Nice trip! I've hiked all the trails in the area many times over the years but have never canoed through. It was nice to see a totally different perspective. Great video!

Thanks for the comment! It is a beautiful area. Disappointed we ran out of time and didn't get to explore the Five Ponds Area. We will be back.
@bushwhackingfool37064 жыл бұрын
@@wildernessoutreach2 The Five Ponds is a beautiful area. When you go down there, think about going further south and check out Wolf Pond and Sand Lake too. Sand Lake has a beautiful sandy beach and Wolf Pond lean-to area gets few visitors. A beautiful place!

I've been to Low's Lake numerous times, hiked up Grass Pond Mountain once from the backside near the Grass Pond campsites...and I've been in on the Oswegatchie a bunch of times from Wanakena, but never did this particular trip because I've got a royalex canoe and can't seem to go minimal enough...I imagine that portage and the few hundred beaver dams would be a nightmare...the way I go...not prepared to lug all of that!

Nice video. My family camped at site #11 shortly before you. I found that cast iron pan all rusted up in the bushes so I seasoned it on our fire and hung it from the table for future use so I was glad to see you used if for your trout.

We love cooking with cast iron. Too heavy to lug on this trip. That was a great find! Thanks!

Nice trip. I was on my first kayak camping trip in the Adirondacks 2 years ago. It was amazing. I have done one on the Allegheny River and hope to hit Algonquin this summer.

Thank you for a fun video. I just ran across it. Skin on frame is often overlooked as a canoe build and yours appear to be doing well. Question #1: was your trip the first part of October? The lack of people surprised me and that is why I ask. Question#2: have you noticed any changes in the keel line of your canoes ( change in shape of the bottom from bow to stern)? Again thank you for you video.
@wildernessoutreach23 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yes, the trip was in early October. Went below freezing one night. Very difficult to get this far up the river. Not many people venture past the falls anytime of year. The canoes have stayed true. We babied them the first few trips. But as you can see... we now go straight over beaver dams. They can take a lot of abuse and are relatively easy to repair.

Amazing video! Was hoping to take that route in a couple weeks for a 6 day, but don't know if ice will be out yet... what do u think? Any tips or alternatives would be appreciated!

Thanks for the comment! It was an awesome trip and would definitely recommend it. The climb up Grass Pond Mountain was worth the trip. The overlook at the upper dam is great too. If we had more time we would spend a day at the Falls. There are several trails that go off from there. We wanted to spend a day or two at the Five Ponds Area but ran out of time. The fishing is awesome above the falls. We heard from a guide that the campsite at Big Deer Pond was not so nice so we did not check it out. Raquette River Outfitter shuttled our vehicle. They are great and we use them often. Cool store too. Don't know about the ice. I am sitting in Ohio...

Awesome! We plan on canoeing the Oswegatchie first week of August. Would you mind sharing what your itinerary was? How many days total?
@wildernessoutreach26 жыл бұрын
5 days, 4 nights. Day one didn't start until about 6:00 pm. and the last day we were off the river by noon. Camped on Low's Lake the first night. Camped on the Oswegatchie at the end of the carry on night two. Night three was above High Falls. The fourth night was at Buck Brook. Well worth the trip. Hope to get back there someday and explore some of the trails. Use the Adirondack Paddler's Map by Dave Cilley. It can't be beat as far as detail and accuracy.

Thanks for another great canoe trip. You guys inspired me to buid a 16 foot sof canoe last year and have just entered a permit for Lewis lake to Shoshone in YP. Glad to see how well your boats handled 64 dams, rocks, and rapids. How much do your packs weigh on this trip?
@wildernessoutreach26 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comments. Our packs weighed in at about 70 lbs to start. We tend to carry a little too much beer... The packs are Granite Gear Superior One. They can hold a ton and are super adjustable.

Great video! This is on my to do this either this year or next. Love the skin on frame canoes, especially the tan/brown color combination. How big are they and what do they weigh?
