@@DealUnboxing if you also have an asus du-92 i would like to see how both(ac5300) compare as nodes.....since ive heard of "lesser" non 802.11ax devices bogging down the overall parent connections(aka 1 5ghz band is gated to 802.11ac, then you can put an other to 802.11ax) of the ax11000 to accommodate the node. Which is what i had seen, or that when properly configured even if it wouldnt bottle neck the 802.11ax connection or performance of the ax11000......the nodes connection cannot provide 802.11ax performance/support. Unless said node is 802.11ax capable. Thus the nodes connection could be suitable for 802.11ac devices be it most phones or smart tvs. Which is the largest/most ideal application for a node IMO. To connect weak 802.11ac TV antenna to ethernet ports on nodes. While providing a 802.11ac wifi mesh to the phones of said people viewing tv etc in room. Also projectors

@@anhiirr Appreciate the feedback. I scrapped that review, because mixing AC + AX router with AiMesh was pain in the A&^. It didn't work well for some reason. I even enabled the fast roaming, but still no effect. I don;t know i still have to do some testing.

Thank you for doing a review in a large home! The corporate media only review routers in 1400 sqft condos. Thank you for the tweaks and data. Maybe you could add a simple diagram of the house so we can visualize obstructions and distance. I am going to try this in my 4000 sqft home as my Velop wifi5 and Asus wifi5 mesh are not very stable and slow when connecting to remote node. I watched your orbi ax6000 review but your connection only had 100 Mbps limit, so it wasn't very useful to compare to this, where you consistently had faster speeds. In your compare video you recommended the orbi though. I have 50 wifi devices.

Is that really right? 5000 square feet coverage? I know that number sounds high, but we're talking a circle here, so that's roughly only a 39ft range (radius) from the router. Is this realistic? I ask because it is marketed as "double" coverage over the standard "2500 square feet", but I hadn't really thought about that until now. It SOUNDS like twice as much, but... it's really not. Those routers - yes, the $50 ones he mentions, have about a 28ft range. Why then, are we only seeing an increase of around 1/3 more actual range, if this is accurate? Can anyone confirm this, or provide more info? One would think that with beamforming, and the increased channel separation etc., it would show more increase than that? And, if one were to go with this router, and then a mesh unit as well to expand the range, are we talking the same standard 10-20% overlap that older WDS systems used, or closer than that?
@warmaxxx4 жыл бұрын
when would the right time to pick up a router that does long range at 50-75 range? is that even coming up
@ArtemisKitty4 жыл бұрын
@@warmaxxx Well, I'm no pro tech youtuber myself, BUT I am personally waiting right now, as the new AX protocol is finally ratified and being rolled out to multiple manufacturers, so rather than being stuck with equipment using the AX200 chipset from Intel, we'll start seeing some competitors soon, probably rolling out around November, if history is any indication. I'm personally sitting tight with my older RT-AC2900 for that reason - I saw no point spending another 400 on a router when I KNOW there will be a newer, better, faster one soon. If you were around, you remember the "Draft-N" fiasco, where you'd basically be rolling the dice whether it would fully be 802.11N when it came out? Right now that's about where we are with AX protocol. Give it just another couple months now that we're seeing release announcements, and it should stabilize, which is when we'll see various models coming out, along with reviews of them. If you can wait a month and a half or so, I would highly recommend it, just based on my experience over the past few decades. Just my suggestion, though, as a random voice on the internet who's been doing this way too long, lol.
@keralguy4 жыл бұрын
I cannot get sufficient range in all rooms in my moderately sized 2-Bedroom house - this was the case with all routers I tried. Something funny about all these routers which the manufacturers needs to address is that there isn't full coverage inside my flat at 3rd floor but there is sufficient coverage signal and range in the parking at the ground floor and around the building.

imo it all depends on how many people you are trying to accommodate, do you throw lots of partys/get togethers/ is your area a cellphone provider deadzone etc......is your wifi primarily for your own personal use. To how many rooms do you use/walls are there made of concrete etc as far as needing wifi strength. Office/gaming and main 4k smart tvs/consoles......would be your primary devices. with phones and other non heavy pc users as secondary. Now.......if youre talking upgrading an AC1900....id say go to the ax11000.....bc mesh IMO is for people w/smart home and locks etc. Smart devices where you want to insure a connection, have a NAS or media server and dont want to run a piggy back router or mesh from said ax11000 to nas or etc. Then a mesh option could be less problematic for you. but idk if half of those would apply to you. Plus most people do wind up getting 2 routers anyways with nas setups......in which case you can run an ax11000. with Asus du-92 for full wifi6 mesh support. IJS. Which costs as much as non 802.11ax/wifi6 mesh systems. While having 500+megabit via wireless on a single device. Meaning multiple devices if you have full 960megabit. Which is why i favor the ax11000. Bc you can put it where you game on pcs/laptops......and typically run a lesser asus router or old used one etc. As a node for your console and 4k tv. Which can also power other smart devices and etc. 2.4ghz band doesnt need to be for wifi6 you can just run 802.11ac across the board and connect all the smart devices there with a remote app etc on phone. Just depends on if youre running like wifi locks and security cam systems that record to NAS etc or not and are suiting a more personal use vs largely other use means with your wifi.

