The reason why everyone recommends "Ghost Love Score" as a first song is because its an epic song with great vocals but not as hard as other songs, which are usually a bit harder to digest for a "non-metal" audience.

I have been a metalhead for decades. Really got into grunge as well. I had seen the name Nightwish over the years but had never listened to them for some reason. I remember a few goth kids in my last years of school got into them in the late 90´s. After discovering Nightwish early this year, I can say without doubt, Nightwish is the most rewarding rabbit hole in music that I have ever come across. They have so many sounds and styles. Super interesting musical compositions and lyrics that touch my soul. Floor Jansen as lead vocalist is so incredible in her performance. The beauty ,power and her ability to evoke emotion in her performances is simply unparalleled. Pure magic. Enjoy the journey!

Haha..Pantera is one of Floor's favorite bands as it is for her husband Hannes (drummer of Sabaton)! They met while both on tour in the US (Floor with her previous band After Forever and Hannes with Sabaton), Hannes in his dressingroom listening to Pantera and drinking a whisky and Floor coming in asking him if he would like to share a cigar!!!! Thát for Hannes was it...an opera singer , loving whisky ánd cigars...she will be my wife!😍😂 Do you perhaps like something with a Celtic vibe and not so opera-ish..check out "I Want My Tears Back" Live Buenos Aires 2019(2018). The greatest thing about Nightwish (aside from Floor obviously) is that their music and songs are so diverse that they have a little something for everybody. Besides let call a spade a spade, most of us Americans are not cultured enough to truly grasp the beauty and majesty of some songs like Ghost Love Score. Of course this is what happens when we become full of ourselves and forget that there is actually a world outside our little bubble.

Ghost Love Score is basically the gateway drug. It has a little bit of almost everything, just several small nibbles of what Nightwish is capable of. They are a Metal band, but they love ALL KINDS of music. They do Folk music. They do Celtic stuff, they do stuff from almost all over Europe. The only thing I can think of that they have not done is rap. Considering that Floor is not only classically trained in vocals (she can be sort-of operatic), AND she can do the metal growl, it would not surprise me if she found out that she can rap, too. She's MADE of music. Nightwish have completely re-imagined songs, not really doing what we normally think as covers; Tuomas re-arranged Phantom of the Opera and the original vocalist, Tarja, sang it along with the Bassist, Marko (the tall blonde viking with the split beard) and he has vocals for days! Nightwish also did a Metal re-imagining of Pink Floyd's song High Hopes for the same concert; Marko sang that while Tarja was backstage changing clothes. :)

The best song to check out Floor on Beste Zangers (Best Singers) is Vilja Lied sung in German with a little Metal sauce poured on it. The Beste Zanger TV show has a half dozen of the best Dutch singers on it each season. Each week they put one person on the center couch with the rest on side couches. Then each singer will sing a song either created by the center couch singer or a song that means something to them. Floor sang the first song for the first week to opera singer Henk Poorte. Henk's Mother sang it to his Father many times. Only one singer knew of Floor. The rest only knew her as a Metal singer and were not expecting their first Floorgasm. OK, if I can just add a tiny bit to help you out some, "Ghost Love" is great but in reality, it's basically meant as an introduction as to the band's skills, ability, tightness, energy, range, and overall performance. As you'll see they Excell in all forms be it production numbers like that as well as folk, rock, ballad, pop, and metal which are each wonderful and unique from each other and will enhance your wonderful journey into Nightwish.

Hello Spouse. I have some info on Floor Jansen for you here. She is married to Hannes Van Dahl, drummer of the Swedish power metal band Sabaton. Together they have a daughter. ( Freja ) Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6). Re-singing style ranges from opera to screams and grunts. She usually sings in English, in addition she has also sung songs in Dutch, German, Spanish, Finnish, Latin, Italian and Swedish. Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016. From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour. On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Greetings. Keep in mind Nightwish has been working with Pip Williams and the London Philharmonic Orchestra since their very first album back in 1997. They also work with London's The Metro Voices and the Young Children's Choir. The keyboard player and founder, Tuomas, records a demo of the songs with his parts and lets Pip do his magic with the rest. I would like to invite you to do some reactions of floor outside this element. She participated in a Dutch reality TV show called "Beste Zangers" or Best Singers for the 2019 season. 7 artists sing each other's songs or a random song that has a special meaning as that is the nature of the show, but they put their own touch to them. Some titles Floor chose are; Winner, Shallow, and Phantom of the Opera, among others. You may also want to do some reactions to the cover songs she recorded on her channel... "Let It Go" from Disney's Frozen "Alone" by I Ten "Adagio" by Lara Fabian "Into The Unknown" from Disney's Frozen II "Oblivion" by M83 and "Ave Maria" to name a few. Yep, Ghost Love Score, while a decent song, is never my entry into what Nightwish is recommendation. I appreciate GLS for what it is but I doubt it would make my greatest hits of Nightwish album, while Storytime 100% would make my short list of first class songs, it is superb. If you want to try another 7 Days to the Wolves is also, for my money, exceptional.

