Back in the day when even commercials had entertainment value. I still like the old chuck wagon ones too. I remember listening to Porter, and Dolly, and ole Speck Rodes, then Porter would say it's time to pay the bills, then the commercial would come on. Then the dog chased the wagon into the cabinet. Memories.

Come Christmas time we also saw many of the US western themed toys on British TV. I remember the Chuck Conner advert for the rifle. And we all had a six gun and holster. I remember watching one commercial for Marathon candy bar. It was a candy bar that almost lived up to its name. I remember watching it and thinking about the character of Marathon John, who claimed he could eat anything fast, including a chocolate and caramel bar that was not made for fast eating. Hubba Bubba bubblegum. My favorite flavor was mint. There was a Pepsi Light commercial with the East Coast Stuntmen Association in a western saloon setting. 🎶We hate getting paid less than the stars. We don’t even like the way we walk into bars (Spoken)”And we really hate retakes.” Then there was the Marlboro Man cigarette commercials. Great memories.

Y'know what would be cool? 5 second clips of scenes from movies / TV shows / commercials shot at Old Tucson attached to clips of what those sets look like today, with the camera at the same position and viewing angle. Granted, it can be difficult because some of those sets were destroyed (either by fire in the 1990s or otherwise) but the effect would still be pretty resonant with Old Westians.

Oh Hey! I grip-rigged that Bulls'Eye BBQ Sauce commercial [0:39]. Rigging Gaffer was a Brit. A Royal Navy Falklands War vereran, he survived an Exocet missile strike to his ship. He was in hospital for a year, and that ended his career in the ''Andrew.'' He had been a Diver. So he went into Film. I remember digging out a queen bed-sized hole, 12 - 18'' deep to bury a mattress so one of the Bad Guy Bottles could fall off the roof . Other Bad Guy Bottles had a cable attached to their backs, and compressed air rams were set around sheaves to suck them back into the saloon, or down the block. Not sure if there was a guy inside when the ram went off. My job was just to set it up. Fun shoot. Paid well.
