In this episode, my plans of camping are interjected by some bad winter weather. My friend Lee and I go to the boundary waters to catch some trout. A stove low on fuel, and winter wind storms while fishing, what could go wrong? I catch a few wild trout and do a catch and cook on the ice.

Hey Mav, I’m not sure if you read all your comments but hope this one finds its way to you. I came across your videos last fall when I was trying to figure out how I could camp out of my car and travel around the way you do. I’m 20 years old living up in Canada working in marketing for a conservation education charity and this spring will be graduating from university so thanks to the inspiration I’ve gotten from your channel, I purchased a 2006 Mercedes sprinter today that I will be converting so I can get on the road once I’m finished school. I’m hoping to have it functional in May, and if you’re doing any trips in the PNW or coming up into Western Canada let me know, I’m in Southern Alberta but looking to travel around BC and the PNW this summer. Would be awesome to connect with another younger guy with a similar mindset.

Coleman stoves are finicky for sure. Don't understand why you were not using a wind screen in that wind, but heh to each their own. Wind screen helps keep the heat under the pan and also helps keep the fuel liquid to gas generator hot so the liquid fuel can be vaporized before hitting the burner. All those yellow flames come from too rich fuel mixture and that is caused by a generator which is not working properly. So I would recommend a wind screen in the future to help keep the wind off the stove If that stove is more than a few years old and you have been using anything other than clean Coleman fuel the coils in the generator might be clogged with varnish from the additives they put in modern automobile fuel. I burn straight gas from the station, but my stove doesn't use a liquid to vapor generator to get clogged. It is one of the main reasons why I ditched the Coleman stoves and took up with burner plate designs. They make a hell of a lot of noise, but they just work.

Fish sushi would solve the cooking problem. Why didn't you set up your shelter before cooking? It looks like a ton of gear is needed for ice fishing. Missing was a heater, recliner, ice chest of beer, and lots of fish.

If you are going to release the trout wet your hands before you touch them. By touching the fish out of water, and with a dry hand-you are removing the protective slime from the surface of the fish. This slime is a barrier on the exterior of the fish to keep bacteria and fungus out.
