Rough cut of the full (missing) opening sequence of 2008 movie "Wild Child" starring Emma Roberts. For reasons unknown, although many of these scenes were featured in the promotional trailers, they were cut from the final version of the movie.
For anyone that loves this movie I think these scenes definitely give a better insight into Poppy's lavish world, and her father's pent up frustration, that ultimately lead her to boarding school.

they should have never cut this scene, it provided soooo much context to her life and who she was before she left. it would have shown how well rounded she became and how much character growth she had. and also how much of a vapid shallow jerk she was before she left, so her nasty language to ruby about the girls in england and her overall demeanor would have made more sense.

i feel like they should've left it in, but when first watching it, you didn't need to know anything else to her character other than that she was a brat. and that's what they showed in the original movie. it was pretty self-explanatory for me. but i do agree. should've left a few bits of this scene in

I still blame her dad who didnt console poppy or molly after their mother's death, dated a girl younger than him and looks like she could be her sister, didnt bother to have his daughters get along with his girlfriend before inviting her to move in with them, and then dealing with this whole situation by shipping and abandoning his daughter in a boarding school with no contact. He didnt even check on her when she was about to be expelled or when there was a school fire that she was in.

@John Hooper it's not like she blamed men because of she's a woman? But there are some correct perspective here. Instead of sent poppy to english school, why don't poppy's dad tried to introduce his girlfriend to poppy? Poppy seems like loves her mother so much that it made her hurts to seeing her father having a new girlfriend. I think this is why she said the father can be blamed too..

The water, room decor, clothes, makeup, colour palette, music and just everything is soooo so so 2000’s coded it makes me so nostalgic and want to cry 😢😭 Especially the music and the room at the beginning. I was not a teenager during the 2000’s, I was around 10-13 years old so I missed out on the teenager experience. But I had older cousins whose clothes and room looked almost identical to this scene. It’s really nostalgic.. I miss it.

Rewatching this opening, i really wish they kept it. I understand it’s a pretty lengthy opening but they easily could have cut down certain scenes to bring the runtime down, like shortening clips a little or speeding up dialog, cause it makes her behavior make more sense when she gets to Britain. It makes her relationship more understandable because how creepy and weird her Cali boyfriend was. Plus it shows how much she relied on her friends despite then being fake and make her being sad away from them more realistic.

Watching this extended scene made me realize Poppy’s character. Standard rich, spoiled, mean and chooses a crowd of popular socialite party girls, and so as said in the movie behaves like an asshole. I look back in the movie and in this scene and see that her sister Molly sees how Poppy and her friends act and behave, plus in the movie she already could tell that Ruby wasn’t the type of friend for Poppy. Her dad’s girlfriend was trying to be nice and feel accepted by her but Poppy had to behave like an asshole because of the whole her dad’s already forgotten about her mother and already moved on. I mean yeah I get it her dad should’ve console her after her mother died her feelings about it and his new girlfriend, but he made the right decision to send her to Abby Mount as such it dose straightened her out and learn about proper friendship. Wish they didn’t cut this entire scene from the movie.

Sophia Simoni yeah but this gives SO much more context. For example, later in the movie they do the “who are we?!” when they take a selfie in the store, so this makes it seem so much more clear as to why they did it. Same with when poppy was dancing at her house party, that’s why she did it at her school dance. Also when her little sister asked her who was going to make her pb&j’s when she was in boarding school, it tells us that Poppy and her sister had a nice bond. They definitely should’ve kept these scenes as it provides SO much more context.

After seeing this and the final cut where Poppy tells her boarding school principal she only reads Us Weekly and tabloid magazines I finally get the confirmation that her “malibu moment! Who are we?” Mantra before selfies was meant to imply she and her friends were wannabe D-lists celebrities aspiring to be photographed by paparazzi while shopping and etc, and since they weren’t famous, they used this mantra semi-ironically because they believed one day they would get their pictures taken instead of having to take it themselves? Did anybody also have the same hypothesis? The malibu moment was the most random part of the movie for sure, and maybe the who are we? As a question also implies these girls don’t know who they are and are trying to emulate what’s cool on tabloids which is what Poppy is told the whole time throughout the movie hence she finds her true identity at the end, where she’s able to keep some of her personality traits from her malibu past self but water them down so she’s able to function outside the malibu neverland. God, that was too deep for something to insignificant like the malibu moment. This was my favorite childhood movie and I’ve been overthinking it and analyzing it to death ever since LOL

The stairwell, livingroom, and kitchen are nearly identical to the sorority house, and the fact that shes yelling at a maid in the opening seen......then she makes a reference to burning at the stake and a gothic phase....so AHS-coven.

Why this was cut: - this adds nothing to the movie - anything fundamental to the plot or her character is introduced later on - the pacing is rushed and offbeat with the rest of the film - let's be honest it's cringey and not in a likable way ultimately it's a rough and unnecessary cut that takes run-time away from the brilliant rest of the film

I don't agree.... the reason being: These scenes do show how much of a spoilt girl she was😅. In the movie...she just ended up in the boarding school all of a sudden... 😐with less of an intro on her character. But even then I do love the movie cause it was amazing😍❤

The part where her dad and his girlfriend come home was definitely necessary and showed her childish and hypocritical mentality towards those who try to help her (says she wishes the gf would be more like mom then gf proceeds to give her a blanket to keep her warm and poppy goes ew ur not my mom stop) to the plot but the rest of this was indeed cringey. Maybe they couldve shown snippets of it like the malibu moment and smoothie shop scene lol.

I think it's perfect for the beginning of the movie. It shows Poppy's completely spoiled life before boarding school, so it kinda makes her "personality transformation" there even stronger. I agree it's "cringey and not in a likable way", but I think it's supposed to be exactly like that 😁

I do see why these were cut but I think a few of them give more context. For example the scenes at the beginning of the party, it then makes sense why there are so many people there and add another bad thing she did to go to England. Also the dancing scene with her friend. We get more of their relationship. And finally the one with her step mom. I think that speaks for itself.

I can understand why this extended scene was cut from the movie. In past I've seen trailer briefly showed parts of scenes. Still I always wondered how all the events leading to Poppy throwing the party and being sent to boarding school played out. I agree this should have been added to the movie. Its not everyday wefind out what Ruby was like in earlier teens and see the new stepmother that's mentioned in the movie looks like. She seems genuine kind person. Deserves a bit better. Finally have closure. 🙏❤ am I the only one who thinks the stepmother should have been added with father near the ending scene when Poppy was back in Malibu with her new friends and boyfriend?

glad they left this on the cutting room floor, and yes it does make things 'clearer' but its so superfluous. we KNEW this already, we knew poppy came from this sort of background, we knew her dads girlfriend was the reason she fucked up and left. this was just extra minutes at the end of the day and seeing the main character struggle to function in a new environment is way more entertaining than a stock-standard LA party scene imo

Like I said, send them to St Trinians. They way they keep acting like they're better than everyone else, they won't last longer than 5 minutes, and their habit of going 'ew ew ew' every time they touch dirt will definitely put them at the bottom of the schools food chain. And when I say St Trinians I mean all versions of it, the cartoon series by Roald Searle, the 50s and 60s movie series (don't bother with the 80s movie, that one was a dud) and the 2007 and 2009 movies.

Ok as much as I love this, I actually don't think it would have made the movie better. The original sets up her character so well as a wild child hence the title as opposed to a popular girl.
