A 40 km hike to Slieve Carr in one of the most remote areas in Ireland. Following the Bangor Trail before climbing Nephin Beg and Slieve Carr. A summit camp on Slieve Carr and return by the Western Way.

Sublime stuff as usual, Gerry. You had far better weather than we did when we climbed Slieve Carr back in 2011! Loved the close up shots of Scardaun Lough with rippled powder white sand - looks positively tropical!! Lovely sweeping panoramas of Blacksod Bay and Achill Island. Thanks for the upload :-)

Cheers Florin, I use the Ireland Ordnance Survey 1:50000 maps which can be paper based or used through an app like View Ranger (now All trails). Harvey Maps do a 1:30000 waterproof map which covers Connemara - 12 Bens, Maumturks etc which is a great map for more detail.

It only covers the mountains further south, not Mweelrea

Gerry this is outstanding work. Really enjoy all your videos Gerry, particularly this one. Sliabh Carr is on my list for the coming year. Can you give me the grid reference please for the place you accessed the Western Way after your ascent from Sliabh Carr (the timber steps). Also is there parking at the Brogan Carroll Bothy?

Started off very good. Could hear the wind blowing through the trees and the water gurgling in the streams. Filled my senses with the experience. Then came the annoying piped in music (which I can get any time I want from my itunes). Why do people ruin a perfectly good outdoor video by cramming their taste in music into everyone's ears? Why? Why?
