Meh, of the three main mechagodzillas the 1993 version is my least favorite. Not that he’s bad but I feel like that one lacks the personality the other two sort of Had, which might have been the point given he’s a robot but yeah. His design seemed a bit too boxy and I actually took him a little less seriously than the Showa one. I cannot watch this video without my heart getting inflamed. Ever since I watched GXMG back in the 2000s I was in love with the Kiryu Saga. I loved the movies, I loved the monsters, I loved the characters, I loved Akane Yashiro, I loved the special effects and of course I loved the awesome music. And to this day I think this combination of practical and computer generated effects is the best. Masaaki Tezuka updates the Godzilla movies without losing the essence of them. That's why he is my number one pick for the new Toho Godzilla series in a couple of years. His movies made me never give up. The Godzilla 2003 is my channel mascot for a reason and the big figure of it by Bandai is since I got it my most precious item and always gets the best spots in my house. I'm fanboying a lot this time. That's not really who I am normally, but the Kiryu Saga is my most favorite one out of everything. A plus for us Germans was that we translated the original japanese script and Kiryu was called Kiryu. The German voice cast was so good as well. Akane Yashiro: "KIRYU, ZEIG ES ALLEN! STRENG DICH AN!" Also on my old phone everytime I got a message Kiryu was roaring!

Kiryu is by far my favorite incarnation of the Big Mecha G! I recently watched every live action Godzilla movie in order, and Kiryu blows the other 2 away not just in special effects but story. I may be in the minority as well, but I think he's the best looking design out of all of them as well. I was glad they used him for a sequel even if the original pilot only made a cameo ugh. That ending scene with him saying fairwell to his mechanic/pilot made me smile and really gave this fun character a lot more life.

Huh, that would have been a neat idea. I feel like Kiryu should have fought at least one kid tear monster, like maybe titanosaurus or megalon. Then again we could have it that maybe one of the smaller kaiju were really buffed up in their power, I always have wanted a more destructive version of anguirus after all. What if the first movie ended at the part where the kiryu went berserk after seeing the new Godzilla and it was a sort of cliff hanger for the second one? It would make the twist of it going Haywire feel more shocking since we would have seen him doing fine until then instead of losing his shit the first time they turn him on.

Kiryu had a very interesting dissection of name, if you think about it. 'Ki' was derived from 'Kikai' (machine), that is true. But Ki also means spirit, essence. It has other meaning as well which is 'vessel'. Dragon Spirit. Dragon Vessel. Weird, right? I think the designer was very clever and somehow the name itself was already a foreshadowing.

That is sad. How when Kiryu was possessed by the original G, the red lines on his face was representing blood tears. I'm also surprised they programmed it into the suit. (The people in the base in the movie.) but hey, at least he was able to rest in his cyborg body

I always thought that the ready player one version of Mecha-Godzilla was foreshadowing mechagodzilla in legendary's monsterverse because I thought it looked a lot like the monsterverse Godzilla.

Like Beast Machines Megatron when he fused his spark with his ancestor's, Kiryu became Godzilla from '54 but not entirely. Instead Kiryu was likely suffering from some sort of split personality disorder, or just a personality of his own.

The more I think about it, the more I feel that RoboCop and Kiryu are very similar. Kiryu is a robotic cyborg built around the remains of a now deceased Godzilla 54, created to defend Tokyo from danger but quickly tearing from his master's control, remembering who he once was and struggling to move on from the past as what he is now. Sound familiar? But seriously, Kiryu is my favorite version of Mechagodzilla.

Kiryu is the best kaiju/monster in the Godzilla universe. I'll have no one argue with me. He's badass on the surface, tortured on the inside. A damn ROBOT has CHARACTER. In every other incarnation, he's just a vessel for the humans to use to fight, but he's so much more than that in these two movies. This is one reason why Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla and Tokyo S.O.S. are some of my favorite Godzilla movies of all time, the former being my absolute favorite.

This is tied for first place on my favorite Mechagodzillas list, with Heisei Mechagodzilla. They're both absolutely strong enough to obliterate Godzilla, but can't or, in Kiryu's case, flat out refuses to. I like Kiryu's "tormented terminator" idea a lot more than Heisei's "Literally just re-appropriated Mecha-King Ghidorah", but Heisei Mechagodzilla's design is just so iconic that I keep getting it confused for Kiryu's. It doesn't help I first watched the movies for both of them around the same time as one another, furthering the confusion.
