A live, semi-improvised track performed entirely on hardware.
I'd recently been inspired by the emergence of so many great live performances on the Moog semi-modular units, thanks in part to the "Moog Sound Studio" bundles now being sold. While most of my favourite tracks were ambient (see AB85's amazing stuff on KZbin if you haven't already!), I can't help myself. This ended up being a fun groove that I just wanted to bring over the top.
To help, I used the Zoia Euroburo for reverb on the Subharmonicon and Mother 32. I had originally thought I'd use the Euroburo as a modulator as well, but I was happy with the sound and did relatively little patching. Maybe in the future! In any case, the Euroburo did a great job on creating some space for the synth sounds in this track; its "Reverb Lite" algorithm is supposed to be a CPU-friendly alternative, but I find it just sounds pretty great in general.
For the DFAMs, I wanted something to leverage their weirdness and wildness. So for the kick sounds, I used the Valco KGB Fuzz (to get it buzzy and wild and droning at the end) and the UA FX Starlight (to add some energy and stereo space in the finale). And for the cymbal sounds, I added the Erica Synths Zen Delay, which is such an amazing and performative effects pedal, and it became another instrument in its own right.
Overall, this track is a great reminder that good analog boxes can get you 90% of the way there. I love how these semi-modulars sound.
Moog Subharmonicon - Chords and pseudo-arp
Moog Mother 32 - Melody-type thing
Empress Zoia Euroburo - mixer and reverb for the melodic synths
Moog DFAM 1 via Valco KGB Fuzz and UA FX Starlight - kick/bass
Moog DFAM 2 via Erica Synths Zen Delay - cymbals/lasers
Thanks for listening.
Performed and recorded live, with EQ, compression, and limiting on the master.

This is the greatest synth video on KZbin. The way the Mother melody overlays the Sub - hits me right in the spine

"The greatest synth video on KZbin." ::::sigh:::: I respect your right to an opinion, but honestly... Some names: Lisa Bella Donna. Blush Response. Cuckoo. Venus Theory. Look Mum, No Computer. French 79. EZ Bot. Hainbach. Ben Jordan. This was nice, I agree. But that accolade was more than a bit over zealous.

@@Berus7777Is your intent really to make a happy listener happier by redirecting them to something “better”? Or is it that you don’t understand the fact of subjective musical taste at all? The whole point of KZbin is to capture diversity so we don’t all have to watch the same stuff because we don’t all like the same stuff and in my opinion, life is better that way.

LOLed at "I was inspired by some beautiful ambient pieces on these Moog semi-modulars, but I have no chill" - I was just thinking to myself "wow, this is getting strong and great!" Well done at not defaulting to ambient for these beasts, they're able to do more!

One of your best, I think! And I love all your stuff. The syncopated threes against the DFAM fours really was effective and seemed to create space for some of the "bouncing" from the other effects. I do love the Zen Delay. Very nice use of it!

Damn. Such a beautiful arch. So we’ll designed. The development and time horizon of it is perfect. Mastery. I love the muted, dark synths still pulsing at the end after the filters close back down is gorgeous. And using the zen delay as a riser is totally next level creativity. Amazing work on this, man. Thank you for taking the time to educate us and give us a sense of what you’re doing along the well as well 🙏. Makes it not only fun to watch but I feel like I’m becoming a better producer watching you work. Total joy. Thank you!
