You've come a long way on your bee journey! Love watching, the guy facing an outhouse with 5 plus hives (a monster one in doorway) with only a wheelie bin to drop it all in seems light years ago! Respect due mate, keep on going, best of luck from UK

Why don't you invest is a bee vacuum? It would surely make these types of clean-ups so much easier. When framing up the comb do you pay attention in which direction the cells are? Making sure that the combs go back in with the cells tilted up as in the colony?

Mark just a question,do you check each rescue hive for varroa mites and diseases?Your son John is bloody awesome and congratulations on the new born guys,totally stoked.
@TheBushBeeMan4 жыл бұрын
Thank you!! We sure do check for brood issues but thankfully here in Australia we don't have varroa mites but that being said we do keep this well away for the other hives for the first month or so.

Here in southeast Texas quite a bit of the honey tastes like molasses to me and it’s really dark like what drained down into your tote.

You need eskys for your cutouts, at least 3or 4. One for the good brood, one for the waste wax/brood, one or two for the honey ( and a small one for a six pack lol). Won’t melt the comb in the heat and easy to clean up.

Why is the honey so dark and red?
@tootruetrivia57154 жыл бұрын
Probably due to the plants they were getting nectar from. If you get real blueberry honey it will taste like blueberry, but no flavoring was added.
@jameth1234 жыл бұрын
That's quite common with eucalypt honey. If you google "Red Gum Honey", you'll see that Aussie honey can get quite dark.

Such a bloody mess you made of that colony mate, why didn’t you frame the cone up instead of placing most of the nest in a plastic box, frame it up as you cut every individual piece you have a better chance of maybe finding the queen and a lot of bees won’t drown in there own honey, anyway I have got to applaud you for saving the bees good on ya mate.
@petermurphy62164 жыл бұрын
Alex Hope O'Connor hello Alec I did mention in my comment to frame up the cone from the plastic container, most if not all the honey cone was not placed in the brood nest in the plastic container, I know I said frame cone up as you cut it out but was meaning the cone from the plastic container, I to am a beekeeper who has done multiple cutouts in the past to save honey bee colonies from destruction.
