Two boilerplates, for starters. First, the usual cop out, "I was drunk." Absolves one of any responsibility for careless regard for one's safety, right? And second, "I didn't report it (the felony) because no one would've believed me." What? First of all, under what circumstances was a respected cadet "drunk" in the first place? Look, West Point isn't exactly a saloon, is it? A highly respected institution of higher learning. right? And two, just why wouldn't any believe the allegation of felony lodged by a student of a respected institution of higher learning? I don't think West Point has a reputation for tolerance of liars or the production thereof. Then, too, I don't know of any law enforcement agency that would tell an applicant, "I don't believe you." That's not law enforcement's job. Their job is to INVESTIGATE. So this business about I didn't think anyone would believe me is not only stale but tiresome. Look, this matter is serious for both. And someone's career is on the line. So let justice -- due diligence -- prevail in this highly suspect matter.

horseygurl143 Look, at worst, if you want to call it that, the act was sexual, one that she might have had voluntarily with someone else. So he didn't kill her, did he? And I might add, as a former court clerk, I've listened to some horrifying stories, several including murder, while m'lady was "unconscious." Isn't it interesting that almost all the "victims" claim to have "woken up" in the sexual clutches of the "perp." Suspect. But more importantly, she survived what is nothing more than a sex act. We don't normally equate a sex act with murder. horsey...these "allegations" stink to high heavens. As for his wife, this is an episode that took place years ago -- 30 -- enough time to let go. Besides, he was up for general, meaning he had a lot going for him. So he wasn't Willie Horton, was he? It is long time to move on!

I believe her. Being a female cadet in the 1980s at any military academy was a terribly hard and isolating experience. The Army also did not have a sharp program or any appropriate venue to report sexual assault - there were no victim advocates. And as a very young woman (basically a teenager), it is not fair to expect her to calmly and rationally report an attack like that. But she clearly remembered it for decades after. Keep in mind that there is no gain for her to mention it now.
