So heartbreaking! This didn't have to happen. ACS should never have returned those dogs to the owner. They knew what they were doing by breeding those dogs and training them to be aggressive. @@divinejohnson1632 you are not telling the whole truth. Nearly every city in Texas, including municipalities, has dog leash laws (also known as running-at-large laws). Almost ALL Texas cities require dogs to be leashed at all times when our doors or in stores like PetSmart etc. The cities that don't are the unincorporated cities with ranches and very few ppl. Any city with 100ppl or more has leash laws. So that was not true that "Texas doesn't have leash laws." You left out the most important part....99% of the state HAS LEASH LAWS. Also, I was mauled by my neighbors TWO PITBULLS who were indoor dogs that ran past her legs when she opened her front door, sprinted across and into my front yard where I was washing my truck and took me to the ground and I am a former Marine and was in my middle 30's and this breed of dog should be banned and all put down. I was no match. My neighbor was responsible for ambulance, medical bills, hospital bill and follow up appointments as well as covering what short term disability didn't pay of my salary so if anyone has a pitbull this could be you and should have around $10,000 stashed away just incase. You're generalising. Bad breeding is also a huge factor. Many of these bully types are inbred curs created by irresponsible, back alley breeders. Their motive is to make money not breed good traits in their wards. Those dogs can be hardwired by bad genetics into becoming aggressive and kookoo at any stage of their lives. People who refuse to recognise the importance of knowing the genetics of their pups, or the background environments of the sires and dams, may be fooled by into thinking they're getting a good dog, by lying, unscrupulous breeders too. Badly bred dogs can turn at any moment, even years later. I think Bully breeds need to be closely regulated and their bloodlines monitored. I also believe they need to be trained by licenced professionals to be used as working dogs, & not as family pets. There's just too much power contained in those dog types for them to be taken lightly. The back yard breeding needs to end. The origins and bloodline temperament traits of certain family clusters need to be out bred, not promoted. It's the same for their health conditions. I've seen too many people buy these backyard breeds without realising how dangerous it can be. I feel so sad for this woman and her husband. The state needs to do a better job protecting citizens from irresponsible breeders and owner.

Not a dumb question! There's been a ton of push back from advocacy groups who insist that all dogs can be "fixed" with training, even if they've attacked humans already. My sister who loved the idea of looking tough, wanted a mix rottie. I took one look at him and told her "one day that dog's head is going to twist and he's going to bite. Then he will attack and someone will end up in the hospital." I demanded even as a major dog lover, that the dog be put in a cage any time I stopped over. The dog went on to bite 4 people, and every time it was covered up. Finally it turned on and attacked my mouthy teenage nephew, who was messing with it while it was eating. He latched on to his hand, attacked him and he needed stitches. They STILL covered it up so they wouldn't get in trouble and then got rid of the dog. They never said what they did with it but likely adopted it like and claimed "we're moving and can't take the dog." She has gotten rid of over TWENTY ANIMALS in her life and she has not taken care of them. The last time i saw her cat, it's fur was matted with feces stuck under it's tail and she NEVER takes it to the vet. My relationship with her ended when my nephew went off the wall on me and verbally attacked and threatened me. She said she was "proud" of him. I'd done something nice for them and he didn't like the way I did it. People like this will never change. They have no morale and no concern for others. The animals are usually neglected, beaten and treated like crap. In this court case, someone innocent lost his life. All because of people who are nothing but trash. Likely they just wanted a "tough" image and that's why they kept these dogs.

I found out from a neighbor that a tenant had 4 pit bulls, which he was to have no pets according to our lease agreement. One of the dogs had chased the mailman up a tree at one point. I called the tenant telling him he had 3 days to get rid of them and 2 weeks to move out himself. I think of what could have happened - the lady across the street kept young children during the day…the tenant could have caused a huge lawsuit against me and if the insurance company found out they would have cancelled coverage. But to think of the possible tragedies with those children - unthinkable. Why anyone would want to have dangerous breeds in a neighborhood I don’t understand. And don’t comment it’s just ‘how they are raised’. Some animal breeds have proved over and over their violent instincts are natural - and no one can know when they could be triggered.

Pit Bull defenders will ALWAYS say that. What people don’t seem to want to admit is that that same “protective” instinct that is inherit in Pit Bulls is the exact same instinct that will allow them to perceive a threat when one doesn’t exist, and snap and go into attack mode. Even on a beloved family member. It’s inherent to their breed! Just like my mini Schnauzer was bred to hunt small animals. Namely rodents. There’s no “training” that outta her! Sure, I can teach her “boundaries” and such, but it’s highly unlikely that I could ever just let her roam off leash anywhere that isn’t fenced in. She has great recall, and she always wants to be near me, but if she sees a small animal, forget about it. She goes into a trancelike state and goes berserker! I can scream my head off, chase her, spray her with a hose, whatever; she ain’t listening until she catches whatever she spotted, or she loses track of it. She’s been sprayed by a skunk 5 times and she’s 2! 😂 Now, I’m not saying that there won’t be exceptions to the rule with breeds that are bred for something like this, but it’s VERY likely that even if you do happen to train them “perfectly”, and you think “my dog would never do that”, there is always going to be that possibility. Why chance it? Personally, I’ve never had any desire to own a dog that could potentially maul someone’s face off. I love dogs, but I’ll take my weak a$$ lil mini Schnauzer (who doesn’t shed and LOOOOOVES to shnuggle 😂) over a powerful breed any ol’ day. But then again, my pets have never existed to “make a statement” for me. I don’t need people to think I own a bad a$$ dog. I just want a furry, sweet, gentle friend❤

I own a VERY serious breed of dog and it’s a tremendous responsibility. Three years ago I adopted a “mastiff/lab mix” from my local animal shelter. When she was about a year old her trainer and her veterinarian encouraged me to take a DNA test. The DNA test indicated my rescue is 100% Fila Brasilia with no other breeds present. I had no idea what a “Fila” even was… I’ve always ADOPTED rescue hound dogs. My Fila has been in professional training since she was 12 weeks old. My dog goes to private training as well as group. I still take her to professional training three times a week and work with her every day. I do NOT have a choice! If I wasn’t constantly working with my Fila she could be dangerous. My dog is very good but it’s in her NATURE to protect at all times at all costs. She perceives everyone but me as a potential threat at all times. I still have to use a prong collar when walking her and have to be alert at all times. People who have “serious” dogs are obligated to TRAIN their dogs. Owning a Fila, like any kind of “serious” breed is extremely hard work. Please don’t adopt a breed that you aren’t willing to train! This is extremely horrific and sad, my prayers to the victim and those who loved him.

I don’t like pit bulls and the main reason is there is no way to test a dog if it’s been bread with its mother sister etc. San Antonio is a beautiful place to live. My husband of twenty years was born there and I stayed living there for 45 years and I plan on going back. It’s not the whole cities fault what happened. In Manchester NH I was looking to adopt or buy another chihuahua and these adoption places only have bull dogs or pitbull. I don’t trust them around kids period. I just got a chihuahua/ Pomeranian that had been badly abused and bites. There are different levels of biting there are warning bites and then there are bites that draw blood and the dog has intentions of harm. People start teasing these dogs and you can’t do that. Everyone in the home needs to know not to make quick moves. Abuse of an animal should be reported by anyone that knows. The fog I got the people who had her abused the dog do bad it’s tail had to be removed. Sometimes a dog never gets over abuse. These people knew that these dog may bite and they did. They killed this man.
