Wild Swing Review, ART Engineering Flat Ride | Amusement Industry's Next Big Ride?

I got to experience Wild Gautsche and Pendula in June 2024 and absolutely loved them both. Not intense, but a fun ride sensation. Rode Pendula off balance and it made no difference. SUperb motion / sensation and I can't wait to see a ton more of these pop up around parks.

These are awesome. I rode the one at Fantasiana in Austria (also goes forwards and backwards). I was surprised not only by the comfort, but by the surprise airtime it can give when the main arms are rotating downwards. Family friendly, but also quite thrilling if you're lucky. I really hope they are popping up more. It's finally something new and really exciting to ride as well, unlike many other flatrides in parks.

The Restraints are the same profile as those first used on BomBora at Lagoon in 2011 and their other family coasters since then, including Primordial.

The one I tested at Tripsdrill really was an awesome experience. Loved the bounces that were surprisingly smooth (not nearly as jerky as the swinging on other top spins can get) and the gentle tummy-tickle on some of the downswings, especially when going in reverse. As an all-coaster-doer, it was still super fun! And for kids i can imagine it being an awesome thrilling experience.

Hi, I rode Pendula in Fantasiana, Austria, it was very pleasant, and the soundtrack was beautiful. The goal was to ride this little monster called wild train (I was happy to be able to enjoy this airtime beast before it was defunct😢), but Pendula was a very pleasant surprise, particularly during Halloween night, with some fog adding to the magic of the moment. Quite different from top spin, more family orientated, but it features cool sensations.

I second that. It's totally underrated how the setting, theming, the views of the pond and the Alps and especially the beautiful, beautiful soundtrack turn a solid, but basic, family ride into a perfect experience. Well done, Fantasiana

@arianberndt1889 You described it perfectly .This little park knows how to create an ambience. It was magical. Loved Fridolin by Art Engineering too, it's simply poetic and graceful with another Imascore masterpiece of a soundtrack. Very solid little park that takes a very interesting direction with its new roller coaster, Helios. I'm a bit sad about Wild train, but happy, the park made an interesting choice with a Mack striker, I would definitely come back to ride it. The effort put in the theming in this park is remarkable.

@@CanobieCoaster Thank you, I must say it was kind of an emotional moment for my son and I to ride this little legend for the first time and kiss it goodbye on the same day... They made something really cool as a tribute to wild train, they printed special T-shirts with "goodbye wild train" on it, and sold some wheels. My son got the two of them, as the enthusiast that he is, there was no way he wouldn't buy them! Wild train was an airtime machine, we rode it 10 times, and we had bruises on our thighs for 10 days😁. No regrets though! 😊

Its a smaller version of the Mondial Super Nova. This was a large model where bouth arms could counter rotate. On the fair in europa the showman would put the gondela horizontal. In the parks it would function just like the model of art enginering

The ride actually checks how much it's loaded (on the first mild swing, the system checks on how far the gondola swings). This means that when the load is higher, the motor is activated more, when the gondola is sparsely occupied or empty, it is activated less, so you get a "better ride" if you just barely make it into the next weight profile on the system xD The manufacturer dosn't give any specification for loading, so you should also get an unbalanced ride if you want. I think it's a really interesting ride model and I love Art Engeneering. ❤

I would assume that this can be scaled up for more throughput at large theme parks, but hopefully scaled up it will still have the same action. I suppose the speed may have to increase proportionately with the size. Looks like fun!

How’s this compare in regards to positive Gs with a smaller Happy Swing? Because those kiddie rides can really mess with my head, so I’m skeptical if I’ll be able to enjoy this. Looks like an incredible family ride though!

The forces are mostly pretty mild. In the downswings when the gondola and the arms are in sync you can have a pop of good positive force or even airtime, but nothing to wild. I don't have any data, so the following is only a rough estimate. Maybe up to 3 g's? But only for a very short moment. So compared to happy swing, I would say it has a biiit less force.

Having ridden the installations at Fantasiana and Futuroscope I must say this is really fun and much more exciting than it may appear off-ride! Not really thrilling, but the motion is really surprising at every turn. What I'm wondering: since the entire movement is just controlled by cleverly applying different levels of torque by just 2 motors - could you programme a more intense cycle? Would it be possible to flip the gondola? What are the physical limits of this machine?

I guess my question is whether or not the swinging feels like a buzz kill. Obviously, we understand that it is a family ride and doesn't invert. But I'm reminded of when you get a weak ride on an S&S 4D Free Spin and you feel like you're building the momentum to flip bit never quite get there. Part of it is unsatisfied expectations but also it just feels boring to build a bit of swining momentum and then have it die off just as quick. From off ride it looks like that's what this whole experience is. But again, I haven't ridden it. Did it feel like that at all to you?

Not to me, at least. Depending on where the swing was, you'd get a tiny floater pop or a fun bouncing sensation. Honestly, the most boring parts were where the swing lined up with the rotation (especially at the bottom). I went in expecting something similar to you (rocking purgatory from something like spinsanity at sfot or freespin duds like you mentioned), but was pleasantly surprised that it was actually fun!

A capacity of 500 pph is not really high, it is not enough for big theme parks. It will be fine for small to midsize theme parks in best case. They will need bigger ones. The Huss Top Spins have a capacity of around 900 pph but are also much bigger. Perhaps this year in Tripsdrill.

@@CanobieCoaster It is good for small parks. But the bigger chain parks will need something different or an overwhelming number of smaller rides and attractions. But how many as the Europa park are there globally, with far more than 100 attractions? I think just one. And most of them are boat rides, train rides, shows and numerous kid rides/drives, coasters, dark rides e.g.. Only few classic flat rides (and these with low capacities). Every mid size park/chain park will already need more. This is the reason, that there are so many HUSS rides...rides. They have these big flat rides with capacities of around 1000 up to 1700 or even more pph. A Condor 2g has a capacity of 1680 pph. Topple Tower 1000 pph. Shot drop towers around 1000 or bigger version, 1500 pph. Or the well famous pirate ships, these are capacity wonders with 1500 or 1800 pph (depending on the versions). Top Spins 1200 pph. The real numbers are regular a little bit lower, also depending, how long the program/ride is. Talocan at Phatasialand as perhaps one of the most famous flat rides has around 900 (it is a Huss suspended Top Spin, it has a prolonged ride time). We need a bigger version of the Gauche for mid size parks with a capacity of around 800 or more pph? But I am not so sure, this will work. I am not sure, it can be easily upskaled.

Just looks like a weaker version of the Top Spin, which is an awesome flat ride. I was intimidated by top spin at first, but once I rode one, I absolutely loved it to my surprise. US parks should just install more top spins! What's with all these lame family coasters and flat rides being built?!
