In Australia, the caboose is referred to as a Brake Van. The Brake Vans of the 70/80s in South Australia had a six seat passenger cabin, allowing passengers to travel county lines with only freight trains. Can see their return to service valuable with the train that was in reverse at speed, the Caboose being the eyes and horn for the engineer.

The 1st one is actually the 133-31 from Canada. Once it gets to the buffalo yard it changes to the I165-01 heading to Bedford park.

I saw the CP Navy Heritage Unit September 2022 on my way home on Amtrak's Empire Builder from Seattle to Fargo, at Spokane train station, WA, the Seattle train was being hooked up with the Portland train, and the CP was going west, 1st loco was CP 8725,, then the CP Navy 7022 pulling mixed freight behind not sure about a dpu it was around 1am and the Portland train backed up into ours blocking the view and it was all aboard we had to get back on and go

Opening CP Heritage unit...good looking, sounds like crap with that feeble horn. Disappointing... Quite the difference with the autorack "parade" that follows..."speed-lettered" SP @11:52, GT in a (more) normal blue @12:00, a ConRail "road warrior" ("rusty-and-crusty") @12:31, followed by a faded-green BN autorack to close it out @13:13. Love the archived stuff, WWOT... 👌👏

It would be great if CSX restored that Chessie caboose with fresh paint, it is afterall part of their heritage so why not have heritage cabooses like they have heritage units. Nice catch.

I think the railroads need to bite the bullet safety wise and start putting manned cabooses back on all trains just to bring their image back up . Two more people per train can’t cost that much

a 1 grey day!! that one caboose was old as sin!! they quit building wood ones before WW1!! a sure sign of spring on 165 the increase of IM tanks!! wonder what they ship in those that requires warm weather? and wonder what they do with them you never see them going back!
