One thing I take in my bibs and bobs bag is dental floss, yes dental floss. Why? No need to take spare boot lases or lengths of paracord, the breaking strain of dental floss is truly amazing. It can also be used for sewing buttons, washing lines, even emergency tent guylines. Can be found in most supermarkets or chemists, comes in a small plastic 50m container, weighs nothing.

Another point about burying poo - it's a good idea to mix some soil into it with a twig or something before covering it over, to help it decompose quicker.

If using a tent footprint, peg it quickly where you hope to pitch and then lie down on it and roll about. I've found a huge number of partly hidden but annoying lumps/rocks this way. You've not invested much time at that stage so it's easy to move the tent a bit and you're more likely to bother.

Excellent video. Really important to reinforce the Leave No Trace message and to actually explain the practicalities of what this means. There are more and more people filming themselves and putting it on KZbin encouraging others to do the same but very few talk about this and the responsibility we all have to ensure we don’t ruin it for others. I’m not keen on giving exact locations of camping spots because there is a danger that they will become over used, it’s all too common to find somewhere littered with human excrement and toilet paper. I always try to use proper facilities where I can, the cafe toilet before the walk for example, but you can’t always plan for everything so I carry WagBags. They’re light and self contained comprising of a large plastic bag containing a powder to absorb liquid and deodorise waste, a small amount of toilet paper, a hand sanitizer, and a stronger zipped plastic pouch to double bag the contents. At the end of your trip they are authorised for landfill disposal so can be dropped in a bin. I was a bit dubious at first but they are easy to use and pretty cheap I always carry a bit of extra toilet paper and hand sanitizer though. No danger of contaminating water sources, being disturbed by animals, digging up someone else’s spot etc. You can get them various places e.g. www.needlesports.com/Catalogue/Accessories/Medical-Cosmetic/Clean-Waste-Go-Anywhere-Toilet-Kit-WAG-Bag-MET-WAG

Love the last points about why wild camping is so brilliant! Good food is often overlooked- salami/chorizo is such a tasty treat. Wasabi snacks really get me going if you like a bit of spice! 🥵 My luxury item - probably a book. A friend of mine always took a bone china mug!

I have gaffer and zinc oxide tape wrapped on my Nalgene bottle. Had to use it in Nepal last year and both had lost their adhesiveness. A great idea but in practice didn't work for me.

Don't think I've ever needed to take a dump while out wild camping - if you're only out for one night it shouldn't be to difficult to control your bowls

@@sprecklesville Hahahaha heard that. Same here, my bowls are maintained and well controlled along with my other kitchenware.... however sometimes you simply have no control over an unexpected surge 👀.
