what really helps is knowing the color of salmon. farm raised is more fatty and the color is like a pale orange/pink (color added via kibble). wild caught tends to be more of a vibrant orange/red. also wild caught is less fatty. the taste is different too
@tombryant45182 ай бұрын
Farmed salmon meat colour can be whatever the farmer wants because they control it by what they feed them.
@programmertheory2 ай бұрын
@@tombryant4518 Most farmers utilize a kibble-like feed, which has been laced with astaxanthin, the chemical which provides salmon it's pinkness. It is true it can be adjusted in the salmon's food, most of this kibble are nowhere near the level wild-caught salmon receive in their naturally occurring diet. Without, the meat would be gray. farm-raised fish has more calories, but wild-caught can have nematodes. up to the person to decide which to pick

Go up to the Kenai peninsula in Alaska on the Russian River during the salmon run in June July and you can catch 3 reds a day that average 14 to 17 lbs.

@@Outdoor_jake_ Don’t know what red springs is other than the town in North Carolina, but on the Russian and kenai rivers the average salmon is much smaller than 14-17, and if you’re a resident (like me) the limit is actually 6 instead of 3 here in Alaska.

Got Great Lakes wild caught salmon from a fishing charter trip. It was $600 but we caught so much it ended up being cheaper than the store. Plus a fun boat ride line fishing. No guarantee but that was amazing. Not pink though, they're catching a whole 'nother level. Still delicious though.
