they should have never cut this scene, it provided soooo much context to her life and who she was before she left. it would have shown how well rounded she became and how much character growth she had. and also how much of a vapid shallow jerk she was before she left, so her nasty language to ruby about the girls in england and her overall demeanor would have made more sense.
@izzysophie18744 жыл бұрын
i feel like they should've left it in, but when first watching it, you didn't need to know anything else to her character other than that she was a brat. and that's what they showed in the original movie. it was pretty self-explanatory for me. but i do agree. should've left a few bits of this scene in

I still blame her dad who didnt console poppy or molly after their mother's death, dated a girl younger than him and looks like she could be her sister, didnt bother to have his daughters get along with his girlfriend before inviting her to move in with them, and then dealing with this whole situation by shipping and abandoning his daughter in a boarding school with no contact. He didnt even check on her when she was about to be expelled or when there was a school fire that she was in.

Rewatching this opening, i really wish they kept it. I understand it’s a pretty lengthy opening but they easily could have cut down certain scenes to bring the runtime down, like shortening clips a little or speeding up dialog, cause it makes her behavior make more sense when she gets to Britain. It makes her relationship more understandable because how creepy and weird her Cali boyfriend was. Plus it shows how much she relied on her friends despite then being fake and make her being sad away from them more realistic.

Watching this extended scene made me realize Poppy’s character. Standard rich, spoiled, mean and chooses a crowd of popular socialite party girls, and so as said in the movie behaves like an asshole. I look back in the movie and in this scene and see that her sister Molly sees how Poppy and her friends act and behave, plus in the movie she already could tell that Ruby wasn’t the type of friend for Poppy. Her dad’s girlfriend was trying to be nice and feel accepted by her but Poppy had to behave like an asshole because of the whole her dad’s already forgotten about her mother and already moved on. I mean yeah I get it her dad should’ve console her after her mother died her feelings about it and his new girlfriend, but he made the right decision to send her to Abby Mount as such it dose straightened her out and learn about proper friendship. Wish they didn’t cut this entire scene from the movie.

After seeing this and the final cut where Poppy tells her boarding school principal she only reads Us Weekly and tabloid magazines I finally get the confirmation that her “malibu moment! Who are we?” Mantra before selfies was meant to imply she and her friends were wannabe D-lists celebrities aspiring to be photographed by paparazzi while shopping and etc, and since they weren’t famous, they used this mantra semi-ironically because they believed one day they would get their pictures taken instead of having to take it themselves? Did anybody also have the same hypothesis? The malibu moment was the most random part of the movie for sure, and maybe the who are we? As a question also implies these girls don’t know who they are and are trying to emulate what’s cool on tabloids which is what Poppy is told the whole time throughout the movie hence she finds her true identity at the end, where she’s able to keep some of her personality traits from her malibu past self but water them down so she’s able to function outside the malibu neverland. God, that was too deep for something to insignificant like the malibu moment. This was my favorite childhood movie and I’ve been overthinking it and analyzing it to death ever since LOL

I would've cut some parts too, but not all of it. Some takes were long but the final version ended up very short, Thank you for the closure, it was very much needed!
@paigephillips42824 жыл бұрын
I do see why these were cut but I think a few of them give more context. For example the scenes at the beginning of the party, it then makes sense why there are so many people there and add another bad thing she did to go to England. Also the dancing scene with her friend. We get more of their relationship. And finally the one with her step mom. I think that speaks for itself.

Though poppy had a great fun life in america.. she had a lovely house... the positive thing about abbey mount, is that she changed into a better person... But still.. they shouldn't hav deleted this scene!!

Am I the only one that hates this? I love the movie but this was the cringiest acting/lines even for 2008. If they made the scene way better, then it definitely would've added more context to the movie. But hell naww I'm glad they cut this out.

i'm not a fan either, its way too chaotic, especially the camera work. Yes, it would have added context, but the final cut still makes sense without it

Agreed, too much is happening but none of it is all that interesting. Plus the girls act way too much like caricatures in this, reminds me of how mean superficial girls are portrayed in a bad Disney channel movie lol, overkill.

I'm so happy this was cut. I certainly wouldn't have connected to Poppy seeing how hostile and rude she is here. As much as I get the whole film is about character development, I feel that I wouldn't have even bothered watching it with this as the intro.

I can understand why this extended scene was cut from the movie. In past I've seen trailer briefly showed parts of scenes. Still I always wondered how all the events leading to Poppy throwing the party and being sent to boarding school played out. I agree this should have been added to the movie. Its not everyday wefind out what Ruby was like in earlier teens and see the new stepmother that's mentioned in the movie looks like. She seems genuine kind person. Deserves a bit better. Finally have closure. 🙏❤ am I the only one who thinks the stepmother should have been added with father near the ending scene when Poppy was back in Malibu with her new friends and boyfriend?
