Wilderness Canoe Adventure - Part 4. Descending the River Røa in Norway. White Water Rapids.

In this video, part 4 in the series, Andy (Kent Survival) and I cross over the border into Norway and begin our descent of the River Røa.
We head off from our last camp spot in Sweden and paddle the last two kilometres to the start of the river in the Fermundsmarka National Reserve. Some rapids we run, others we line the canoes down and some we take the safest option and portage the canoes and gear down - its a remote area, so safety is paramount.
Between the river sections and flowing water are calm open lakes, a nice gentle interred before the next excitement and a time to enjoy our surroundings.
As evening draws, we look for a good place to set up camp and we find a lovely spot next to a lake where we enjoy the evening with a fire and some well earned dinner.
Norway feels very different to the Swedish side of the border - more wild, more rugged and the excitant of the river has changed the tempo of the trip.
I hope you enjoy the video,
Thanks for watching.

Great video, but make sure to not cut or brake off anything on the ground, just use fallen branches etc. Rules on the webpage for the nationalpark states: "The trees in the national park are protected against damage and felling. This applies to both living and dead trees, standing or lying on the ground. The old silver-grey pines are Femundsmarka's stave churches and dead trees are home to rare insects, fungi and lichen. It is only permitted to use small twigs for bonfires, primarily twigs from the ground."

Cutting of trees standing or fallen is completely prohibited in the national park. Only branches that has fallen down on its own is legal to use as firewood. It's a shame people dont get this. We are trying to preserve the park for generations to come.

Thank you Simon and Andy. I know filming your trip makes it so much more 'longwinded' for you guys, and yeah I get why you do it, but anyway I for one seriously appreciate that you do! Retired back in the UK now, but enjoyed 20years of the British Colombian Bush and West Coast I know only too well why Scandinavia is so appealing. Here's to many more trips with you folks!

Simon, a bloke on the River Røa. Your morning sunrise & subsequent images were out standing! The texture of the moss & the old fallen tree near your hammock... what can I say, other than so impressive. Thank you again for sharing your excursions with us. EDIT: I always appreciate the music you choose for your episodes. Soothing & comforting.

Video - very well done! Trip planning - A little less so. I realize that heavy protein meals are Andy’s trademark, but it looked like your food/beer kit was way too heavy! And while crocs are comfy I really think you were mislead about the portages - hiking boots would have been much better given how tortuous they were, And Andy needed more time in a canoe given the intensive effort this trip required. You probably have other lessons to share - will you do a post-mortem?

What a great trip and such a beautiful landscape. I'm very jealous. You look in your element out there, enjoying every second. Sadly, and having watched Andy's videos, he looks to be frequently crying out 'I'm not a canoeist' get me out of here!' If you decide to do another trip like this, please persuade Andy to take some proper lesson in paddling so that he can enjoy it more. Al

Hello there Simon! It dawned on me as I was watching this episode (specifically @ 23:23 in this video) why I was never able to catch fish in my early days. My older brother Leonard, who taught me how to fish, would share that fish are highly sensitive creatures. They are extremely keen to any scent outside its environment- that includes insect repellant! Thanks for all your vlogs my good man, we really enjoy them!
