Best to go Toyota Todd .. North American manufactireres have not made a good vehicle in years.. Chevy was so bad here in Thailand that they packed up and left .. NO dealerships left at all !!

Great video Todd, I've been watching the trip and I'm green with envy. Thanks for sharing. Pity the car is a bit of a concern, and, not getting any better from the sound of things. Sounds like a bearing failure somewhere along the driveline is coming. Could be a challenge if you're in the middle of nowhere. Keep an eye on Mobile Phone service. If you get back to base without breaking down, the Toyota option sounds good to me. I've always been a Land Rover Defender guy but, the old joke of, A Land Rover will take you anywhere but a Toyota will also bring you home again. True words often spoken in jest ! Take Care. Sounds like the Diff. Going through the water with a warmed up diff,it will suck the water (puddles/stream crossing ) in,through the Diff Breather. People modify the diff breather by adding an extension ,higher up ,to limit water ingress. Cheers.....Kenno West Aust

Tod, if you have not seen a skin specialist for the spots on your face, you need to asap. I'm going through treatment now. I'm an Aussie of the same age and we're all paying the price of the Australian sun. Skin cancer kills a lot of people.

That last drone sequence is outstanding. It can be a little nerve (w)racking flying them backwards like that - especially when they are far enough away that they are no longer in sight, but it seems like the end result was worth the risk - well done.

Most likely whirring sound is either transfer box output bearing, or wear in the diff. If you have a two piece rear propshaft, the center bearing can dry up.

Hey Todd. I crossed a local boarder in that area, from Vietnam to Laos late last year. I was fine because I had been to the embassy the day before, and got permission to cross that specific boarder. But we left 6 people behind, because they were either trying to do visa on arrival, or had e visas. It was really strict.

That’s where it’s good to have friends in Laos. I’ve been stopped several times. I show all my papers, and if I am still not let go, I call my friend. He speaks to the cop and the cop will let me go. 😅 But my friend he works in Govt so that helps.
