Thanks as always for the great content! Do you obtain insurance for climbing for the 90 days? BMC cover is nearly £700 for a couple to simply sport climb in the EU for 90 days and the other insureres do not inspire confidence as to what they understand about climbing terms...

Just in principle, shouldn’t you tie off the munter hitch with a mule overhand, so you can remove the tube without any concern about the munter backing up the autoblock?

Scrambling to me is fast mountaineering compared to the slow pace you usually find in the States. I was in the Alps for a month and half and my entire mindset of climbing was changed after that. Fast and light, fast and light, that is my new mantra. It sent me on a whole new buying spree in finding gear that fits the mantra. Granted the way the system in the Alps works with having huts and shelters differs way more than what we have here in the States, but I still enjoy the new mindset and bringing it home while climbing there.

Wetting out doesn't mean the water comes through though. It's just means the outer layer is saturated. The water still needs to get through the ePTFE layer, which is the waterproof layer. I think you're mentally connecting the fact that when the DWR has gone the jacket fails but I suspect that is due to the fact that that takes a few years and by then the membrane has started to fail or go contaminated. I''m not a Goretex fan especially but I've been out in new Goretex jackets, backpacking for a couple of days in heavy rain etc and they don't leak, other than a bit of water at the cuffs or zips etc but the fabric is waterproof IME.

Kinda funny that I’m not the only one that has to put up with the noise of military aircraft, I get the same in the Lake District when instructing paddle sport on Lake Windermere. For the mountain leader assessment, do you recommend a 4 season tent like a fjallraven abisco lite tent or do you think it is fine to have a good 3 season tent like a big agnes copper spur hv ul2 or durston x mid tent? For context, I am looking to do an assessment in the autumn before proper winter comes to the lakes and snowdonia.

The answer is: It's not. Rubbish rear gear loops, no haul loop, not comfortable to hang in or belay in at all. Not sure where on earth they came up with that price.

@JBMountainSkills : with the PIP & Connect Adjust (etc) would it be acceptable to clip the master point, extend (not quite to the limit) and belay with a (non guide) plate off the tie in / harness's belay loop? potential to use a crab as a redirect off the master point, face uphill & sit back in the harness, the taught lanyard being somewhere to stack the rope as the second is brought up. great vid; good clear details as always plus excellently controversial clickbait title! :-j

There is no answer tht fits, on the one side you have the "you should be able to use any device having assisted maked you lazy/bad habits" and on the other you have "why not, it makes things safer" both are 100% valid. I guess it boils down to the clibing partners to agree between them what they are comfortable on?

The Klein heist is a directional hitch The problem is that if you actually were to take the fall because say the wire your bailing on blows then the direction that the rope is getting pulled is going to reverse from lowering to lead falling and that hitch only works one way it's better to use the traditional prusik
@JBMountainSkills

@@EstrogenSingularity an upside down klemheist is a hedden knot / hitch. Still a very good hitch. A classic prusik is of course an option too.

Beginner question that keeps me awake at night, why clip your lanyard to only one piece of fixed gear? Wouldn't it be better to have redundancy by being clipped to the 2 pieces of fixed gear? I've seen some videos where guys use a PAS or Double Lanyards to clip in to the two pieces but those PAS seem bulky AF. So my question really is: why not clip our single lanyard to the anchor's master point? That way we have the redundancy of being clipped to both bolts (through our anchor), still be on belay, do method 1 or 2, ask for a take, clean the anchor and then lower off? Does that make sense? Sorry in advance if it's a stupid question haha
@JBMountainSkills
@JBMountainSkills Ай бұрын
@@gabrielsuarez2776 not a stupid question at all! If you were really worried about the integrity of one bolt you could go in to the central point but this would be super, super rare. The master point isn’t always big enough for a bite of rope and lanyard and I find it just helps keep things clearer.

@@JBMountainSkills Wouldn't you say that a rain jacket, or a gore-tex ski jacket is meant to be used on a daily basis or at least a regular basis? I noticed that you mentioned in your case, you were rotating between multiple rain jackets. Thats probably why your H2NO jacket is still working in my opinion They seem to perform great at first, but as soon as the jacket gets any type of regular use the coating diminishes and the hydrophobic properties are gone
