I 1000% understand Ila, some days I can wear tight things such as a tank top, others that same tank top will feel like another layer of skin suffocating me and it induces an anxiety like no other, it makes me feel like I want to take my own skin off. And if I can’t take off the item of clothing off (say I start to feel uncomfortable in a tank top and sweater while driving) that feeling gets so bad, it really can be unbearable!

Shooting the shit. I love you LeeAnn. And my late mom's name is LeAnne. So it's comforting when I hear you. You're smart and warm and real just like her. Love you guys. And Bert is crazy but lovely at the same time, you're extremely strong to be able to take all of what you take on daily. I hope one day you can relax and they give back all that you have given.

My favourite podcast! Love you & Ila! So grateful to have heard Ila speak on her sensory thoughts. Since the age of 4, I've had similar feelings. Couldn't relate MORE to the socks/shoes/bras!! If it helps, I'm now 24, and the physical intensity and panic of it has passed. It eventually calmed after schooling was done, once I started to gain a lot more on my plate to be consumed by, having things to attend to, discovering who I was, more things I loved, healthy every day worries - just growing into yourself. It may make an appearance if I haven't got too much going on or feeling low from lack of sleep. Ila, you are one incredibly bright person! So much spunk and personality to you, one of a kind. It was a breath of fresh air hearing you talk. Loved it! :-)

This was such a great podcast. I’ve suffered from Sensory problems for as long as I can remember. My mom was at a loss for a long time when I was a child because she couldn’t figure out why I was always crying and in so much distress all of the time. I’ve never been good at putting the panic that I feel in those moments into words and Ila described it SO perfectly. I got misty eyed because I’ve really never met or seen anyone talk about sensory issues so this podcast really made me feel not so alone. Thank you guys so much for speaking about this!

I love watching when your girls are on. My mom and i were close, but she passed several years ago when i was in my mid 30s, and my son was young. You and the girls relationship reminds me of mine and my moms. When your young i think its taken more for granted, and man, to have had her in the last 8 years as my son has grown, and life changes have happened. Even down to the small things. Its so nice to watch y'all. I could listen all day. You are a great mom, and have a couple of beautiful, smart, and kind young ladies.

PLEASE PLEASE look into autism and/or ADHD for both Bert and Ila! I'm late-diagnosed autistic/ADHD and work with adults on the spectrum. I didn't get diagnosed until I was 25 and never even considered them before I learned about what different presentations may look like as compared to the stereotypes. The sensory processing, attention issues, learning disabilities, interest in psychology, synesthesia, anxiety, "marching to the beat of your own drum," etc. discussed in this and other podcasts with them stand out so much to me. There is a huge community on TikTok dedicated to better understanding and missed diagnosis! You all are so much fun to listen to and such a relatable family! Thanks for the content 🥰

Could the "please don't go please don't go" song Ila was talking about be Fitzpleasure by Alt-J? Great song! Love seeing how much Ila has matured and her vocabulary is amazing! You're raising your girls right! 🙌 Also WOW. When she explained the putting on the shoes. To me that's exactly what my sensory processing feels like. It almost hurts and feels sort of like an electric pain&shock but this happens to me with soft/light touch and sensations. So i need firm touch, textures that don't slip/slide/tickle, and my shoes, ponytail, and jeans always have to be really tight/snug or else i can't function. I'm so glad she's able to verbalize and explain these feelings so well too. It took me most of my 26 years of life to figure out and put words to what i had been struggling with.

I don't know if it will help, but when I was a teenager if I washed my face everyday I would get more acne. Now I'm a guy, not a doctor, just saying what helped me. I would rinse my face with warm water, usually and if I used soap I wouldn't use a washcloth and I would be very very gentle. Also I was fortunate to not have too much acne but washing with harsh soaps and cloths would definitely make me breakout in like 3 or 4 pimples. Again I would typically just warm rinse my face, gentle rubbing, and not overly rub my face, and if I did use soap, (maybe once or twice a week) I would be so gentle, no cloth. Just suds and hands. Also I would use cool water, I live in Texas so I took a lot of cool-cold showers. And I would pat my face dry or let my face dry naturally with air. Anyways, hope this helps.

Haha as soon as y'all talked about Alanis Morissette (not sure on spelling), I was gonna say Ila should check out Cornflake Girl by Tori Amos and I came down here to type it and of course the queen/goddess herself started talking about it. Florence and the Machine does a great cover of Cornflake Girl as well. The live versions of Tori Amos are better because she's making love to that piano. It's electrifying to watch and hear her just make love to those keys. Y'all should check out Beth Hart. I was introduced to her as a teenager by my blues and classic rock loving dad and she's been one of my favorite lullabies since I was 12. This was such a sweet podcast ❤️ y'all are amazing
@brianabella1153 жыл бұрын
P.S. Cornflakes were invented by a doctor in the late 19th/early 20th century to prevent people from having sexual thoughts and a desire to masturbate. The doctor believed that bland foods would take away sexual desire. I don't think that's what the song is about, but it takes on a whole new meaning when you think of it that way. Especially as she's making love to those keys.

Make sure Ila knows that if she's going to be vegan long term she will need to supplement for vitamin D and B12, or eat enough vegan foods that are fortified with those. You also have to be aware of getting enough calcium, omega 3s and Iodine. From a fellow vegan :)
@brianabella1153 жыл бұрын
Yes! And IRON. Especially as a young woman. You can get some kickass prenatal once a day vitamins from Garden of Life that are vegan, gluten free, and made from real foods. Most women don't know this, but you can take prenatals at anytime. It's basically a vitamin with biotin and iron added so it strengthens your hair and nails and helps your skin as well. These vitamins are pricey, but they're the best and Ila is worth it 😻
