YES ! You happened to pick probably the most famous Jazz album ever recorded AND the most influential. Miles, with this album, created not only a truly amazing set of recorded pieces, but did it with a band of arguably the most talented and prolific players in the studio at that time... And he with this album created a new type of Modal Jazz with this album.

One of the great compositions of music. Miles Davis knew how to bring the cool. There is a live version of this tune which was performed on CBS back in 1959. As a 9 year old I saw it some weeks after it was originally aired, and even then, I knew that what I heard and saw was amazing. The performance was taped at the Robert Herridge Theater, and there are several links you can get to. I have been a fan of jazz since then, and its many paths are roads are so fulfilling.

Jazz saved my life, I was so anxious that my jaw would lock from being too tight all the time ... until I found Miles Davis and Bill Evans.

That was Cannonball Adderly on the alto sax, right on the heels of Coltrane on tenor. It seems like you may not know his music- go straight to My Favorite Things! One of the few other songs that are the ultra sublime level of all of them on Kind of Blue.

The intro is Paul Chambers (bass) and Bill Evans (piano). Chambers then states the theme on his bass followed by solos from Miles, Coltrane (tenor sax), Cannonball Adderley (alto), and Bill Evans. Miles often uses a mute but not here. I love everything on Kind of Blue but "All Blues" is my favorite.

All Blues is my favorite too, and the Cannonball Adderley solo on that is perfection.

We started listening to some of Miles' stuff for the first time ourselves. Such a sound! We never listened to jazz when we were growing up, and we need to get more in touch with it. Great reaction.

My favorite "early morning wake-up song" is the appropriately titled "First Light" by Freddie Hubbard. I'm a native New Yorker and I just envision the first rays of sunlight peeking through the skyscrapers... Tito Puente does a great cover of this song as well.

I live in NYC, and this is the soundtrack to driving around NYC on a rainy afternoon. Windows up, of course. Also, you gotta mention the band ( all of whom became legendary) Herbie Hancock,John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderly, Ron Carter, Tony Williams and of course, Miles.

Miles was literally the “Birth of the Cool”. If you don’t know Miles you need to learn more about the direction of jazz. He was an enormous influence. And he helped the careers of so many GREAT jazz artists: Cannonball Adderly, John Coltrane, Bill Evans, Tony Williams, and on and on. And his style evolved tremendously. It’s great that you have discovered him. A true giant of jazz history. Just think of what he was able to do with a song that literally had only two chords in it.

The most classic of classic jazz... Of course, Miles Davis and John Coltrane are complete legends but the solo by Canonball Adderly is the real deal. So swinging... Of course, you need to cover the whole album now... Just an introduction...

Funny comment. Just go to the original and listen. Must u wait for this young guy to play the classics? He admits he knows nothing about Miles, and probably a host of other greats.

@@hovhannesharutiunian1340 That's the beauty of reaction channels. It gives me joy to see these youngsters dicovering all the great music I have enjoyed since the 60/70's. Our job is to send him suggestions so that he and maybe some of his less enlightened viewers can listen and learn.
