She was right, in the game it was Kratos who made Atlas carry the world on his shoulders. He was only chained up somewhere else in Tartarus before Persephone let him go to destroy the pillar that holds the world (that's the reason why Atlas was with Persephone in the underworld), which did get destroyed but Kratos chained him there during the final battle with Persephone so now Atlas is the one holding the earth and why Atlas had a grudge against Kratos when they met the 2nd time.

Something important that was cut from the previous video regarding GoW2: The destruction of Sparta. You can hear Kratos say "I won't let you destroy Sparta" as he's fighting Zeus. Right before reaching the temple of the sisters, Kratos enters a shadowy room and fights a figure we can't make out, until they break out of the room into daylight and realize Kratos just ran through the young spartan commander that had survived Zeus' wiping out the Spartan army after stabbing Kratos. Confused and angry, Kratos asks him why hes there, and the commander explains that Sparta no longer exists, as after killing him Zeus descended on it and destroyed it completely, which is why the commander left to seek the sisters so they could change the fate of Sparta being destroyed. With his last breath the commander says he has faith Sparta will at least live on through Kratos, the true god of war. This pisses off Kratos to the max, if anymore is even possible, as now he has lost his wife, daughter, brother, mother, reputation, countrymen AND finally his homeland. He has absolutely nothing left. Post this we see the scene with him reaching the Sisters themselves. The reason Kratos had to find the sisters and go back in time was so he could retrieve the Blade of Olympus, where he put in all his godly powers, without those he isn't strong enough to take on Zeus in open combat or kill him for good, as well as prevent Sparta being destroyed. He at least succeeded in doing that by going back in time, but with the death of Athena whatever small ounce of remorse and humanity Kratos still had has been completely replaced by revenge, which you'll see in full display during the cutscenes of GoW 3

If he went back in time to save his daughter or whatever there would be two Kratos, him and his past self so if he would change the past he would cease to exist and so everything he has done from that point on. Ares and all the gods would still be alive and the story would repeat again someway. Its a bit of a mindfuck but think about it.

It's actually kind of simple why Kratos was regretful to have killed Athena, it even goes beyond his relationship with her. Deep down... VERY deep down, he's a standup guy. All you need to do to survive an angry Kratos is to step out of his way. That is it. In the games earlier in the timeline he even outright protects strangers, pushing them out of the way of danger and everything. If you don't raise your hand against him, he WILL NOT hurt you. Not on purpose. If you're getting in his way, if you're not being reasonable, he WILL take you out. But if you haven't hurt him, which up to this point Athena hasn't despite her jerking him around, then he does not want to hurt you.

Kratos knew Zeus was his father since ghost of Sparta game. His mother told him before she turned into the monster, that was her secret. Also the grave digger that kratos met throughout God of war is Zeus in disguise.

A fun fact about those first words at the start about messing up xd. On the very first videos is stated on how the prophecy said that the "marked" child of Zeus is the one that will come to kill him. If you remember when Atenea and Ares went to get Demos, Ares punches Kratos away giving him a scar "the mark" the prophecy was talkig about. New follower here, love these videos

The order of the games are as follows: God of War: Ascension God of War: Chains of Olympus God of War God of War: Ghost of Sparta God of War: Betrayal (which was a mobile game) God of War 2 God of War 3 God of War (2018) God of War: Ragnarok If you want the full full story including the filler bits then you can search the cinematics from each of these games but like I said in another comment most of the missed parts is just gameplay bits but it’s a good watch. I had a friend one time tell me he didn't believe in spoilers - like they aren't real. He said it's bc there is still so many ways that the writing can get you to the 'spoiler' that its almost more fun to watch and piece together. This just kinda proved that - if we think of them as prophecies, the ending you think was spoiled is now an interesting milestone to watch a story unfold around! Just to let you guys know God of War 2 (which is this game) came out before the release of Ghost of Sparta which showed him seeing his mother and Deimos which is why it ended about him hearing from Athena about Zeus being his father. Thanks for making these videos, it's been fun re-watching the origin story of Kratos and seeing the reactions of people who are new to it :) On the topic of coming full circle, the events of Kratos' story are started due to the God's fear of the prophecy that a marked warrior will destroy Olympus. In seeking to prevent the prophecy from coming true the God's unintentionally set off the chain of events that leads to the prophecy coming true. This theme is touched on again in the new games and I personally find this the most interesting part of the overall storyline of the GOW games, the power of belief in shaping the events of life (self-fulfilling prophecies).

