I was the recording engineer for this gig. The band was so happy with it that they put a couple of the tunes on a vinyl lp. Guitarist Bob Egan (the one that fell off the stage). He later became a member of a beloved Canadian band, Blue Rodeo.

Wow. Wow. Wow. This is wonderful because I am a snowman. And can you imagine how hard it is to play in the cold of winter? Fingers bad. Arms cramped. Snot running down your nose. Voice challenged. I see LiveWire and say well done to all of YOU! Bookmarked. And there are skiers on the slopes in the back! I am gobsmacked in the best.

So cool to hear the lineup that made me love Wilco. I was obsessed until Sky Blue Sky came out. Their new record, Cruel Country, is pretty damn good. The boys are rocking out again. It's about time.

It's not.CBC Music 1997, it's MuchMusic 1997. I directed.it. Wilco and Sloan. I have the full HD files. I'll have post em. The quality is great, but I'm afraid that distracting editing doesn't get any better

Interesting to see how hard a band needed to rock to be relevant at the tail end of the grunge era. One would be forgiven for wondering "Where's the country in this alt-country?"
@michaeldematteis340910 ай бұрын
I really hate that alt country term.lol.nothing they play sounded country to me.maybe I’m nuts
@stantonshelby10 ай бұрын
@@michaeldematteis3409 I think AM is fairly called alt country. Jeff has obliquely referred to it as such (' a record made for a perceived audience' ). Or at least that's my interpretation - AM was consciously/intentionally made for the alt country consumer.
@redadamearth10 ай бұрын
Jeff had punk roots and Wilco's live shows were always like this, dude. And most of the songs here they play JUST like they are on the album, "Being There" at the time. The only thing they changed up was "Someone Else's Song" and they'd already done it this way long before. They weren't trying to be "relevant" lol - this was every single live show they ever did. They rocked out like crazy at those shows.
@kennhiser3 жыл бұрын
Not quite the rocking opening tune they expected I think.
@ve3yjt2 жыл бұрын
For sure. Word around town before the show was something like "Who's playing? Wilco. Woolco? like the store? No... Wilco. They're like a country band from Chicago, or something"
