Maybe I'm wrong, but I think their son is a little afraid of the father. Being soft and gentle in both speaking and actions, shows a lot of love and care. He's just a child who is still growing, still learning, and now is the time for a father the son feels comfortable being around. Being gentle doesn't mean you're soft or raising a son who is, it means you care, and your child will love you for that.

The girl also finishes eating before his brother so it's like he's telling Aston to be more like her even though he treats them completely different. That's not issue here, the issue is his toxic masculinity. As a latina I know he grew up in the same environment as me, believing men shouldn't feel, men should be strong, boys shouldn't be gentle. As someone with an older brother, I see the path that this father is going, and if he keeps it up, that son will become really resentful. He’s gotta ease up more when he grows up. It’s good he wants to be a strong father. It’s not good to keep that mode on 24/7. Parents need to realize that there can be psyche damage to a child when you’re really displaying favorable treatment towards another sibling too. And he said it himself too, he thinks girls have to be raised with a 'softer mindset' because we're somehow weaker than boys and can't handle the same things they can. I think that single incident says enough but yes he's abusive. Now I'm 22 and he asks me why I don't talk to him, wow, wonder why

As a parent... Don't know if it's a cultural thing (I'm Mexican so can relate to the dude) but I imagine it's probably a universal thing. Image, the way your child behaving is s reflection of your parenting. I can guarantee he wasn't being macho to the extent that it means. He was trying to correct the way his son behaved in the classroom. Paying attention, being focused and participating in the class rather than being distracted. He and his son have language barriers that may hinder effective communication. Being from a multilingual home, I know what it's like to be raised primarily in one language and being taught another at school and while the language taught outside of home is practiced more, it also stunts the primary home language and hinders communication as a child leans into the language their most comfortable in. He's also very direct because it's the most effective way to let the child know that something is important. Doesn't make him a bad father but he and his wife need to get together and talk to his son, communicate the importance of paying attention and why rather than expecting the child to understand with short curt words. He's trying and that shouldn't be discouraged. His wife definitely addressed the situation and they can both work together to improve parent to child communication.

For me, compared to other parents he is way better. The only problem here is that, he needs to be more gentle(?) in his way of speaking and acting towards his son, since he is still a child and still can not understand much of the situation. But when the kid is already in school age (6-12) or maybe when he is 10 years old, his ways of taking care for him would be great. There is no harm on being strict, as long as you do it in a gentle manner. Oh and I also like the way he said that "I don't want you to be the best, I just want you to listen to your teacher" because pressuring your kid at such an early stage is not really helpful.^-^

I don't think his dad is that strict compared to what most Asian fathers. He hasn't raised his voice or hit him. He is caring and takes more afford to be a part of his children's life, feeding them, playing with them. Wish my dad did. One of my sad moments of childhood was when none of my parents ever came to the program while all my friend's did. I would just finish the performance and wait for my uncle to pick me up.

only thing about his dad is that he already has set of stereotypes on how men or boys should act, same as how my parents tells me about how I should act as a girl, while as I understand for my own parents, there was a major cultural and social impact which ig is same for aston's dad too, I don't try to yk argue with my parents, because it doesn't do a shit, they feel superior with all those values, so only thing that could be done was for me to shut up and move on with my life and move away the moment I get and break that cycle myself, I think the mother should often try to talk about this with his dad, and try to make him understand how it might affect his son's thinking or mental health and that men are allowed to be vulnerable. P.S. his dad is not that bad yk I have seen worse sooo yeahh...... including my dad.

If you will constantly say to your son that he needs to be the best (in class, in study), it’ll give him too much pressure, it’s not right. You can’t pressure him like that, you can’t make your kid become a person who will pursue your dreams, they need to have their own.

The son looks scared. I get that you want to raise a strong kid but your method is wrong. The son just looks uncomfortable around him. He thinks of what he wants to say before saying it because he's scared the dad will scold him Don't let that boy grow up that way because he will have a certain amount of hatred for you. One day, your son will also throw you into a nursing home because you are A STRONG MAN.

