They have done what great poets and authors, musicians had done for generations, capturing raw emotion, frustration and anger and put it in music and placed the experience as seen through the eyes of a child. I think the song is a work of art worthy of a Grammy award.

It's their first refugee experience imagined through the eyes of a child. The three straw figures at the tea party are characters from a children's folk tale. If one reads the lyrics, it is quite emotional. Good reaction.

That sound is hard to do. She has to create resonances in her whole vocal system. In fact it probably vibrates her whole head. The other part is rolling your tongue backward and keeping your mouth as closed at possible while still forming the words. Imagine talking to someone that way with just normal voice and you get the idea. During the lyric "I came back home so I want my home back" you can hear the air rushing past her barely open lips as she forms the words while keeping her mouth almost closed. The conflict in Ukraine is traumatizing for most Ukrainians but the band is from an area that is and has been on the front line since 2014. Tatiana's home town is just a few hundred meters from the front line. All of them grew up during the transition from the Soviet Union to Ukrainian independence and all the members are ethnic Russians which means they have both Russian and Ukrainian friends and get caught up in that conflict no matter what they try to do to just play their music and go on with their lives. I don't know how closely they follow all of it. When I got my VIP ticket in 2022 to meet them their manager told everyone waiting in line not to mention the subject with them. I'm guessing they try not to think about it too heavily. They do raise money for Ukraine. One of the things they did was get a music school north of Kyiv that was destroyed by a Russian missile attack rebuilt with a new building and everything it needed. The male members were stuck n Ukraine for a few months when the current conflict started and worked in the shelters helping people.

this song had me f'd up for a whole week after the first time i heard it. before this one, i hadn't really paid them much attention -- but now they've had my full attention ever since. _No Hoard of Value_ is another one where you can feel the immense love and heartache _oozing_ through every note (though, the imagery in the video doesn't hurt 😆😉). obviously different subject matter, but no less powerful imho.

Totally agree with you. 'No Hoard of Value' is one of several Jinjer's songs that make my eyes wet for some reason.

Many people don't know, or forget, that the invasion was over a decade ago now. Even though this came out well after the original Russia-Ukraine conflict, the words are what Jinjer felt and experienced in 2014 when it started. Jinjer keepin' it real. Keep on flowing the Jinjer rabbit hole, how much of their early stuff have you done? Scissors? Exposed as A Liar? Waltz? Destroy?

This song is such a punch to the gut, I love it! Tati's vocals go so deep in the growl that the first time I heard it, even though I have been listening to women do this vocal technique for over 30 years, I could not believe my ears. I don't know how anyone could listen to this and not FEEL their anger. I don't blame them one bit. They may never be able to go back home... imagine that.

6:20 now this is just my interpretation, but the feeling I get from this is the sudden and violent loss of childhood innocence. As in being a kid, playing with stuffed animals and having imaginary tea parties as kids tend to do, and then suddenly and unexpectedly going from that to hiding in the basement because bombs, missiles and artillery shells are falling all around.

Good reaction. This is such a brutal song and yet, as always, it grooves because it's Jinjer. This singes live and was one of my favorite moments of their set in September 2023. At 46:18 of the Hellfest 2021 concert below, she launches into that insane "anymooooorre...yah!" scream kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4bVYauAYseBorMfeature=shared FYI, Jinjer and Napalm just dropped the second video from their upcoming Live in Los Angeles DVD. It's Pisces and a great live version at that. Cheers.

I love how she sticks out her tongue after "A place where memories live!". I also love how after the brutal banshee scream near the end of "Sit, Stay, Roll Over" leads into the end of the cacophony of that song followed by silence, and she says in the cutest little voice "*That* was intense!".

The song still applies today, but it was written about the fighting in 2014, when their home territory was annexed by Russia. They still have family in Ukraine that they haven't been able to visit. From the 2019 album, Macro. And you thought she got low in Vortex ,lol. What's next for Jinjer? Try an older song, music video for "I Speak Astronomy".

The song originally is about the 2014 annexation of Crimea, and band members had family in the region at the time. Currently, obviously, things are changing a TON - but this song hits home harder than it did for the 2014 crisis.

Though this song fits in with the present, it's actually written about the fighting that took place after the Maidan Square massacre in Kiev 2014. This has been going on in the Donbas region (where they are from...Donetsk) for over a decade. I love the mixed measure timing. Really give a sense of instability and chaos. Jumps from 4/4 to 5/4 to 3/4 to 2/4 to 8/4 to 7/4...

We have a lot of anti-war media from soldiers. But it's much rarer that we get anti-war media from the millions of ordinary people caught in the middle of every war in their own words and via the medium of their own work instead of someone else's agenda. That makes this song important not just for this war but for our understanding of the human experience.

Just found your channel via The Warning reactions and see that you have also covered another of my personal favorites, so apologies for a late comment. The look on your face as Tati kept dropping to octaves unimaginable going into the final breakdown...Jinjer is special. I loved Eugene's slides as Roman played his chunky riffs. While Dmitry Kim is a solid drummer, adding Vlad behind the kit brought them next level. Their ability to transition and have sections make sense isn't done by many as well as Jinjer pulls it off.

the war they had to flee from started over 10 years ago and is the same war that is going on today as they are from the eastern parts of ukraine so it doesn't start in 2022 but in 2014 the war they are fighting today (but it was extended in 2022 to the whole country)

It is a sensitive subject largely due to the convoluted politics and loyalties that led to this war. This came out a couple years before Russia invaded so the violence portrayed is largely Ukrainian on Ukrainian. They are lucky, especially as Russian speakers from the Donetsk region, to be granted ambassadorships to be able to tour outside the country. Other Ukrainian bands like IGNEA are not so fortunate so I hope their members don't get drafted.
