Wiener Prater Review, Downtown Austria Amusement Park | World's Most Expensive Amusement Park

Wiener Prater is Austria's largest amusement park. This park is located in the heart of Vienna and it feels like a large carnival between the ride lineup and electric atmosphere. As of 2022, the park has 15 different roller coasters, many crazy flats, and almost a dozen dark rides. But it may be the world's most expensive theme park!

between the expensive pay-per-ride structure and crazy flat rides, Wiener Prater feels like a permanent Oktoberfest. Especially with Olympia Looping switching between those so-call carnivals

It's worth pointing out that Wiener Prater's unusual set up means that the park has a lot of prototype rides, which makes it a gold mine for unusual flat rides. Also, you say it had usual carnival food - it does, but it also has lots of top quality restaurants at the rear of the park, which act as both park restaurants and fully fledged city restaurants. I have had some superb meals there, way above the standard you'd find at a typical park

Wiener Prater ... a.k.a., "Flatride Mecca" Had I the money, time, and opportunity, I'd be ALL OVER this place! I'm not big on pendulums or towers, but the spinning rides alone would keep a smile on my face for the whole day. I would LOVE to get on Extasy at some point (as well as so many other spinning rides). A number of YT videos that opened my eyes as to what was out there in terms of flatrides were from WP. This place just looks *incredible*!

Extasy is the most absurd ride I ever ridden. Near one minute hangtime and continous 4-5 G force AT THE SAME TIME - I never seen like this. I've ridden it several times, and I can't say it was good, rather attractively unusual, as a challenge. The most stomach-killer ride for me is Discovery Revolution - usually skip it because simply too much.

Great review! =) About the prices, I have to say that I personally am more comfortable with giving 200€ to a bunch of small businesses than 50€ to one large corporation! And the option to go there for just a couple of rides instead of paying one large entrance fee also means, that more locals just go there to hang out and meet! ;-)

"Expensive" is the wrong word. The rides are individually priced quite well, but as there's SO many rides, most enthusiasts will spend a LOT to ride them all! I spent €300 in two days here, but I loved every minute and can't wait to go back when I remortgage my house 😆

Probably the most expensive amusement park (and the only park I know with pay restrooms), but on the other hand, it has the shortest queue lines. 15 minutes waiting counts long in the Prater. There are much more rides than neccessary, it's impossible (by money and stomach) to ride everything on a day. But riding just the best rides is a very time-efficient thing, you don't have to waist your time for waiting, and your money for food and drink. There is no entry fee, so you can go home for a lunch and come back later. For me, Prater compered with a usual theme park, is like a market compared with a shopping mall. Rides are operated by many independent operator, everyone tries to sell his product. Chaotic. I like it.

And what about the Sling Shot ? You didn’t have the chance to ride it ? For me it’s one of those experiences that you will never forget : the speed and high is insane ! And regarding the food : for those who can afford (because it is not given) there is a pretty good restaurant on top of the building near to Megablitz (it is written « BE KIND » on the building). As I say, the restaurant is located on the top of the building, so you have an amazing view of the Prater and Vienna ! Absolutely worth it ! 😍 Btw great video !

missed out on a few credits here since they were so hidden, also was too late for a few good looking rides and too early for Wiener Looping, Megablitz was an awesome coaster (other than the restraints i felt like i was holding on for my life) and i enjoyed the 0 worker part of Die giesente sau (i dont speak german) also, prater has around 250 rides, around 5 times more than the biggest parks in my country

The Booster and the snake (Schwarze Mamba) are really intense. The near 120 meter tall star flyer is incredibly beautiful, especially at sunset.

this is a park I probably would have written off if not for your reviews, so thanks a bunch for putting it on the map for me; it's a shame there's no one-price wristband but it seems like the lack of lines or fastpass system sorta justifies that and with the rides being independently operated I definitely can't blame them for it. Hochschaubahn looks pretty awesome and it's not every day you get to ride an old-fashioned scenic railway coaster with a brakeman (especially one that needed to be recreated after being destroyed in WWII)

I have ridden them a lot of them the trick as a local is to spend maybe 100 euros a year and then you get through them in like 10 years. And even though I cant say that I have ridden everything every year ther are at least 4 new actions and that keeps things interesting and me coming back.

Bakken (Dyrehavsbakken) in Denmark is operated similarly - it's free of admission and each attraction is owned independently. But they still offer a solution in form of wristbands that give you 10 free rides on each flat ride and rollercoaster. And 10 rides per attraction is still a lot in my opinion! :) Wiener Prater should follow this example!

I thought it was unlimited rides no restrictions when I was there in 2019. But that system sounds more than fair.

Coney Island in New York and Linnanmäki in Helsinki are the same - there are unlimited any pay-per-ride options. Prater used to try different discount cards, but a lot of attraction doesn't accept any card at all - just cash. It's really unique in 2022.

It's different for everyone. The most naueseating ride for me is a basic swinging ship, but I can oddly handle most other pendulums.

@@CanobieCoaster Wow -- Inverting or non? Fireball tried to kill me but haven't tried a noninverting ship in a long time, wouldn't be worried. Screamin swing seems to be my limit. Teacups etc. OK. I'm mainly pondering Himalaya and booster rides, although the latter are also scary.

I was there in 1983 when I believe I rode the 1st Jet Star 1; which I found better than the Jet Star 2 which I'd already ridden when it was at Playland in Vancouver in the late 70's the 80s. (although it doesn't look as good as the Jet Star 3 which I've never yet ridden.)

​@@StamfordBridge The thrill rides cost cca. 4-6 EUR, dark rides are cheaper a bit. It's oversupply of dark rides and fun houses, but their quality varies. My favourite rides: booster, snake (Schwarze Mamba), the 120-meter tall star flyer (Prater Turm). Boomerang is a short and old but pretty intense looping coaster.

I am so happy when i see an american go in to the europeen flatrides from on the fair. In every country here they go as fast as they can. They are power machines and here they use and abuse it XD U deffentelty have to ride a Huss break dance 3 here in the netherlands. Especialy the ones from Zuidema, I promes you u will be scared

The issue with Prater is the large quantity of good rides, so you want to spend a lot.