I think the father feels very pressured to deliver and he wants so hard not to fail or make a mistake that he is putting so much pressure on his child. I totally get him. I felt very lost when i was confronted to be a foreigner and a parent at the same time, a lot of insecurities appeared, I did not have them when I was alone (just a foreigner). For example: Like do not knowing traditions, songs, costumes and not spoken behaviours which you should somehow teach your children. You feel like you have no references and one tries to dig deep to the past, to reach your center where you knew how it was when you were a child, but all is different and sometimes things just do not match. I feel that by being the dad and having the traditional view of a father, like the one who provides and protects, makes him feel very uncomfortable as he is in the "week" position by not knowing the language, he is giving his best and is not giving up the role of being the father and rase his children. I hope he can relax as he us doing well. Love should be first, all the rest will come. Children are smart and if they feel loved and secure, they will make it despite the circumstances
@alexss36612 жыл бұрын
He's a great dad, he's even better than most fathers in Latin America and I say this as a Hispanic woman, but being too soft and permissive with his daughter is not good either. There should be a balance. The daughter seems to be more calm but that doesn't mean she won't throw a tantrum anytime or become rebellious. Once she hits puberty and if he keeps behaving like that he'll see the consequences of being 0 strict with her. Both extremes are not good. A parent shouldn't be too soft and caring or too strict. There needs to be a balance for both kids and he should treat them the same way regardless of the gender.

A lot of people in the comment have obviously not done any study of child psychology… it doesn’t matter how the father is brought up… it’s the fact that you can see how his kid is almost pushing himself away from him… like he fears his dad… it’s obvious his intentions are good and he means well but his wife is only telling him to use his words more wisely so it wouldn’t impact their baby boy so much… and also I admire how much he actually is involved with his children bcs I never got that growing up but his ideology between gender roles really needs to be re-evaluated…
@edelleaugustine22652 жыл бұрын
The son looks so tired and pressured. The father must treat him nicely or else the kid could grow broken. He either end up "macho" or not but still broken inside. Even if the father tells him words like he doesn't have to be the best, he just needs to do his part, the father's action/treatment toward his son doesn't justify those words. As we all know, action speaks louder than words. Also, as I've noticed, in this generation of kids, the more controlling you are to them, the more they won't listen and the more they lose their respect to you. So that is why maybe when the father tried to call his son nicely, he said the kid won't listen because he already formed his image of being "macho" to his kid that even if the father changed the way he speaks to his son, his ( the kid's) perception of him has already solidified by the years of his "macho" treatment.

I think this father has the right method to raised his child, to me i would love father like this, who ask me what happen at school, give attention, and this is really wise, i hope his child talented and be humble like their father. Actually my father doesnt care about his Child me, my brother, my sister he never ask me what do i do in school, never ask me homework, doesnt care about my report, even he never playing with us, he never cooking for us, so right now we are lost, he never give me advise. The way i grow up, i really insecure and shamed at the same time when my friend tell about her father, i have father but i never looked him like a Hero. My mom feel bad to me, my brother, my sister cause she has husband like that, make me lost way, not happy at all. So i think Aston have a lot thing to tell to his friends about his father, and i hope Aston being a good guy as his father, being positive, and care each other ✨✌️

The father is super serious with his academics and like even when he had to do 30 minutes of exercise as homework he actually made him do it. Like he is only a child. He could have just played what his son wanted to play as a form of exercise. I mean there is nothing wrong with teaching your kids discipline from an early age. But i think he should tone it down. Let his kids loose a lil bit. But anyways he's father is not that bad he'll learn i believe. And everyone has their own way of raising their kids. And honestly we don't even know how he is like in real life maybe its the camera thats making him act more strict? Regardless the kids are very cute ♥️

Honestly I think the kid has attention issues and is a bit difficult to manage. I think the dad is not harsh with his words but because its English it comes off that way perhaps spanish or learning some korean wouldn't hurt. Of course fathers adore their girls alot more than sons doesn't mean they love them more but he is getting older and needs correcting when he isn't paying attention, rolling on the floor when eating dinner and doesn't know his homework. The dad is way better than most parents and people are blowing it out of proportion.
