It's about the conflict that goes on since 2014 when Russia annexed Crimea and fueled the separatist movement in eastern Ukraine. Jinjer is from Horlivka, a city within the occupied Donetsk Oblast in the Donbass region. When the war came to them they decided to flee their homes, in order to continue to make music and were basically on tour ever since, just to make ends meet. Pretty sure the tea party scene is heavily inspired by Alice in Wonderland.

Isolated bodies in a boudoir of helplessness. A bullet is an early bird, a midnight owl. Our beds are cold, As cold as basement floor. This house is not our shelter anymore. Anymore. Home is not a building, Home is liberty. A place where memories live In prosperity and peace. I came back home so I want my home back, Don't you leave us homeless!

Great reaction! Sorry if it bummed you out, but I love it because of how impactful and real it is. From what I know I believe this song is inspired from the 2014 invasion of Crimea that destroyed Donetsk in Eastern Ukraine...Jinjer's home town. On top of all that is how well thought out this video is and how it ties in to the lyrics so well. From the wrecked buildings to the knocked out communications to the chaff from an airfighter which actually does resemble an angel when deployed. The changeup to a scene of Tatiana dressed as a little girl playing tea party with her dolls (straw stuffed burlap) unaware of what's about to happen (yet portrayed in a purposely creepy way) then showing the aftermath and the explosion of nearly incomprehensible rage to close the song. This song has been in my Jinjer top 5 pretty much from first listen a year ago and this video as #1.

Donetsk was not destroyed, it is still not destroyed and almost unscathed. Because it was occupied by Russian troops. But the suburbs of Donetsk, where the Ukrainian troops were stationed, were completely destroyed. (Peski, Airport, etc.). Because the Ukrainian army doesn't shoot at its cities.

Not only does it resemble an angel, but that airfighter in particular is actually called The Angel of Death.

Unfortunately, but understandably, not many people in the west realise that the current conflict is basically a continuation of the Russian invasion in 2014 when they annexed Crimea. After that two regions in the east (around the major cities of Donetsk and Luhansk) were under the control of separatists fully backed and and supplied by Russia (as well as recognised as indepent countries by Russia) and there has been a active (though low intensity) war in that area ever since then (obviously these days the war is anything but low intensity). The pre-text Russia started for this full on war was to protect those two areas from ukraine to protect them from Ukrainian ' nazi's' (as with all Russian propaganda there's a small kernel of truth in that, though it has been twisted beyond anything resembling the truth, I am not going to explain here, ' cause it's complex and would require a full essay and this post is long enough as it is, feel free to dm me if you are interested in that kinda thing). Tati, Roman and Eugene are from that area (A city called Gorlovka or Horlivka, spelling varies in the Latin alphabet) and in 2014 they had to choose to flee their homes and continue there music careers or staying. They fled, first to Lviv, later relocating to Kyiv. Tatiana wrote the lyrics from a child's perspective watching war roll into their homes one day. In my opinion it's one of the most potent modern anti-war songs out there. It focuses on those who suffer, the civilian population, it's not about the rights or wrongs of the war, not political in that sense, but sharing the sheer horror it is forn an innocent civilian getting caught up in it ( It is political in that sense). And unfortunately this song is needed now more than ever.

The war activities since 2014 to 2022 had different intensity. In 2014 and 2015 intensity was pretty high as well as at some other periods. In 2019-2020 it was quite low. In overall according to United Nations statistics since 2014 to 2021 there were up to 15000 death casualties, including approx 3400 civilians. By the way UN counted almost the same civilian casualties since Fabruary 2022.

They wrote this song about the fighting that broke out in 2014 when russia took over Crimea. There was alot of fighting then in eastern Ukraine where Eugene, Roman and Tatiana are from. russian seperatists have continued fighting in eastern Ukraine since 2014. When they recorded this song they had no idea that what is going on now would be going on.

I have shed a tear or two listening to this song, because it was, and still is a very heartfelt, and powerful message from the band. In 2014 Russia took over Jinjer's home region, and Tatiana, and the guys were forced to flee to Kiev , so this song was written about that horrible experience.

God I love this song! So heavy, sonically and emotionally. Easily one of their best songs without a doubt. I believe they wrote it after 2014 when their home town was attacked. I’m sure that’s it but dont quote me lol.

People always get blown away with the talent of the band and Tatiana's vocals but what often gets overlooked is just how good Tatiana's lyrics are. This song is their first refugee experience imagined through the eyes of an innocent child. Much of Jinjer's work hit themes most other bands don't explore. I recommend reacting to " No hoard of Value" lyric video

There has been a civil war ongoing in Donbass since 2014. They had to flee the region for western Ukraine Lviv, then Kiev. I am not sure if any of them have had the opportunity to see their relatives since then. There is a song called Retrospection talking about the love their parents gave them during their childhood and how they feel homesick now.

There is a channel on KZbin that shows home movies of Jinjer from way way back around the time this was inspired and it shows their rehearsal space/home riddled with bullets , Tatiana has said in interviews there was a time when all they had to eat was their fingernails, they ate barley for food and their home town was under siege so they fled west

This song is about a similar situation in 2014 but nowhere near as bad as the current conflict which involved their home in Eastern Ukraine when Russia took the territory of Crimea from Ukraine. The same areas are now embroiled in the current war. The band is from the Donensk area which is where the heaviest fighting is in the current war.

Also there is some worry among fans that this pause they are on can't go on forever. Tatiana and her husband Alex have to eat after all and nobody knows when this ends. Whether that means she goes off to do another project and comes back or just leaves the band nobody knows. There is no way to know how long this will go on.

