@Boobies Booty well like for sabertooth. The powers it said she "copied" was just his super strength/speed. But it was to a lesser extent than his actual strength. Which sounds like shes just using her power to increase her own strength by moving around her mass in such a way that it looks like she can copy powers too. But she cant shes just faking it.

yeah, I heared that the make up process was SUUUUPER rough, so I can understand that she hated that. (I also think 8 hours for make- up every day is just too much to consistently ask of an actress.) I think they also found some ways to shorten the proces by a few hours for the sequals.

It was likely an acceptable grievance before she started the X-Men series because she wasn't famous or particularly noticeable. The problem comes when she wanted to explore other roles and movies(as most actors and actresses do when they "hit it big") 8 hour paint sessions and then spending the rest of that day or more in a row doing that became extremely restrictive on her schedule. Not to condone her actions, but she was in an opportune position to make massive growth in her career and the X-Men movies weren't conducive to that. I personally don't like her that much, but she did some stuff right so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Mystique being Nightcrawler's father is such a great idea, and I'm so glad Claremont came up with it, but sad it never became a reality, because why the hell not! I do like in the past several years now that her and Destiny are officially a couple, acknowledged as bisexual, and were married before Destiny's death. The thing about copying Sabertooth is that her powers can closely replicate, but only to a degree. And Jennifer Lawrence as the best thing for Fox, but also ended up being the worst thing for everyone. Mystique was Fox getting an actress at the start off her meteoric rise, then became WAY TOO important, and with her burned out that it ruined the character's legacy they built up.

Hi Diamond, Imo even that's a bit sketchy. Sure she can make you think she has claws but in reality they'd still be her flesh (or bone if her control is that precise). I think the article meant she can copy basic physical super human traits to a degree. Super strength and speed? Sure but it'd probably still pale in comparison to the original depending on who she's copying. Which I think makes Sabertooth a good example. The funny thing is that professional actors sometimes have the same problems, particularly method actors, of getting so into their character's headspace that the traits of that character end up bleeding back into the actor's persona. Take the dude who played Daredevil and ended up messing up an interview because he kept not looking at people's faces, since the blind character that he'd been playing for so long wouldn't have done so. It takes quite the mental fortitude to be able to shirk a longtime role without lingering aftereffects.

Shes always been slightly superhuman in strength speed and dexterity as well as durability. Shes a weak super strength, but she is indeed super strong compared to a human. She can't copy powers exactly, but she can be creative using her own power and biology knowledge to mimic aspects of certain other people's powers...the power just won't work the same way as the other person. Its just basically rigging it.

Because Norse Mythology wasn't published by a bunch of conservative pricks like Marvel Comics were, which is ironic considering Norse Mythology is a collective of myths that are over a thousand years old. Its the same reason much of Norse Mythology is ignored in Marvel stuff too, in Marvel Comics Loki has only children he fathered, not mothered, so no Slepnir, and in the MCU it doesn't seem he even has children.

On a slight side rant: On her potentially having been a dad: That is a trope I hate with shapeshifters. If they are "dominant": They are a dad. They shapeshift into a man if having kids. If they are "submissive": They are a mom. They stay female/shapeshift into a woman if having kids. And that just strikes me the wrong way. As characters can have other pronouns. My rant was more of a general statement about shapeshifters as a whole. As if you look at shapeshifters (or magic users) in media (both online and "canon") it basically always boils down to the same thing: The most "masculine" character, becomes the "male". And the most feminine becomes the "female". I couldn't find a good list of characters that are shapeshifters+parents. But for example: Monster Girl. She is a tomboy, "hulk smash" character. She shapeshifts into a male to impregnate a female. But has no interest in becoming pregnant herself. Partially seeming as she is "too manly" to do so. If that makes any sense. Or just to use internet ships as an example: If you take any pairing, (canonical or not) people will assign which character "has the penis". And it's the "dominant" character, always. Ex: Marceline and Princess Bubblegum. Marceline is assigned as "the man" in that pairing as PB is more girly. It gets extra stupid if a universe can clone, or has magic to create children. Nope: Still gotta give one of them a dong /S A good example of "this effect" (at least how it affects fandoms) was Pidge from Voltron. The fandom assigned Pidge as a manly man, big dick player. Confident and dominant. Then: Plot twist: Pidge is a GIRL. Fandom went total 180 overnight. Assigned Pidge as a meek, shy and submissive. Insecure and tiny clam. I hope that made any sense. It's like... an elaborate gender stereotype. Except it's applied to genitals instead.

