They're slightly bigger than I thought, but that just makes them even cuter :3

Most of the birds you see footage of are juveniles that are soon to be released. They get hatched and raised to stoat-proof size, before being released. This is why conservation efforts generally involve removing the egg from the parents’ care. It makes they survival to adulthood, and breeding age, more likely.

That's great footage, would it be OK if I used some of it in a story to illustrate the NZ Predator Free 2050 project and why these birds are so precious. Happy to credit the source if you want to provide the details, thanks

He wants to walk down the track and hunt worms. Then he realizes you're there, and you don't want to spoil your anthropocentric joy minute, so you don't move. So, I knew before the last sixty seconds that he would go "Uh oh? Outta' here", 'cause he thinks that because you're standing ground 'this strange beast' is probably a threat. You messed with his Zen thing, by not giving this creature his space. I would have backed away slowly before he got closer and knew you were there, and just left this little being alone. Moment still captured. Haven't we done enough? 🤷♂️

Actually unhinged comment. Like the OP is literally having a mental breakdown over a calm kiwi taking the long way around a group of people lmao.
