I really hate the 3D graphics of the game compared with the original and they butchered the revamped soundtrack. It's a shame as I really want to play the extra content
@NickEnlowe9 ай бұрын
@@StewNWT It sounds like you're talking about the PS2 remake of the original PS1 game 'Wild Arms', called 'Alter Code F'. Xygor is asking about 'Wild Arms XF', which is a 2.5d strategy game for PSP with an original soundtrack (watch the video).

I got fed up with the puzzles and class system (I hate games with extensive class systems). The story and battle gameplay weren't too bad.

The most overlooked entry to a major JRPG franchise. Congratulations Xygor you made only the SECOND review on KZbin of a game so old thr trailer was the very first thing i ever saw on KZbin followed by a trailer for Enchanted Arms...the very first JRPG in HD....which has more than 2 reviews lol.

THIS game proved to be quite the wild ride for me. I remember my first playthrough of this game... I was SOOOO frustrated at how insanely difficult and borderline cheat certain enemies and win conditions tend to get through out the game. But after playing through it again years later, I somehow figured out a handful of strategies to cheese through the b.s. and even lucked out inadvertently creating an OP drifter that I originally meant to use as a backup fighter to fill in for a certain main character that leaves the group for a little while. Heck, I gave him a funny Jeff Foxworthy-esque voice and gave him the silly name 'Bobble' just to remind myself how little I planned on taking him seriously. Bobble became the most powerful spellcaster to the point where he carried the team all the way to the end of the game! He even inadvertently delivered the sacrificial blow that defeated the final boss! (I meant to have Clarissa, the main character be the one finish it off by using her super powerful 'Sacrifice' attack, but it wasnt enough to kill it... so Bobble used Action Replay to mimic her attack and Sacrificed himself to finish it off!) ....Bobble later went on to be my custom main character in Phantasy Star Portable 2.

It's been a while, i launched it recently to see how long it took me to drop it back in the day. Only to realise it's been 16 years and i felt kind of bad... Anyway, i'm pretty sure that the map at 3:28 is the one where i said "enough, the difficulty is wack, i'm out of here" despite the variety of mission objectives and the unique hexagon system. The 6 unit max cap may not have helped as i prefer larger army srpg. I'll probably try to replay it at some point, but i need to finish Tactics Ogre Reborn at least once before and decide if i want to spend another couple hundred hours to do all routes and postgame before giving a second chance to old srpg i never finished (XF and Chroma Squad are on the top of that list). BTW, the inside cover artwork was a nice touch, but if it hadn't been black and white, it would have make for a great alternative box ard.

You do some of the best retro RPG reviews on the internet. I was wondering if you made any reviews of any Phantasy Star games especially the 4th entry to the series which is my favorite. And since this video is on a tactical grid based RPG (which unfortunately I haven't had the chance to play Wild Arms yet) it would be cool to see videos on Shining Force CD and Shining Force II as well which are in the same genre.

Thank you! I do plan to cover the Phantasy Star games in the future. I ranked the 4th one as my favorite Genesis game ever.

I remember playing this a long time ago. I love tactical RPGs and Wild ARMs, so this was a nice fit. My only gripe is that.... not enough games in the genre use hex style grids....

How funny, I didn't know the game was so well regarded. It's the only "Wild Arms" entry I've ever played so I don't exactly have much of a frame of reference. While I did play it much earlier on, it wasn't until around 4 years ago where I did a complete start-to-finish playthrough. Even beating the optional superboss by utilizing a cheese method. While I did enjoy the game...I don't really think it's something I'd want to replay, or at least anytime soon anyway. For as unique as many of the main stage objectives were, which was definitely interesting, they often felt very limiting to me. More of a puzzle or gimmick to figure out than a battle to strategize around. If you didn't have the right characters with the right classes/equipment/skills, it was a near instant failure most of the time. While some missions that'd cause that scenario were obvious, like Clarissa usually will need the range of her gun so always keep it equipped on her, some others weren't leading to a fair bit of frustration. In fact, the reason I stopped playing the game the first time around so long ago was that defense mission shown at 2:55. I failed it so many times and when I finally cleared it, I ended up dropping the game soon after since I burnt myself out. It wasn't as bad the second time around when I did the proper playthrough but I definitely wasn't looking forward to it. Funnily, 5:12 was a stage that also gave me issues since I kept getting unwanted criticals, accidentally killing the enemies which led to a game over.

This game is not for the weak some stages can be very hard and the the learn curve takes a bit i got so far before i lost my save but will be beating it for sure

Okay, I give it a second try thanks to your review.😊 When I first played the game one year ago I didn't really enjoyed it. I liked the graphics, music and objectives, but I didn't like the menu system, I felt like I was more on the menu managing all the stuff than doing missions. And I hated the fact that some characters couldn't reach certain areas, which meant you were sometimes forced to certain classes or you couldn't compete a mission at all... Well thanks for the review. ❤

Hey, I love the Wild Arms series! Have you ever played the PSP strategy RPG Jeanne D'Arc? I think you'd enjoy it, and it would make a great review video for quite often a very unknown game.
@FriedPotatoesForLife11 күн бұрын
Jeanne d arc is one of the best I would say, I got hooked from day 1, the story line was interesting, the art and gameplay as well, they had everything like Love, friendship, betrayal, revenge and more , I got into the word of rpgs mainly because of Final Fantasy Vll on psp with Zack Fair and Aerith storyline, and devil may cry 4 though it’s a hack and slash I see rpgs and hack slash games quite the same. Do you know anymore psp games that show unique bonds between characters ? If so recommend me some, I’d like to try

@@FriedPotatoesForLife There aren't a whole lot that I spent much time with on the PSP. I still enjoy the JRPG Brave Story: New Traveler, and you have to be patient to get to Chapter 3/4 of the game to get out of what feels like turtorial handholding. The frame of a human from earth traveling to another world where they can act ans and are known as a hero is very vintage storybook.