Just FYI, how this video started is not how we first seen the story line. Kratos' childhood is only shown in Ghost of Sparta, which was a PSP game. First we seen kratos when he jumped off the highest mountain to kill himself when he said "The God of Olympus have abandoned me, now there is no hope". Plus people usually thinks Kratos always wanted revenge, in fact later in the games thats how he was shown, but in GOW 1, you can see that he only wanted to forget the pain ad vision of him killing his family. He didnt even think, it was possible to kill a god. But GOW 2 has one of the legendary quote of all time from Kratos - ""A choice from the gods, is as useless as the gods themselves".

In that original scene just before they got hit by that wave you can actually see the titans get surrounded by an energy and in the scene in this video you can actually see that he picks them to take them to his time. Like others have said this cliff hanger was incredible. The wait for GoW 3 was unbearable, and that game didn't disappoint. That game's first hour was maybe the greatest in gaming history. If the rest of the game was that good it EASILY is the greatest game of all time (not that it's not good, but nothing could match that first hour), it al;so has the best graphics on the PS3 until the next Gow sequel came out.

Also I def recommend just going through the cinematics of all the games before GoW 3 so you get the full context of what was happening during all the skips. Most of it is gameplay which is why they probably didn’t show it but it also would’ve been like a 8-10 hour video if the included all of that but do in the story order bc like I said some games that play as prequels came out after some of the games which are later in the story like GoW Ascension which is a prequel to all the games

They set the strength of fate to be a very strong device in the story... prophecies were given and whoever took measures to avoid the foretold future inadvertently caused it. This establishes that fate would never be broken, so since we know this, all the gods and beings who knew the prophecy that faced Kratos was like... "well this man is prophisied to bring death and destruction but even though fate is absolute, imma fight em anyway "? This also shows the sisters of fate cannot even defy the fate they've established... they say Kratos' fate will never change but then tries to kill him?.... even though is FATED to bring destruction to Olympus. I don't put these to be as plot holes though, I believe the writers were showing how pathetic and fruitless the actions these beings took to avoid a known future were.

the end of god of war 2 is kinda dumb, he can control time, why doesn't he go back and save his spartan army and his family, he goes back and save the titans who he doesn't even know and all of them die before reaching olympus, i bet that his army would get there without much problem since he could help them cuz he was a god again

In the actual Greek lore Kronos who is Zeus's father fought against his father because the man sealed away many of his own children inside of Gaia because they didn't live up to his standards, Kronos being the strongest and smartest of his kids didn't like that so he rebelled against his own father Free to siblings and cut off his father balls, afterward he became the King of the Titans, and the ruler of Time, and when Kronos heard that one of his kids would overthrow him he decided to eat them instead of killing them, and you know how that went, but for the reason why it turned into a war was not because Zeus turned against all the Titans because most of the Titans sided with Kronos, several Titans were actually spared. The funny enough there was an actual prophecy of one of Zeus's own children overthrowing him too in the original Greek mythology lore, but it wasn't from any child with a god or human but his first wife who was also his caretaker she's not in the games, so to prevent her child from overthrowing him he absorbed her with said child. And he thought everything was good until said child decided to pop herself out of Zeus's head and her name was Athena. Though for whatever reason this meant she couldn't fulfill the prophecy anymore so win for him I guess. To be honest most gods who could overthrow Zeus tend to get screwed over for one reason or another anf ironically most of the time not directly by him. Not saying he doesn't screw over all the gods in many ways. But most of the time when a God who has the power to surpass him appears they usually have something happen to them half the time by Hera that prevents them from rising to their full power. Dionysus probably being one of the most iconic. And funny enough it's not because she doesn't want them to overthrow her husband being the fact that she also tried to overthrow her husband, it's usually out of petty reasons

