It looks like she has a cataract or something with her other eye as well. It doesn’t reflect light like it should. I’ve been relocating wild raccoons for almost a year and a raccoon’s eyes reflect really really bright against any light source. There’s barely any reflection in that other eye. She’s very very close to being totally blind. 🥺 you are an amazing person for doing all of this.

I usually relocate 30 miles to the west in my hometown. They’ve been eating my chickens and eggs and earlier in the year they ate all the eggs and babies from my bluebird boxes.

OMG it's like someone made a video for my exact situation. Texas had a bad snow storm last year and I met a female raccoon that was in malnourished rough shape. I fed her good nutritious food close to her natural diet and she slowly improved. I named her Rakù. A year later her and her baby Raisin now come around every evening to greet me. My son loves having them around too and taking care of any wildlife in need.

This brings back a memory. 1994. My late fiancé who passed in 1995, in 1994 we used to go to the Metro Parks to cook hot dogs on their grills they had at sites. Well one day this wild pregnant raccoon came looking for food. I had never seen a real raccoon. Well Mike ignored the raccoon so I sat down, strangely unafraid and offered the raccoon hot dog bun. She loved it. Refused to touch any hot dogs raw or cooked. She waddled away. We went back a couple weeks later and there was that pregnant raccoon again. Then I decided to name her. I named her Roberta. Well Mike thought me nuts for being so close to a wild raccoon let alone naming one and ignored her which suited Roberta. But the second time Roberta crawled on my lap for her hot dog bun and ate it on my lap! Obviously I knew better not to pet her. It was wild! Third time we went there was Roberta again! But it was different this time. Another raccoon had followed her and decided he wanted to go after me sitting on the ground and Roberta ran after him to prevent what I thought was an attack try. I was stunned! Mike was stunned! Roberta waddled to me and I shared with her on my lap a whole hot dog bun as a thank you. I wanted so much to pet her but decided not to. When she ate her fill she waddled away. We never saw her again. I guess she gave birth and we had other things to do other than the park. Shortly after Mike passed away I went into a store to distract me and loving animal figures yup I got a raccoon! And yes I named it Roberta. I look at it sometimes and I think of that day with my beloved Michael. I see this and it triggered Roberta's memory. To this day can't figure out why Roberta attacked that other raccoon to protect me since she was wild. I was willing to feed him until his running at me he wanted to take a chunk out of me he wasn't interested in hot dogs or buns. I was scared. Roberta prevented an attack. Whether she cared about me or didn't want the competition I don't know. And she was very pregnant. It was amazing having a wild animal crawl on my lap for food bits like we were buddies. I expected fear, hesitation, put the food down and then I'll grab it. Never expected a wild raccoon to crawl on my lap. I have a soft spot for raccoons now.

I'm so glad you weren't bit. Would have been a Rabies Series for you which is most unpleasant but then only way to save a human. Around 65-85% of the raccoon population carries Rabies. I'm so sorry about the loss of your Love. What a lovely memory. It's those good memories that keep us humans going. 💜

We use to have a family that would show up for dinner every evening. They would sit out of the patio and eat with us. Once everyone was done eating, the entire family would walk back out to the woods and we wouldn't see them till the next days dinner time. This went on with the expanded family for 4-5 years.

@@willg54 we did. I grew up on Sanibel Island, FL and we ened up moving a few miles away. I'm sure they returned to the home after we left. Our next door neighbor was a commercial fisherman so he started putting out fish parts in the woods beside his house and they would show up and feed on that. It's been years and I don't know how long this continued to happen. I do know this went on for years and there where generations of the same family that would show up over that time. I guess we should have considered ourselves lucky no one ever bitten, but there was never a sign of aggression from any of them.

My guy introduced me to raccoons, his family has raised many of them. We got an orphaned one and we nursed her with a bottle until she was able to eat kibble. She was amazing and this last spring we released her into the wild. It's amazing how just a little over a year of taking care of an animal can teach you so much and I gained the most respect for her and her species. I know we helped her but she helped me so much more. She taught me how much I could love something that does get such a bad reputation. I like to imagine her life now and the family she might have. She will always be so special to me.

I absolutely love this video. I have a racoon, bandit (I named him), who started coming to my house at the beginning of summer. He was not scared of me at all. He immediately got on the chair with me like we were already friends. I started feeding him by hand, uncrustables, which he loves. Then 4 babies started coming with him. We feed them now. We also play with them with cat toys. They are adorable. Then a bigger raccoon started coming. She looked like she was pregnant. She was really shy at first, almost like she was scared. I would just talk to her and she slowly started to come to me. I am assuming they are a family. That's what I like to believe. I just love them. I make sure they have food and water every night. I love seeing other people being kind to them. They are such sweet animals who get a bad rep for doing what they have to do to survive. They aren't mean or bad. They need to eat. We keep taking more and more of their space and then get mad when they dig in the trash and live in parts of our homes and property. What else are they suppose to do ? All of us should be kinder to these animals. It doesn't hurt to put food out for them. Even cat food. Any thing really. Scraps from dinner. They are not picky. Well mine might be now. They all love uncrustables. Lol.

This reminds me of when I grew up. When I was a child my father built 3 different ponds with koi fish in our backyard and I had a habit of collecting stray cats...at one point we had 5 and then a family of racoons moved into the very large hedges that bordered the yard. We had before dark feedings for the cats and after dark for the racoons. Everyone got along very well, cats, racoons, fish and even a possum. I loved those animals and those are some of the best memories I have.

Dry dog food, raccoon's love dry dog food, we had this couple that lived across the street from us, she had a bad leg, he would come out first and make sure it was clear, it was really cute... so I'd leave a dish of dog food and water under the ramp for my dog, they could eat all nice safe and sound, the food was kept dry so they could eat when they pleased.

This lady is a real sweet heart, feeding the momma raccoon and her babies. I’m glad to see from the comments that there are more people like her. I was feeding a young raccoon at work, it was limping and was very thin. I would bring food everyday, I’d sneak off during my morning break everyday to feed it. It’s so sweet and precious 🥰 This happens to me each spring too!! The moms bring their babies to my house for food! Sometimes there’s only one or two babies… Sometimes there’s more 🦝🦝 By fall, the babies are usually grown enough to be on their own and begin looking for new territory. Each season, nature always evens herself out like magic 🌳

Raccoons are incredibly intelligent animals. When humanity dies out, they will very likely become the dominant intelligent species on the planet. Their hands are perfect for manipulating objects.

And even though they have been villainized by many humans, they still don't judge or hold grudges. The bipedal primate should take some lessons from them. Raccoons are wonderful mammals that actually take care of their young. 🤗

Yes, when we were kids and went camping, the racoons unlocked our ice chest and ate all our food. I still remember all the clear cheese slice wrappers all over our camp. They had neatly unwrapped each cheese slice instead of tearing into them.