@@coder4liberty The other side of this is Tatiana used to have a lot going on musically until the 2014 invasion when they had to leave home and throw everything into the success of Jinjer. Jinjer was band #8 for her and she had a side project latin band after joining Jinjer. So it would probably be good for her to do some kind of side project and Alex just quit Suicide Silence to work on other things. And he's a multi instrumentalist at least drummer and guitar player. Also Eugene posted a video clip playing his bass and the caption suggested a title or lyric like "I'm happy to disappoint you when I don't fall down." Which seems applicable to the war where most including apparently Putin assumed it would be over in days.

I believe the "burlap bag scene" illustrates the dogs of war and, the rabbit the innocent civilians trapped in the midst of the conflict. *Note the tag on the rabbit's ear... It seems to be indicative of the way the civilians are monitored and tracked.

There is also an old fable about a dog and a rabbit that lives together in a forest and a tiger intrudes their area. The rabbit sees him, gets scared and goes to the dog to tell him that the tiger is around. The scared rabbit asks the brave dog to teach him a trick to escape the tiger, but the dog dismisses the rabbit, deeming him too stupid to learn the trick. The rabbit then tells the dog, "use your trick and I'll use mine to escape and when the tiger leaves we will meet again" - the tiger comes and the dog runs away, but gets chased and killed by the tiger. The rabbit runs down a rabbit hole and hides until the tiger is gone. It's a fable about sharing and communication with loved ones in times of uncertainty or danger

what I can say with certainty is that I was an American rightwinger who believed wholeheartedly in the invasion of Iraq. Yes WMDs was phony but even then the reasons for the invasion were far more complex than "war for oil." But none of that remotely justifies the suffering America's invasion inflicted upon the people of Iraq. None of that justifies how our invasion destabilized the region. Killing people for political ends is objectively evil. Nothing ever justifies an elective war of aggression on the soil of another nation. In supporting America's war, I was embracing evil. Anyone who supports a war against the land or people of another nation is embracing evil. At the same time defense is vital because if nations fail to defend their land and people, evildoers will be encouraged to commit the evil of elective war.

Even though this was written about the chronic fighting with Russian-backed separatists in their homeland of the Donetsk region in Eastern Ukraine, the meaning and impact of the lyrics and visuals obviously has exponentially increased since Putin's brutal and illegal all-out invasion of the country. I don't think anyone can know everything about this conflict right now. Each side has its own beliefs and all sweeps aside other people's arguments. Everyone chose their TV, their blogger, their narrow experience situation ... and then broadcasts it to everyone as a fact of truth. Facts are something that we can know for sure and analyze, but get into other people's heads and know exactly what they are up to ... this is hardly possible, given the scale and general aggression it can be said for sure that global human forces are behind this, and not just one or two people. Personally, I hate all the politicians of today, as none of them could prevent this. and more... if you discover any side of the mood not for the world ... and there is not even a desire to seek peace ... everything is only when you find words about honor, peace and everything ... but in reality ...some set them on fire and bring weapons by plane and say kill them all! Others are reluctant to even try to find convenient solutions for stalking with neighbors. Thirds are too stubborn and too unsophisticated to manage a large country with great difficulties in our time, especially when they play against it on a large scale. Think about it, two countries that once lived in the same country speak almost the same language, have a common culture, common business, and so on ... suddenly become enemies. How is this possible ? I think it’s obvious that this is not the choice of people, it doesn’t support this situation ... not in one direction, not in the other ... But someone really needs it, and in each side they give a machine gun and say go there your enemy... The most terrible and stupid thing is that after so much time it is slowly becoming the choice of ordinary people ... It turns out that the one who conceived this copes well with this ... and how does he live in the world? you can also choose your truth in this... where you will be told who to love and who to hate. peace, love and harmony ps/ if you are interested check it out. parsing another jinjer clip. It's still the same situation, but within society in industrial production. The Donbas is the name of the thin region along the east of Ukraine. In 2014, Ukraine elected a president who was friendly with Russia. The people living in the Donbas liked this, because most of them speak Russian and have relatives living in Russia. Many are also ethnic Jews. However, people in the western part of Ukraine hated that a pro Russian president had been elected. These are the descendants of the people who had allied themselves with Nazi Germany during Hitler's invasion of Russia. There are still actual, literal Nazis living there and embedded within their military. Still, everything would have settled down had the United States not gotten involved. Of course, the US effin everything up again. Certain people in Washington did not fancy to Ukraine electing a pro Russian president, so senators Lindsey Graham and John McCain flew over there and met with leaders in western Ukraine. They promised weapons and money to these Ukrainians in return for carrying out a coup to oust the new president. In 2015, with financial backing from Western Europe and the US, western Ukraine and their Nazi allies invaded the Donbas and drove out the newly elected president. Folks in the Donbas did not cotton to this, and so civil war erupted. Meanwhile, Russia came down to have a looky see. Western Ukraine forces retreated back into their territory, but for the next seven years they committed themselves to a campaign of terrorism. They routinely shell buildings in the Donbas indescriminantly, killing civilians and terrifying everyone. Finally, Russia had enough and sent 100,000 troops into Ukraine. And that's where the situation finds itself today. Tatiana is from the Donbas region. She and Eugene got into some trouble a few years ago after appearing on a Ukrainian podcast show. Tatiana and Eugene were accused of being sympathetic to Russia, because their native tongue is Russian and because they admitted to having a good childhood back when the Soviets were still in power. This is what their song "Disclosure" is about. It's Tatiana's response to that podcast host.

"The moral arc of the universe is long but it bends toward justice." Any political goal can be worked toward with patience and non-violence. There is never an excuse for killing people for political goals. Killing people for political goals is always evil. Political killing is also always counterproductive because it is unjust and drives the moral arc of the universe against you. I say that as one who supported my own nations evil and learned the hard way to my shame that I was guilty of evil for doing so. No excuse. Never again.