Maybe Song of Myself next at same concert, Wacken 2013. All 15 songs are great. This is the same concert in front of 82,000 as Ghost Love Score. Floor's performances on Beste Zangers are superb. Shallow amazing. Not a competition but 7 singers singing songs to each in turn that mean something. Floor brings some to tears with their own songs because she is so empathic and of course talented. Sings songs in Spanish, German, Dutch and English there. Also has sung in Italian, O Mio Babbino Caro and Finnish at Xmas concert plus speaks Swedish as now living there with husband, drummer of Sabaton.

Floor sings solo covers from many different genres for other Dutch singers. It is not a competition like we have in America. Don't know if your husband will like it. It really focuses on Floor's vocal ability. It is not about heavy metal.

You do realize that the overwhelming majority of people LOVE "Ghost Love Score". It is an epic piece of music with heavier instrumental music and very melodic singing without being overly heavy for folks that are not into the extremely heavy metal. There is more to music that just ear bending sound waves with growling and screaming. Although Nightwish does have some screaming and growling in their music it is much more complicated than just those two elements. And yes they do use all the regular band instruments plus a whole symphony of others as well as choirs. Storytime is a great song as well and seems to be more to your liking so I'm thinking you should probably stick to the shorter songs and let your wife take on the longer pieces. The other two epic pieces from Nightwish are "The Greatest Show On Earth" and "The Poet and The Pendulem" which if "Ghost Love Score" was too long for you then you should know that these other epic pieces are even longer but are musical masterpieces. Good luck with the video reactions but understand that music for many people is more than just mindless ear candy. I look forward to more of your reactions.

Just to give you a little bit intro to Beste Zangers 2019: It’s not a competition, they gather some of Netherlands best singers and every episode is dedicated to one of them. In each specific episode the rest has to sing a song written or related to the dedicated singer. At the end of each episode, the dedicated singer chooses which interpretation he/she liked the most for whatever reason. So for example, episode 4 was dedicated to Floor. All of Floor’s interpretations were outstanding and quite different from what most fans are used to hear from her. Enjoy!

Hi from the UK, if you want to try some heavier Symphonic Metal then maybe Epica are more to your taste, they are a Dutch band, the lead singer Simone is a very close friend of Floor’s they have appeared on stage together for an Epica gig, try to react to Epica song Consign To Oblivion from the Zenith in Paris, that’s a great one to start with as this band are more symphonic/death metal and much harder than NW, take a risk it might be worth it? 😉

None of the songs from Wacken 2013 were written for Floor, GSL and Romanticide were for the first NW singer and Storytime was for the second singer. The Endless Forms album in 2015 was written for her and started to push Floor's singing ability a bit more.

ghost love score is grand with great instrumentation and it is for m about the intro melodiy that vomes abck later and the big finale plus all her singing because she is showing sooo many different sides in this one. Even though I also like the aggressive ones I m totally down to some grandeur. Storytime is more creepy in the beginning but overall catchy fun song. And with almost all songs I like the bombastic arrangements a lot.

I want to give you two suggestions... Amorphis - Amongst Stars official video and Wintersun - Time live rehearsal at Sonic Pump Studios remastered. Both bands are from Finland and are heavier side, but worth to check for. Please and peace 🙏🏼😎✌🏼 I think Nightwish has been gateway to metal music for many people. It is more mainstream than Slayer or Pantera and still has really deep songs lyricly. Keep safe guys! 😊

Tuomas do not "write songs" he composes stories about nature, humankind, evolution, space etc.. Do not be hasty cause I have been NW fan since 1996 so you have quite a rabbit hole to dive in. There is a Dutch show called Besta Zangers(think it's 2019, but not sure), Floor's appears on this show with her idol(Henk Poort), she used to go watch him perform at The Phantom of the Opera. Henk agrees to do a duo with her of The phantom of the Opera. Henk also does a song for Floor's, he does the band Disturbed's cover of The Sounds of Silence(Floor fangirls so bad). They are continuing I believe and it is interesting in their case as they clearly have quite different music tastes so I think Nightwish is the sort of band that could bring their tastes into the same realm of music albeit through different songs! GLS is not my favourite Nightwish song either and is not a ptatch on the other 2 big 3, really it serves as a showcase of Floor but as a composition it sits at about 32 in my list of Nightwish songs...used to make a great toilet break in the concert though, although they seem to be ending with it lately :D