She gains a deeper voice, ergo, she gains testicles. Mimicking fingerprints is far more absurdist then building functional genitalia. Sperm, no doubt, although whether she could produce additional ovum is a bit of a weirder question. The issue is the Y chromosome. Women have two X chromosomes, so presumably all of her sperm would be carrying one X chromosome or the other. So how could Nightcrawler be male? They could do it now. Nobody could stop them. An adorable little blue girl shows up and Mystique is like "fuck".

Okay so something I’ve noticed with these x-men ones is you keep getting annoyed when characters powers become stronger. This was an x-men story arc, basically every mutant got an upgrade through a second stage of their mutation, some mutants gained more control over their powers, others less, some gained cooler powers others gained the ability to hide their powers, I don’t recall how the story ended as I wasn’t ready every x-men book when it happened but eventually most of these characters lost a major part of their upgrades only retaining a bit of their upgraded form in future issues. I believe some mutants still have these upgrades today but most it’s a very minor aspect of the character only brought up when a writer needs it.

I actually like when power set creep is adequately justified. She was willing to risk herself to save someone and gained additional refinement of her existing power set. Now I would disagree with them giving her the ability to become nearly 2D, since she doesn't have the bullshit internal organ explanation that Mr. Fantastic has. But being able to create skin flaps to act as a wingsuit would make total sense. Being able to manipulate her body to the degree she already could would make growing additional appendages like talons or wings fairly trivial by comparison. The only real problem would be the exchange of mass, but she'd already have to cope with that through something akin to a swim bladder in her torso anyway whenever she assumed the form of someone significantly larger than her.

I disagree with the flash getting naked to change for the simple fact that he can phase through objects. I believe he just phases into his suit wearing his day clothes or phases out of one into the other when they are right up against each other thus keeping him hidden.

I wonder if Mystique actually is blue with yellow eyes. Those features may just allow better sight and physical capabilities like shapeshifting, night hunting, the enhanced strength, dexterity, agility and flexibility. So can she replicate metal skin not as complex as adamantium or vibranium? Can she be like Luke Cage or an near exact Colossus?

The thing with copying sabertooth, it seems to me the intent was PHYSICAL abilities, could be copied eg her cells move around and change already so turning that into a healing factor, or making extra muscle mass or making claws, etc seems possible from a physical duplication standpoint, but psychic powers and energy projections aren't physical, so the cells have no clue how to do that? if she could clone dna down to the x factor level, she could doubtless do this, but that seems to be her limit, cellular copy, but no genes.

Early comic writers can't write about Mystique becoming a dad but ancient Norse mythology talks about Loki transforming into a female, mates, and gives birth to a child. I'm not sure whether we are getting more or less conservative now. :D

okay tbf, I think in the Jennifer Lawrence mystique era, it was actually her main character arc learning to be comfortable in her true blue form, so it did make sense she was normal. might have just been the writers coming up for a reason why she wasn't blue way better than they needed to tho.

The author of the Topper novels, Thorne Smith, wrote what is likely the first ever body swap novel, (1931) with a married couple swapping bodies. AFTER the swap the wife gets pregnant AND gives birth before the swap back. Yeah in 1931. Oh and in the Topper novels, Topper was a young man and the ghost Marion was trying to get him killed because she wanted his ghost to join her. Thorne Smith novels are not at all what you might expect from that time.
