Season 1 was pretty much all about parodies of classic S-F tropes and Fry adapting to his new life and old/new job. In season 2 we still have that, but other themes and character arcs are introduced.

The earlier seasons of Futurama were amazing. The first 3-4 episodes of Season 1 were awesome too, especially "I, Roommate." But Season 2 was my favorite. It had episodes like "A Bicyclops Built for Two," "The Deep South" (which I can really relate to because I grew up just north of Atlanta in Forsyth County and went to GSU in downtown Atlanta, so I know the city very well), and "Mother's Day" (my favorite episode of the season).

I’d say they knew Star Trek was a forbidden property.