From someone that has never played a GOW game, I love the GOW series. I love the Greek setting, I love hack & slash, the story, the dramatic scenes and the voice actor Terrence C. Carson, a stella performance, he's so good I still remember the lines he has said as Kratos and I didn`t know he was a black guy until I looked him up, a sick voice actor. When I saw GOW at E3 I was hyped coz I had a PS4 unfortunately when I saw the gameplay and heard the direction it was going I was disappointed. Two things ruined GOW for me, the stupid over the shoulder camera and you can`t jump anymore, you not being able to jump has taken away parts of the combat and the dumb camera perspective is stupid in a game where you are surrounded by enemies. What makes it worse the media was craping on the old games when if it wasn't for the old games the new (rubbish) GOW would not be as popular as it is, the events of the old games make the new GOW relevant. Yes I can admit it did well based on the numbers however they have spoiled the GOW for me, the old GOW was better and no one can convince me otherwis. I will still watch future GOW games on KZbin but I will never buy any of them, such a disappointment

@@flippednormals297 I am not apart of that 99%, my friend. I read the novel AND played the game......multiple times. There is a clear discrepancy between the two. I get both the novel and the later games tried to retcon Athena's actions and clean her image up, but it does not remove the fact that Athena originally lied to and manipulated Kratos by twisting her words to give him hope that if he served her faithfully, she would adhere to a promise that she would not (and probably could not) keep. This is why he always says things like "gods are not to be trusted" and "the word of a god is as useless as the gods themselves".

@HitmanHimself athena is a SHE not a HE. and also she is very slimy. She literally took part in capturing kratos brother. She lied to kratos multiple times by saying she would free him of his nightmares, she then encourages kratos to be more of a monster and demanded that she take the power to herself, only to get salty when kratos gives the power to the right people and leaves kratos to literally die at the end

@@DivineThug as the dude was saying in the video to his wife "we might be missing a lot of context here" which they are are, Athena never lied to kratos about his nightmares it was Zeus, he tricked her into believing "forgiveness will take away his nightmares" so she made the deal with Kratos, later Zeus denied to do so, and she tried her best to convince him. its written in gow1 novel. 2nd Kratos' suicide would have not made his condition any better rather would have made it worse. He would just goto the underworld still suffering from his nightmares (It was said by the game devs) and hades would tortured kratos in the underworld (its said by gaia in gow2) said by hades himself in gow3 and in gow2 novel aswell. because Kratos had killed Persphone (hades' wife) and hades wanted to take his revenge. Athena infact did better for him by saving him. Its all supported by the directors and producer who made the games. "Athena always wanted to help out Kratos, she had empathy for him" "Out of all the gods, Athena has always been the one to self sacrifice, the one who's trying to do the right thing" that's why she selflessly sacrificed herself to save Zeus. because of her selfless act she reached higher existence. But because of that she experience so much powers in higher existence that made her corrupt, like a politician does. so she returns in gow3 being a greedy person, from a selfless person she turned into a selfish one. and yes she did take part in capturing Deimos, which was ordered by Zeus to protect Olympus. but she also had some regrets in doing so as she says "forgive me" and it wasn't a facade because she says "forgive me brother" even when he wasn't looking and hearing her. besides she did lie to him that his brother is dead, but you will do the same while being in her position. You have to protect Olympus from the marked warrior, its not like she didn't care for Kratos. She could have told him the truth, get better in his eyes. But lying sometimes is better than telling the truth.

@HitmanHimself having regrets, and tasked by zeus to take part isnt an excuse from being slimy. Would atreus do this to kratos? No. Would freya do it? No. And your excuse that kratos was gonna die anyways doesn't change the fact that she left her brother to bleed out and valued power over family. Athena was selfish and wanted control. Has god of war 3 taught you nothing?