Merlin firmware though... it's OpenWRT. Not just "like" OpenWRT, but actual OpenWRT with the modules for all the devices (drivers) already installed and configured. As such, they PROVIDE the drivers in packages, so you can even compile your own OpenWRT build if you like, 100% controlling what goes into your hardware. This is actually one reason I DID choose my last router, the RT-AC2900, and I haven't been disappointed since. It's amazing now that I have it running kubernetes, mqtt, etc all on-board. No more separate raspberry pi to do the basic stuff. Edit: To clarify, what I meant there was that you don't just have Asus support behind you, which yes, you still do, but you then ALSO gain the entire OpenWRT community as well, so you have a lot more options. Sorry, I should have posted that bit first, so the rest would make more sense. :-p

I have a different opinion based on my experience for the past more than 6 months. I have a 500Mbps connection from my Internet Service Providere, but my speed tests for Wifi are not taking me anywhere near that. Direct connection through an Ethernet cable gave good results but that is not the case with WIFI. Again, I tried this router on a Mac (highest configuration in the market with I9 processor) running on Windows and Bootcamp which is my regular laptop. The Network adapter is a Broadcom 802.11ac with a windows driver update as old as 4-Nov-2019. All intel devices at home were given a driver update as per manufacturer suggestion and were working fine. I am having trouble with one mac that I use regularly, another laptop with an AMD processor and all Apple devices including Ipads, which are registering extremely slow speeds - in the range less than 10Mbps for downloads and 200 Mbps for uploads which is confusing. I need a permanent solution and tried broadcom for updated drivers and haven't found any. Solutions implemented in coordination with Apple technicians didn't work and I was asked to contact ASUS who didn't respond to calls and emails. Users are getting cut-off from the internet from different devices during peak usage. By the way, which is the most reliable Internet Speed checking software in the market.

It all depends on your configuration of this Router. If you separate WiFi configured for each band then connect to 5ghz band and test and make sure all your legacy devices are connected to 2.4Ghz band, Also make sure setup 160Mhz channel like i mentioned in the review.
@keralguy4 жыл бұрын
@@DealUnboxing Thanks for the reply. I tried connecting to both bands with no better result for Apple devices. As I am aware, only the new apple devices with M1 processor supports Wifi 6 and my Mac with Intel Processor and Broadcom Network adaptor doesn't support it. Unlike Windows PCs with Intel Processor which were supported by new drivers to support Wifi 6, apple doesn't care about updating the Broadcome Network adaptor driver to support Wifi 6 - I think that that is technically impossible and they are keeping mum on it. What is the way to get out this - can I try some Wifi 6 external adaptor?? - current problem with a Macbook Pro, one AMD laptop, IPads, Ipods etc.

Does anyone make a wired only 1 gig wan with a 10 gig lan router without any wireless? I’m thinking for me I just need 2 ports wired only, 1gig wan, and 10 gig lan and keep all the features of a router. I use a mesh wifi network unrelated to my router like most people. Plus I have multiple wired switched throughout the house, I want a really good router that handles 10 gig lan , but why does everyone include wireless on the router , because most people have to buy a separate wireless mesh network because you need those mesh locations throughout the house, this one does not even include a 10 gig lan , you only get 2.5 gig lan , and I would end up not even using the wireless on the router.

@@DealUnboxing So after trying 2 different Asus routers (AX11000 and AX86u) I am sad to report that they don't perform well in my house. I replaced a Nighthawk C7000 modem router combo which worked great for 3 years. 25 feet away from the router (1400 sqft home) the 5ghz bands barely show up in my list of wifi connections (note 20 ultra and tab s7). I tried contacting Asus support, they were very unhelpful. Never had this problem with the Nighthawk combo.

@@tomacheteful Interesting information. Thanks for sharing.
@tomacheteful4 жыл бұрын
@@DealUnboxing I can only suspect that there is something restrictive (interference or physical barrier) and/or maybe reduced antenna tx power that is preventing these Asus routers from performing well. It's disappointing that the Netgear combo ( less than $200) had much stronger signal along with longer range in spite of any restricting conditions that may exist.
