Miyamoto knew where he was going by trying to implement a virtual resort into the Nintendo mythos. Not only to I consider Isle Delfino from Super Mario Sunshine an early start, I consider it the reason that Wii Sports Resort exists with such a fine tuned, relaxing art style. If only we got many more games focusing around Wuhu Island, because I would love for that to have happened.

When I went to live in a rehab center to learn to walk and move again, they had a Wii with only one game: this one. Bowling was about the only one used as most patients had joint replacements and had to stand up, balance themselves on walkers (yes, even me), bowl and then sit to wait their next turn. The biggest reason I got the Wii was to get better and stronger, to get out of my wheelchair or walker. I asked someone in the games section of Toys R Us if she knew which game would be helpful for rehab that didn't require a lot of balancing. Incredibly, she knew the answer because her mother needed it for the same reason! The game was Wii Sports Resort, btw, but i couldn't afford it. I am so glad to hear that rehab is mentioned! It really is widely used for this reason.

+Ruko Michiharu Wii Sports even got a remake last year on the Wii U, aptly titled Wii Sports Club. Complete with online play, more modes and everything. It has an interesting pricing model, where you can get a $2 day pass to play all the sports for a day, or $10 for each sport. Golf is crazy fun on it.
