use them on the drill press regularly for large holes. Highly recommended getting a few sizes
@WideVisionMetalFab7 жыл бұрын
I am planning on adding rotorbroachers. And I just now realized I forgot to talk about something in the video. The big reason for using and adjustable bit is for clearance fit for pins and bushings.

Becca Webster do u have the Weldon shank adapter or how do you use em?
@WideVisionMetalFab7 жыл бұрын
Just use a 3/4 inch end mill holder with whatever taper fits your machine. (R-8 or MT3) If you're using a drill press, end mill holders with a tang work better. Not all end mill holders have a second set screw, but it can be easily added.
@beccaw59007 жыл бұрын
chris jones you can buy a morse taper adaptor as long as your drill press takes a morse taper, if not would be a simple job to make an adaptor for a drill chuck I've even seen them used in a hand drill, just need to drill a pilot hole for the centre pin. They remove less metal for easier drilling
@chrisjones61657 жыл бұрын
Becca Webster mt3 taper is what it uses

This kit got a hefty price tag...!!! But it seems to be doing great with a normal drill press, mostly for bigger diameters where it's really demanding... I'm not sure you should try flatening the top of your fixture by just manually moving the table, maybe if it fits on your bigger lathe using a face plate.
@WideVisionMetalFab7 жыл бұрын
I was thinking of facing it on the drill press because I'm not sure the drill press table is level and that would help reduce that error. I'm not sure I want to try using a fly cutter in the drill press any ways. Seems dangerous.
@pierresgarage26877 жыл бұрын
The spindle of a drill press isn't made to support lots of lateral forces, and trying to move the table in a real steadt fashion will require you invent a new device... ;)

matt get u a set screw on the back side of the tool bit and turn the set screw one full turn with a dial indicator to see how much it moves and if it moved .050 then on full turn would cut .100 just test screws till u find the one u like and ur set for accurate cuts any other hole saws are faster but u can always sharpen ur tool and ur going the other guy going to the store to buy a new high priced one

Thanks for making this vid Matt. I'm not sure how you lined up the part to be bored over the hole exactly right when you drilled it with the twist drill at first? You have no hole yet to line up over the bearing hole
@WideVisionMetalFab7 жыл бұрын
The metal piece was center punched and I aligned it to the center of the twist drill.

That's awesome Matt. Any chance you could go through how to grind a bit from scratch to use on this setup one day?
@WideVisionMetalFab7 жыл бұрын
I guess I could.... Maybe I'll try adding in some footage on the next sweep plow video. I'm currently doing the edit for rebuilding some wear points on that project. On second thought, maybe the grinding should be it's own video. I'll try to do something. :)

I've never come across one on ebay, or a knock off brand of one. It's called a Superdrill by Practool. I've also searched MT3 boring bar, but have never seen this style.

I prefer to bore in my milling machine. If it's for a bearing its got to be right. Only boring can get a hole accurate enough.
