@paulpijnenburg54495 жыл бұрын
Rachael Doran I’m not to sure about them being everythings best friend lol. But the maternal/ caring for infants instinct of canines is indeed amazing. If a pack of lions find a cub they don’t know, they’ll kill it. If a pack of wolfs or african wild dogs find a strange pup they’ll most likely raise it like their own. When an endangered zoo animal gets rejected by its mother they usually use a dog as a foster mom. I think this comes from the alfa pair system most canines have. All females raise the alfa females pups together. this is also the reason dogs have false pregnancies, all go in heat and produce milk at the same time, regardless of being pregnant or not. Dogs just like to raise puppies, doesn’t matter if its their own or even their own species!

Good for you! Where I live they kill everything - including the baby raccoons if they are orphaned & worse yet you are not allowed to adopt them to rehabilitate! Now they are saying they carry a form of distemper - if true, so how does that apply to ALL of them & warrant killing healthy ones? It"s absolutely ridiculous & a huge moneymaker for animal control. The only thing they will do is release one on another part of your property if it"s caused problems. What is one person's nuisance is another ones' joy.

Probably not a good idea...you need to find them some other food cat food is made for cats not for raccoons. It don't have all the nutritions. It needs

Huh? Raccoons eat garbage you know that right??I doubt a lil cat food is going to hurt them
@derrinpickett99485 жыл бұрын
My neighbor lady puts out dry cat food on her porch nightly. Its mostly cats that I see eating it but occasionally raccoons or a possum will be spotted chowing down. This one raccoon cups the cat food in its claws and dips it into the water bowl before eating it. I can only assume its the cheap Frugal Hoosier brand cat food.

They are though in the wild raccoons are fearless animals they'll take on anything if they feel they have to without a second thought. They're kind if like a honey badger in regards to temper. they'll kill a dog or cat without much hesitation and will still come running to attack you even if you shoot them twice with a shotgun, trust me I speak from experience they are tough as nails. for the record this isnt the doing of rabies they're just metal af naturally.

Only time I've seen an insane/vicious raccoon is when my dog cornered one in the back yard, he snapped n freaked out, other then that they usually try to get away without trouble
@Nirrrina4 жыл бұрын
Not surprising. They're incredibly wild & vicious when cornered. Plus mom's with young babes are even worse if you come near their babies. But that's understandable then. I still wouldn't mess with a wild one up close. But if you stay back you're generally fine.
@brigidtheirish4 жыл бұрын
@@Nirrrina Honestly, *most* mammal moms go homicidal if you're near their babies. Avian and a few reptilian moms, too.
