Saw another special of this, and the worst part of it all, for me, was how they manipulated the son. He was grieving the loss of the man he called his father, then in comes another man who was was so similar he thought it was the same person (because it was) and they literally manipulate the poor kind into thinking it is someone else. As a parent of an almost 4 year old, I cannot fathom such cruelty or imagine the psychological struggle that is at that age.

I saw this story on a true crime show a number of years ago. They interviewed one of the police investigators, and when they told her that the idea for the crime came from an episode of CSI, she responded, “did y’all never watch the end of that show??” I guess they hadn’t figured out that the scheme didn’t work on the TV show either.

The jail wasn't the only punishment, he would have had to register as a sex offender, and that's usually for life. So he would never be able to pick up his kids at school, rent an apartment, have a regular job, he would either have to go homeless, or live vicariously through his wife. so he didn't have any real good options.
